Abstract
優れた安全性と電池特性を有する非水電解質二次電池を提供する。本開示の一態様である非水電解質二次電池は、正極と、負極と、正極及び負極を相互に隔離するセパレータと、非水電解質とを備え、正極は、正極集電体と、正極集電体の表面に形成された第1正極合剤層と、第1正極合剤層の表面に形成された第2正極合剤層とを有し、第1正極合剤層は、第1正極活物質を含み、第2正極合剤層は、第2正極活物質を含み、第2正極活物質におけるNiの含有率は、第1正極活物質におけるNiの含有率よりも低い。
Description
本開示は、非水電解質二次電池に関する。
近年、Niを含有するリチウム含有複合酸化物が、高エネルギー密度の正極活物質として注目されている。Niの含有率が高いリチウム含有複合酸化物を使用した場合、電池容量は高くなるが、異常時に電池温度が高くなることがある。特許文献1には、正極集電体とNiの含有率が70%以下のリチウム含有複合酸化物を含有する第1層との間に、Niの含有率が50%以下のリチウム含有複合酸化物を含有する第2層が形成された正極を用いることで、釘刺し時に電池の温度上昇を抑制する技術が開示されている。
ところで、Niの含有率が高いリチウム含有複合酸化物は、高温環境下での自己発熱量が大きくなる傾向があり、熱安定性の向上が課題である。また、Niの含有率が高いリチウム含有複合酸化物は、充電時に引き抜かれるLiの量が多く、層状の結晶構造が壊れやすい傾向がある。そのため、Niの含有率が高いリチウム含有複合酸化物を用いた場合、充放電の繰り返しによって、電池容量が低下しやすい。この傾向は高温環境下で特に顕著である。特許文献1に開示された技術は、熱安定性や高温環境下でのサイクル特性の低下ついては検討しておらず、未だ改善の余地がある。
本開示の目的は、優れた安全性と電池特性を有する非水電解質二次電池を提供することにある。
本開示の一態様である非水電解質二次電池は、正極と、負極と、正極及び負極を相互に隔離するセパレータと、非水電解質とを備え、正極は、正極集電体と、正極集電体の表面に形成された第1正極合剤層と、第1正極合剤層の表面に形成された第2正極合剤層とを有し、第1正極合剤層は、一般式LiaNibM1cM2dOe(式中、0.9≦a≦1.2、0.90≦b≦0.95、0≦c≦0.10、0≦d≦0.05、1.9≦e≦2.1、b+c+d=1、M1は、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素、M2は、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素)で表される第1正極活物質を含み、第2正極合剤層は、一般式LifNigM3hM4iOj(式中、0.9≦f≦1.2、0.80≦g≦0.90、0≦h≦0.20、0≦i≦0.05、1.9≦j≦2.1、g+h+i=1、M3は、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素、M4は、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素)で表される第2正極活物質を含み、g及びbは、g<bを満たすことを特徴とする。
本開示に係る非水電解質二次電池によれば、安全性と電池特性を向上させることができる。
以下では、図面を参照しながら、本開示に係る非水電解質二次電池の実施形態の一例について詳細に説明する。以下では、巻回型の電極体が円筒形の外装体に収容された円筒形電池を例示するが、外装体は円筒形に限定されず、例えば、角形、コイン形等であってもよく、金属層及び樹脂層を含むラミネートシートで構成されたパウチ型であってもよい。また、電極体は複数の正極と複数の負極がセパレータを介して交互に積層された積層型の電極体であってもよい。また、本明細書において、「数値(A)~数値(B)」との記載は、数値(A)以上、数値(B)以下であることを意味する。
図1は、実施形態の一例である円筒形の二次電池10の軸方向断面図である。図1に示す二次電池10は、電極体14及び非水電解質(図示せず)が外装体15に収容されている。電極体14は、正極11及び負極12がセパレータ13を介して巻回されてなる巻回型の構造を有する。なお、以下では、説明の便宜上、封口体16側を「上」、外装体15の底部側を「下」として説明する。
