Abstract

"APARELHO DE DIREçãO PARA GIRAR AS RODAS DIRIGìVEIS DE UM VEìCULO". Um aparelho de direção (10) para girar as rodas dirigíveis de um veículo em resposta à rotação de um volante de direção do veiculo (12) compreende um primeiro conjunto (16), um segundo conjunto (26), e um mecanismo (108). O primeiro conjunto (16) é operativamente acoplado com o volante de direção (12) e inclui componentes (18 e 22) para monitorar o torque aplicado e a rotação angular do volante de direção. O segundo conjunto (26) inclui um mecanismo de direção (34) e componentes (28 e 30) para receber o primeiro sinal e acionar o mecanismo de direção (34) em resposta ao primeiro sinal. O mecanismo (108) quando em uma primeira modalidade de operação proporciona uma conexão mecânica entre o volante de direção (12) e o mecanismo de direção (34). Quando o mecanismo (108) está na segunda modalidade de operação, o volante de direção (12) e o mecanismo de direção (34) carecem de uma conexão mecânica.
