Abstract
本発明の一態様に係る正極は、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を備え、上記正極合剤が、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極である。本発明の一態様に係る非水電解質蓄電素子は、当該正極を備える非水電解質蓄電素子である。
Description
本発明は、正極、非水電解質蓄電素子、正極の製造方法、及び非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法に関する。
リチウムイオン二次電池に代表される非水電解質二次電池は、エネルギー密度の高さから、パーソナルコンピュータ、通信端末等の電子機器、自動車等に多用されている。上記非水電解質二次電池は、一般的には、セパレータで電気的に隔離された一対の電極を有する電極体、及び電極間に介在する非水電解質を備え、両電極間でイオンの受け渡しを行うことで充放電するよう構成される。また、二次電池以外の非水電解質蓄電素子として、リチウムイオンキャパシタや電気二重層キャパシタ等のキャパシタも広く普及している。
このような非水電解質蓄電素子の正極には、導電性の基材に、正極活物質を含む正極合剤層が積層されたものが広く用いられている。正極活物質としては、リチウム遷移金属複合酸化物等が公知であり、リチウムニッケル複合酸化物などのニッケルを含む正極活物質も採用されている(特許文献1参照)。
上記正極は、製造後、一定期間保管しておく場合がある。一方、非水電解質蓄電素子のエネルギー密度を高めるためには、正極合剤の密度は高い方が好ましい。このような中、正極活物質がニッケルを含み、かつ正極合剤の密度が高い場合、保管に伴って正極の電気抵抗が増大しやすいという不都合を有することを発明者らは知見した。
本発明は、以上のような事情に基づいてなされたものであり、その目的は、高密度の正極合剤を有しているにもかかわらず、保管後の抵抗増大が抑制される正極、及びその製造方法、並びに上記正極を備える非水電解質蓄電素子及びその製造方法を提供することである。
上記課題を解決するためになされた本発明の一態様に係る正極は、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を備え、上記正極合剤が、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極である。
本発明の一態様に係る非水電解質蓄電素子は、当該正極を備える非水電解質蓄電素子である。
本発明の一態様に係る正極の製造方法は、正極合剤ペーストにより、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を形成することを備え、上記正極合剤ペーストが、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極の製造方法である。
本発明の他の一態様に係る非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法は、当該正極の製造方法を含む非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法である。
本発明によれば、高密度の正極合剤を有しているにもかかわらず、保管後の抵抗増大が抑制される正極、及びその製造方法、並びに上記正極を備える非水電解質蓄電素子及びその製造方法を提供することができる。
本発明の一態様は、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を備え、上記正極合剤が、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極である。
当該正極は、高密度の正極合剤を有しているにもかかわらず、保管後の抵抗増大が抑制される。この理由は定かでは無いが、以下のことが推察される。ニッケルを含む正極活物質はアルカリ分が多い。一方、通常、正極においては、正極合剤が積層される導電性の基材として、アルミニウムなどの金属箔が広く採用されている。このような従来の正極を保管した場合、保管中にアルカリ分が水分に溶出し、基材が腐食(溶解)することがある。基材の腐食は正極合剤との密着性の低下などにより、正極の電気抵抗の増大を引き起こす。特に、正極合剤が高密度である場合、アルカリ濃度が高くなるため、腐食が生じやすくなる。また、保管時において、基材が大気中の酸素と反応して酸化被膜を形成し、基材表面の絶縁性が高まることも、正極の抵抗が増大する原因となると推測される。このような従来の正極に対し、当該正極においては、正極合剤が還元性有機酸を含有するため、アルカリ分が中和され、かつ、基材の酸化(溶解)に替わって還元性有機酸が酸化されることができるため、アルカリ分により生じやすくなっている基材の腐食が抑制されると推測される。さらに、還元性有機酸の還元剤としての作用によって、絶縁性を高めるような基材の酸化を抑制することができることも推測される。このような作用により、当該正極によれば、保管後の抵抗増大が抑制されると推測される。