外装体15の上部の開口端部が封口体16で塞がれることで、二次電池10の内部は、密閉される。電極体14の上下には、絶縁板17,18がそれぞれ設けられる。正極リード19は絶縁板17の貫通孔を通って上方に延び、封口体16の底板であるフィルタ22の下面に溶接される。二次電池10では、フィルタ22と電気的に接続された封口体16の天板であるキャップ26が正極端子となる。他方、負極リード20は絶縁板18の外側を通って、外装体15の底部側に延び、外装体15の底部内面に溶接される。二次電池10では、外装体15が負極端子となる。
外装体15は、例えば有底の円筒形状の金属製外装缶である。外装体15と封口体16の間にはガスケット27が設けられ、二次電池10の内部の密閉性が確保されている。外装体15は、例えば側面部を外側からプレスして形成された溝入部21を有する。溝入部21は、外装体15の周方向に沿って環状に形成されることが好ましく、その上面でガスケット27を介して封口体16を支持する。
封口体16は、電極体14側から順に積層された、フィルタ22、下弁体23、絶縁部材24、上弁体25、及びキャップ26を有する。封口体16を構成する各部材は、例えば円板形状又はリング形状を有し、絶縁部材24を除く各部材は互いに電気的に接続されている。下弁体23と上弁体25とは各々の中央部で互いに接続され、各々の周縁部の間には絶縁部材24が介在している。異常発熱で電池の内圧が上昇すると、例えば、下弁体23が破断し、これにより上弁体25がキャップ26側に膨れて下弁体23から離れることにより両者の電気的接続が遮断される。さらに内圧が上昇すると、上弁体25が破断し、キャップ26の開口部26aからガスが排出される。
以下、二次電池10を構成する正極11、負極12、セパレータ13、及び非水電解質について、特に正極11について詳説する。
[正極]
図2を参照しつつ正極11の構成について説明する。図2は、実施形態の一例である正極11の断面図である。正極11は、正極集電体30と、正極集電体30の表面に形成された第1正極合剤層32と、第1正極合剤層32の表面に形成された第2正極合剤層34とを有する。なお、第1正極合剤層32及び第2正極合剤層34をまとめて正極合剤層36という場合がある。
図2を参照しつつ正極11の構成について説明する。図2は、実施形態の一例である正極11の断面図である。正極11は、正極集電体30と、正極集電体30の表面に形成された第1正極合剤層32と、第1正極合剤層32の表面に形成された第2正極合剤層34とを有する。なお、第1正極合剤層32及び第2正極合剤層34をまとめて正極合剤層36という場合がある。
正極集電体30には、アルミニウムなどの正極の電位範囲で安定な金属の箔、当該金属を表層に配置したフィルム等を用いることができる。正極集電体30の厚みは、例えば、10μm~30μmである。
正極合剤層36は、正極集電体30の両面に形成されることが好ましい。正極合剤層36の厚みは、正極集電体30の片側で、好ましくは50μm~200μmであり、より好ましくは70μm~150μmである。正極合剤層36は、例えば、正極活物質、導電剤、及び結着剤を含む。
正極合剤層36に含まれる導電剤としては、例えば、カーボンブラック(CB)、アセチレンブラック(AB)、ケッチェンブラック、カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)、グラフェン、黒鉛等のカーボン系粒子などが挙げられる。これらは、単独で用いてもよく、2種類以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。
正極合剤層36に含まれる結着剤としては、例えば、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)、ポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)等のフッ素系樹脂、ポリアクリロニトリル(PAN)、ポリイミド系樹脂、アクリル系樹脂、ポリオレフィン系樹脂などが挙げられる。これらは、1種類を単独で用いてもよく、2種類以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。
正極合剤層36に含まれる正極活物質は、第1正極合剤層32と第2正極合剤層34とでは相互に異なる。即ち、第1正極合剤層32は、第1正極活物質を含み、第2正極合剤層34は、第2正極活物質を含む。なお、本開示の目的を損なわない範囲で、第1正極合剤層32は、第1正極活物質以外の正極活物質を含んでもよく、第2正極合剤層34は、第2正極活物質以外の正極活物質を含んでもよい。
第1正極活物質は、一般式LiaNibM1cM2dOe(式中、0.9≦a≦1.2、0.90≦b≦0.95、0≦c≦0.10、0≦d≦0.05、1.9≦e≦2.1、b+c+d=1、M1は、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素、M2は、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素)で表される。
第2正極活物質は、一般式LifNigM3hM4iOj(式中、0.9≦f≦1.2、0.80≦g≦0.90、0≦h≦0.20、0≦i≦0.05、1.9≦j≦2.1、g+h+i=1、M3は、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素、M4は、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素)で表される。
第1正極活物質1モル当たりのLiのモル数を示すa、及び第2正極活物質1モル当たりのLiのモル数を示すfは、いずれも0.9~1.2であり、好ましくは0.95~1.05であり、より好ましくは1である。aが0.9未満の場合、aが上記範囲を満たす場合と比較して、電池容量が低下する場合がある。aが1.2以上の場合、aが上記範囲を満たす場合と比較して、充放電サイクル特性が低下する場合がある。
第1正極活物質中のLiを除く金属元素の総モル数に対するNiの割合(以下、Ni含有率という場合があり、第2正極活物質においても同じ)を示すbは、0.90~0.95であり、第2正極活物質中のLiを除く金属元素の総モル数に対するNiの割合を示すgは、0.80~0.90であり、g及びbはg<bを満たす。これにより、優れた安全性と電池特性を有する二次電池10を得ることができる。正極活物質は、Ni含有率が高くなると、自己発熱量が増加する傾向があるので、Ni含有率の高い正極活物質を含む電池の温度は、上昇する場合がある。また、Ni含有率の高い正極活物質は、電解液と副反応を起こしやすいので、Ni含有率の高い正極活物質を含む電池は、充放電の繰り返しによって電池容量が低下しやすい。正極合剤層を積層構造とし、電解液と接する表面側に、第1正極活物質よりもNi含有率の低い第2正極活物質を配置することで、安全性とサイクル特性を向上させることが可能となる。また、gを0.80以上とすることで、高容量の電池を得ることができる。
第1正極活物質中のLiを除く金属元素の総モル数に対するM1の割合を示すcは、0~0.10であり、好ましくは0.03~0.10であり、より好ましくは0.05~0.10である。第2正極活物質中のLiを除く金属元素の総モル数に対するM3の割合を示すhは、0~0.20であり、好ましくは0.05~0.20であり、より好ましくは0.10~0.20である。M1及びM3は、各々、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素である。Coは、電子伝導性が高いので、抵抗を小さくすることができる。Al及びMnは、正極活物質の結晶構造を安定化させることができる。M1及びM3は、相互に異なる元素であってもよいが、同じ元素であることが好ましい。M1及びM3は、いずれも、Co及びAlを含んでもよい。
第1正極活物質中のLiを除く金属元素の総モル数に対するM2の割合を示すd、及び第2正極活物質中のLiを除く金属元素の総モル数に対するM4の割合を示すiは、いずれも0~0.05であり、好ましくは0~0.03であり、より好ましくは0である。M2及びM4は、各々、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素である。M2及びM4は、相互に異なる元素であってもよく、同じ元素であってもよい。
第1正極合剤層32と第2正極合剤層34との厚みの比は、90:10~60:40であることが好ましい。これにより、電池の熱安定性及び高温環境下でのサイクル特性を向上させつつ、電池容量をより大きくすることができる。
第1正極合剤層32における第1正極活物質の含有率は、例えば、第1正極合剤層32の総質量に対して、90質量%~99質量%であり、好ましくは95質量%~99質量%である。