なお、正極合剤の「密度」とは、正極合剤の質量を正極合剤の見かけの体積で除した値をいう。見かけの体積とは、空隙部分を含む体積をいい、正極合剤が層状である場合、正極合剤の厚さと面積との積として求めることができる。
上記還元性有機酸が、カルボン酸であることが好ましい。還元性有機酸としてカルボン酸を用いることで、保管後の抵抗増大の抑制効果が高まる。
上記カルボン酸が、ギ酸、シュウ酸、クエン酸、マロン酸、乳酸、酒石酸、及び没食子酸からなる群より選ばれる少なくとも1種であることが好ましい。このようなカルボン酸を用いることで、保管後の抵抗増大の抑制効果がより高まる。
上記正極活物質における遷移金属に占めるニッケルの含有量が33モル%以上であることが好ましい。このように、ニッケル含有量が高い正極活物質を用いる場合、正極合剤中のアルカリ分が多くなり、基材の腐食等による抵抗増大が生じやすくなる傾向にある。従って、上記正極活物質における遷移金属に占めるニッケルの含有量が33モル%以上である場合、保管後の抵抗増大が抑制されるという本発明の利点が、より効果的に得られる。なお、「遷移金属」とは、周期表で第3族元素から第11族元素の間に存在する元素をいう。
上記還元性有機酸の含有量が、上記正極活物質100質量部に対して0.01質量部以上0.1質量部以下であることが好ましい。還元性有機酸の含有量を上記範囲とすることで、保管後の抵抗増大がより抑制される。
本発明の一態様は、当該正極を備える非水電解質蓄電素子(以下、単に「蓄電素子」ともいう。)である。当該蓄電素子においては、正極の抵抗増大が抑制されている。
本発明の一態様は、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を形成することを備え、上記正極合剤ペーストが、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極の製造方法である。当該製造方法によれば、保管後の抵抗増大が抑制される正極を得ることができる。
本発明の一態様は、当該正極の製造方法を含む非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法である。当該製造方法によれば、正極の抵抗増大が抑制されている蓄電素子を得ることができる。
以下本発明の一実施形態として、正極、蓄電素子、及びこれらの製造方法について順に詳説する。
<正極>
本発明の一実施形態に係る正極は、導電性の基材と、この基材に積層された正極合剤層とを有する。

(正極基材)
上記正極基材は、導電性を有する。基材の材質としては、アルミニウム、チタン、タンタル、ステンレス鋼等の金属又はそれらの合金が用いられる。これらの中でも、耐電位性、導電性の高さ及びコストのバランスからアルミニウム及びアルミニウム合金が好ましい。また、正極基材の形成形態としては、箔、蒸着膜等が挙げられ、コストの面から箔が好ましい。つまり、正極基材としてはアルミニウム箔が好ましい。なお、アルミニウム又はアルミニウム合金としては、JIS-H-4000(2014年)に規定されるA1085P、A3003P等が例示できる。なお、本明細書において、「導電性」を有するとは、JIS-H-0505(1975年)に準拠して測定される体積抵抗率が107Ω・cm以下であることを意味する。
上記正極基材は、導電性を有する。基材の材質としては、アルミニウム、チタン、タンタル、ステンレス鋼等の金属又はそれらの合金が用いられる。これらの中でも、耐電位性、導電性の高さ及びコストのバランスからアルミニウム及びアルミニウム合金が好ましい。また、正極基材の形成形態としては、箔、蒸着膜等が挙げられ、コストの面から箔が好ましい。つまり、正極基材としてはアルミニウム箔が好ましい。なお、アルミニウム又はアルミニウム合金としては、JIS-H-4000(2014年)に規定されるA1085P、A3003P等が例示できる。なお、本明細書において、「導電性」を有するとは、JIS-H-0505(1975年)に準拠して測定される体積抵抗率が107Ω・cm以下であることを意味する。