正極11の作製方法は、特に限定されないが、例えば、正極活物質、導電剤、及び結着剤を含む第1正極合剤スラリーと、正極活物質、導電剤、及び結着剤を含む第2正極合剤スラリーとを各々作製し、正極集電体30の両面に第1正極合剤スラリーを塗布、乾燥させ、その上に、第2正極合剤スラリーを塗布、乾燥させた後、圧延ローラにより塗膜を圧延することで、図2に示すような二層構造の正極合剤層を備える正極11を作製できる。また、第1正極合剤スラリーを塗布した後に、乾燥させずに、その上に第2正極合剤スラリーを塗布してから乾燥させてもよい。
[負極]
負極12は、負極集電体と、負極集電体の表面に形成された負極合剤層とを有する。負極集電体には、銅などの負極の電位範囲で安定な金属の箔、当該金属を表層に配置したフィルム等を用いることができる。負極集電体の厚みは、例えば、5μm~30μmである。
負極12は、負極集電体と、負極集電体の表面に形成された負極合剤層とを有する。負極集電体には、銅などの負極の電位範囲で安定な金属の箔、当該金属を表層に配置したフィルム等を用いることができる。負極集電体の厚みは、例えば、5μm~30μmである。
負極合剤層は、負極集電体の両面に形成されることが好ましい。負極合剤層の厚みは、例えば、負極集電体の片側で10μm~150μmである。負極合剤層は、例えば、負極活物質、及び結着剤を含む。負極は、例えば、負極集電体の両面に負極活物質、結着剤等を含む負極合剤スラリーを塗布し、塗膜を乾燥させた後、ローラ等を用いて塗膜を圧延することで作製できる。
負極合剤層に含まれる負極活物質としては、リチウムイオンを可逆的に吸蔵、放出できるものであれば特に限定されず、一般的には黒鉛等の炭素材料が用いられる。黒鉛は、鱗片状黒鉛、塊状黒鉛、土状黒鉛等の天然黒鉛、塊状人造黒鉛、黒鉛化メソフェーズカーボンマイクロビーズ等の人造黒鉛のいずれであってもよい。また、負極活物質として、Si、Sn等のLiと合金化する金属、Si、Sn等を含む金属化合物、リチウムチタン複合酸化物などを用いてもよい。例えば、SiOx(0.5≦x≦1.6)で表されるSi含有化合物、又はLi2ySiO(2+y)(0<y<2)で表されるリチウムシリケート相中にSiの微粒子が分散したSi含有化合物などが、黒鉛と併用されてもよい。
負極合剤層に含まれる結着剤としては、例えば、スチレンブタジエンゴム(SBR)、ニトリル-ブタジエンゴム(NBR)、カルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)又はその塩、ポリアクリル酸(PAA)又はその塩(PAA-Na、PAA-K等、また部分中和型の塩であってもよい)、ポリビニルアルコール(PVA)等が挙げられる。これらは、1種類を単独で用いてもよく、2種類以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。
[セパレータ]
セパレータ13は、正極11及び負極12を相互に隔離する。セパレータ13としては、例えば、イオン透過性及び絶縁性を有する多孔性シート等が用いられる。多孔性シートの具体例としては、微多孔膜、織布、不織布等が挙げられる。セパレータの材質としては、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のオレフィン系樹脂、セルロースなどが好適である。セパレータ13は、セルロース繊維層及びオレフィン系樹脂等の熱可塑性樹脂繊維層を有する積層体であってもよい。また、ポリエチレン層及びポリプロピレン層を含む多層セパレータであってもよく、セパレータ13の表面にアラミド系樹脂、セラミック等の材料が塗布されたものを用いてもよい。
セパレータ13は、正極11及び負極12を相互に隔離する。セパレータ13としては、例えば、イオン透過性及び絶縁性を有する多孔性シート等が用いられる。多孔性シートの具体例としては、微多孔膜、織布、不織布等が挙げられる。セパレータの材質としては、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のオレフィン系樹脂、セルロースなどが好適である。セパレータ13は、セルロース繊維層及びオレフィン系樹脂等の熱可塑性樹脂繊維層を有する積層体であってもよい。また、ポリエチレン層及びポリプロピレン層を含む多層セパレータであってもよく、セパレータ13の表面にアラミド系樹脂、セラミック等の材料が塗布されたものを用いてもよい。
[非水電解質]
非水電解質は、非水溶媒と、非水溶媒に溶解した電解質塩とを含んでもよい。非水溶媒としては、例えばエステル類、エーテル類、アセトニトリル等のニトリル類、ジメチルホルムアミド等のアミド類、及びこれらの2種以上の混合溶媒等を用いることができる。非水溶媒は、これら溶媒の水素の少なくとも一部をフッ素等のハロゲン原子で置換したハロゲン置換体を含有していてもよい。ハロゲン置換体としては、フルオロエチレンカーボネート(FEC)等のフッ素化環状炭酸エステル、フッ素化鎖状炭酸エステル、フルオロプロピオン酸メチル(FMP)等のフッ素化鎖状カルボン酸エステル等が挙げられる。
非水電解質は、非水溶媒と、非水溶媒に溶解した電解質塩とを含んでもよい。非水溶媒としては、例えばエステル類、エーテル類、アセトニトリル等のニトリル類、ジメチルホルムアミド等のアミド類、及びこれらの2種以上の混合溶媒等を用いることができる。非水溶媒は、これら溶媒の水素の少なくとも一部をフッ素等のハロゲン原子で置換したハロゲン置換体を含有していてもよい。ハロゲン置換体としては、フルオロエチレンカーボネート(FEC)等のフッ素化環状炭酸エステル、フッ素化鎖状炭酸エステル、フルオロプロピオン酸メチル(FMP)等のフッ素化鎖状カルボン酸エステル等が挙げられる。
上記エステル類の例としては、エチレンカーボネート(EC)、プロピレンカーボネート(PC)、ブチレンカーボネート等の環状炭酸エステル、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)、エチルメチルカーボネート(EMC)、ジエチルカーボネート(DEC)、メチルプロピルカーボネート、エチルプロピルカーボネート、メチルイソプロピルカーボネート等の鎖状炭酸エステル、γ-ブチロラクトン(GBL)、γ-バレロラクトン(GVL)等の環状カルボン酸エステル、酢酸メチル、酢酸エチル、酢酸プロピル、プロピオン酸メチル(MP)、プロピオン酸エチル等の鎖状カルボン酸エステル等が挙げられる。
上記エーテル類の例としては、1,3-ジオキソラン、4-メチル-1,3-ジオキソラン、テトラヒドロフラン、2-メチルテトラヒドロフラン、プロピレンオキシド、1,2-ブチレンオキシド、1,3-ジオキサン、1,4-ジオキサン、1,3,5-トリオキサン、フラン、2-メチルフラン、1,8-シネオール、クラウンエーテル等の環状エーテル、1,2-ジメトキシエタン、ジエチルエーテル、ジプロピルエーテル、ジイソプロピルエーテル、ジブチルエーテル、ジヘキシルエーテル、エチルビニルエーテル、ブチルビニルエーテル、メチルフェニルエーテル、エチルフェニルエーテル、ブチルフェニルエーテル、ペンチルフェニルエーテル、メトキシトルエン、ベンジルエチルエーテル、ジフェニルエーテル、ジベンジルエーテル、o-ジメトキシベンゼン、1,2-ジエトキシエタン、1,2-ジブトキシエタン、ジエチレングリコールジメチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコールジエチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコールジブチルエーテル、1,1-ジメトキシメタン、1,1-ジエトキシエタン、トリエチレングリコールジメチルエーテル、テトラエチレングリコールジメチルエーテル等の鎖状エーテル等が挙げられる。
電解質塩は、リチウム塩であることが好ましい。リチウム塩の例としては、LiBF4、LiClO4、LiPF6、LiAsF6、LiSbF6、LiAlCl4、LiSCN、LiCF3SO3、LiCF3CO2、Li(P(C2O4)F4)、LiPF6-x(CnF2n+1)x(1<x<6,nは1又は2)、LiB10Cl10、LiCl、LiBr、LiI、クロロボランリチウム、低級脂肪族カルボン酸リチウム、Li2B4O7、Li(B(C2O4)F2)等のホウ酸塩類、LiN(SO2CF3)2、LiN(C1F2l+1SO2)(CmF2m+1SO2){l,mは0以上の整数}等のイミド塩類等が挙げられる。リチウム塩は、これらを1種単独で用いてもよいし、複数種を混合して用いてもよい。これらのうち、イオン伝導性、電気化学的安定性等の観点から、LiPF6を用いることが好ましい。リチウム塩の濃度は、例えば、非水溶媒1L当り0.8モル~1.8モルとしてもよい。
以下、実施例により本開示をさらに説明するが、本開示はこれらの実施例に限定されるものではない。
<実施例>
[正極の作製]
第1正極活物質として、LiNi0.91Co0.06Al0.03O2で表されるリチウム遷移金属複合酸化物を用いた。第1正極活物質と、アセチレンブラック(AB)と、ポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)とを、100:1:0.9の質量比で混合し、N-メチルピロリドン(NMP)を加えながら混錬して、第1正極合剤スラリーを調製した。次に、第1正極合剤スラリーを厚み15μmのアルミニウム箔からなる正極集電体の両面にドクターブレード法により塗布し、塗膜を乾燥させて第1正極合剤層(未圧縮状態)を形成した。
[正極の作製]

第2正極活物質として、LiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2で表されるリチウム遷移金属複合酸化物を用いた。第2正極活物質と、アセチレンブラック(AB)と、ポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)とを、100:1:0.9の質量比で混合し、N-メチルピロリドン(NMP)を加えながら混錬して、第2正極合剤スラリーを調製した。次に、第2正極合剤スラリーを第1正極合剤層の両面にドクターブレード法により塗布し、塗膜を乾燥させることにより、第1正極合剤層の表面の全域に第2正極合剤層を積層した。ローラを用いて第1正極合剤層及び第2正極合剤層を圧延した後、所定の電極サイズに切断して、正極を作製した。圧延後において、第1正極合剤層の厚みと第2正極合剤層の厚みの比は、25:75であった。また、正極の一部に正極集電体が露出した露出部を設け、当該露出部にアルミニウム製の正極リードを取り付けた。
[負極の作製]
黒鉛が95質量部、SiOが5質量部となるように混合し、これを負極活物質とした。負極活物質:カルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC):スチレンブタジエンゴム(SBR)の質量比が、100:1:1となるようにこれらを水中で混練して、負極合剤スラリーを調製した。次に、銅箔からなる負極集電体の両面に、ドクターブレード法により、負極合剤スラリーを塗布、乾燥させた後、ローラにより塗膜を圧延し、所定の電極サイズに切断して、負極を作製した。また、負極の一部に負極集電体の表面が露出した露出部を設け、当該露出部にニッケル製の負極リードを取り付けた。

[非水電解質の調製]
エチレンカーボネート(EC)と、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)とを、1:3の体積比で混合した混合溶媒に対して、六フッ化リン酸リチウム(LiPF6)を1.5モル/Lの濃度で溶解させた。さらに、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)を上記混合溶媒に対して5質量%の濃度で溶解させて、非水電解質(電解液)を調製した。
エチレンカーボネート(EC)と、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)とを、1:3の体積比で混合した混合溶媒に対して、六フッ化リン酸リチウム(LiPF6)を1.5モル/Lの濃度で溶解させた。さらに、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)を上記混合溶媒に対して5質量%の濃度で溶解させて、非水電解質(電解液)を調製した。
[二次電池の作製]
厚み12μmのポリエチレンフィルムからなるセパレータを介して正極と負極を渦巻き状に巻回して巻回型電極体を作製した。この電極体を有底円筒形状の外装体内に収容し、負極リードを当該外装体の底部に溶接した。次に、正極リードを封口体に溶接し、上記非水電解質を注入した後、外装体の開口部を封口体で封止して、二次電池を得た。
厚み12μmのポリエチレンフィルムからなるセパレータを介して正極と負極を渦巻き状に巻回して巻回型電極体を作製した。この電極体を有底円筒形状の外装体内に収容し、負極リードを当該外装体の底部に溶接した。次に、正極リードを封口体に溶接し、上記非水電解質を注入した後、外装体の開口部を封口体で封止して、二次電池を得た。
[電池容量及びサイクル特性の評価]
環境温度45℃の下、上記の二次電池を、1380mAで4.2Vまで定電流充電した後、4.2Vで92mAまで定電圧充電した。その後、2300mAで、2.5Vまで定電流放電した。この充放電を1サイクルとして、200サイクル行い、下記式により容量維持率を求めた。また、1サイクル目の放電容量を電池容量とした。
容量維持率=(200サイクル目の放電容量/1サイクル目の放電容量)×100
環境温度45℃の下、上記の二次電池を、1380mAで4.2Vまで定電流充電した後、4.2Vで92mAまで定電圧充電した。その後、2300mAで、2.5Vまで定電流放電した。この充放電を1サイクルとして、200サイクル行い、下記式により容量維持率を求めた。また、1サイクル目の放電容量を電池容量とした。
容量維持率=(200サイクル目の放電容量/1サイクル目の放電容量)×100
[安全性の評価]
環境温度25℃の下、上記の二次電池を、1380mAで4.2Vまで定電流充電した後、4.2Vで92mAまで定電圧充電した。その後、恒温槽に二次電池を収容し、恒温槽の温度を25℃から135℃まで5℃/分で上昇させ、二次電池の側部の温度を熱電対で測定した。このときの二次電池の最高到達温度に基づき二次電池の安全性を評価した。
環境温度25℃の下、上記の二次電池を、1380mAで4.2Vまで定電流充電した後、4.2Vで92mAまで定電圧充電した。その後、恒温槽に二次電池を収容し、恒温槽の温度を25℃から135℃まで5℃/分で上昇させ、二次電池の側部の温度を熱電対で測定した。このときの二次電池の最高到達温度に基づき二次電池の安全性を評価した。
<実施例2>
正極の作製において、第2正極活物質として、LiNi0.82Co0.15Al0.03O2で表されるリチウム遷移金属複合酸化物を用いたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして二次電池を作製し、評価を行った。

実施例及び比較例の各二次電池の評価結果を表1に示す。また、表1には、第1正極合剤層及び第2正極合剤層おけるNiの含有率、並びに、第1正極合剤層と第2正極合剤層との厚みの比を併せて示す。
実施例の二次電池は、電池特性(電池容量、サイクル特性)、及び安全性(熱安定性)が優れている。一方、第2正極活物質のNi含有率が第1正極活物質のNi含有率よりも大きい比較例1の二次電池は、サイクル特性及び熱安定性が、実施例の二次電池に劣る。また、比較例1よりも第1正極活物質のNi含有率が低い比較例は、サイクル特性及び熱安定性に加えて電池容量も、実施例の二次電池に劣る。第1正極活物質と第2正極合剤層のNi含有量が等しい比較例3~5の二次電池は、電池特性又は安全性のいずれかが実施例に劣る。

Claims (2)
- 正極と、負極と、前記正極及び前記負極を相互に隔離するセパレータと、非水電解質とを備える非水電解質二次電池であって、
前記正極は、正極集電体と、前記正極集電体の表面に形成された第1正極合剤層と、前記第1正極合剤層の表面に形成された第2正極合剤層とを有し、
前記第1正極合剤層は、一般式LiaNibM1cM2dOe(式中、0.9≦a≦1.2、0.90≦b≦0.95、0≦c≦0.10、0≦d≦0.05、1.9≦e≦2.1、b+c+d=1、M1は、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素、M2は、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素)で表される第1正極活物質を含み、
前記第2正極合剤層は、一般式LifNigM3hM4iOj(式中、0.9≦f≦1.2、0.80≦g≦0.90、0≦h≦0.20、0≦i≦0.05、1.9≦j≦2.1、g+h+i=1、M3は、Co、Al及びMnからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素、M4は、Ti、Mg及びZrからなる群より選ばれた1種以上の元素)で表される第2正極活物質を含み、
g及びbは、g<bを満たす、非水電解質二次電池。 - 前記第1正極合剤層と前記第2正極合剤層との厚みの比は、90:10~60:40である、請求項1に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