(正極合剤層)
上記正極合剤層は、正極合剤から形成される層である。正極合剤は、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する。正極合剤は、その他必要に応じて、導電剤、バインダー(結着剤)、増粘剤、フィラー等の任意成分を含むことができる。

上記ニッケルを含む正極活物質としては、例えば層状のα-NaFeO2型結晶構造を有するLi[LixNi1-x]O2(0≦x<0.5)、Li[LixNiαCo(1-x-α)]O2(0≦x<0.5、0<α<1)、Li[LixNiαMnβCo(1-x-α-β]O2(0≦x<0.5、0<α、0<β、0.5<α+β<1)等のリチウム遷移金属複合酸化物等を挙げることができる。また、LiNiPO4等のポリアニオンであってもよい。正極合剤層においては、これら化合物の1種を単独で用いてもよく、2種以上を混合して用いてもよい。
上記ニッケルを含む正極活物質における遷移金属に占めるニッケルの含有量の下限としては、33モル%が好ましく、50モル%がより好ましい。一方、この含有量の上限は、100モル%であってよく、70モル%であってもよい。
上記正極合剤層におけるニッケルを含む正極活物質の含有量の下限としては、70質量%が好ましく、80質量%がより好ましく、85質量%がさらに好ましい。一方、ニッケルを含む正極活物質の含有量の上限としては、99質量%が好ましく、95質量%がより好ましい。ニッケルを含む正極活物質の含有量を上記範囲とすることで、蓄電素子の電気容量を高めることなどができる。
上記正極合剤層は、ニッケルを含む正極活物質以外の正極活物質をさらに含有していてもよい。このような、ニッケルを含まない正極活物質としては、従来公知の正極活物質を適宜用いることができる。
上記還元性有機酸とは、還元性を有する有機酸をいう。還元性とは、他の物質を還元する性質をいう。
上記還元性有機酸としては、還元性を有するカルボン酸、その他、アスコルビン酸、エリソルビン酸等を挙げることができるが、還元性を有するカルボン酸が好ましい。
還元性を有するカルボン酸としては、ギ酸、シュウ酸、クエン酸、マロン酸、乳酸、酒石酸等の脂肪族カルボン酸や、没食子酸等の芳香族カルボン酸を挙げることができる。これらの中でも、脂肪族カルボン酸が好ましく、ギ酸、シュウ酸及びクエン酸がより好ましく、クエン酸がさらに好ましい。これらの還元性有機酸は、適度な酸性度及び還元性を兼ね備え、保管後の抵抗増大を抑制するという効果をより十分に発揮することができる。また、クエン酸、乳酸等のヒドロキシカルボン酸(ヒドロキシ基を有するカルボン酸)も好ましい。還元性有機酸は、1種又は2種以上を用いることができる。
上記還元性有機酸の含有量の下限としては、上記ニッケルを含む正極活物質100質量部に対して0.01質量部が好ましく、0.02質量部がより好ましく、0.03質量部がさらに好ましく、0.04質量部がよりさらに好ましく、0.05質量部がよりさらに好ましい。還元性有機酸の含有量を上記下限以上とすることで、抵抗の増大をより抑制することができる。一方、この含有量の上限としては、0.1質量部が好ましく、0.08質量部がより好ましい。還元性有機酸の含有量が上記上限を超えた場合も、効果は頭打ちとなる傾向にあり、含有量を上記上限以下とすることで、生産コストを抑制することなどができる。
上記導電剤としては、蓄電素子性能に悪影響を与えない導電性材料であれば特に限定されない。このような導電剤としては、天然又は人造の黒鉛、ファーネスブラック、アセチレンブラック、ケッチェンブラック等のカーボンブラック、金属、導電性セラミックス等が挙げられる。導電剤の形状としては、粉状、繊維状等が挙げられる。
上記バインダー(結着剤)としては、フッ素樹脂(ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)、ポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)、フッ化ビニリデン-ヘキサフルオロプロピレン共重合体、テトラフルオロエチレン-ヘキサフルオロプロピレン共重合体等)、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリイミド等の熱可塑性樹脂;エチレン-プロピレン-ジエンゴム(EPDM)、スルホン化EPDM、スチレンブタジエンゴム(SBR)、フッ素ゴム等のエラストマー;多糖類高分子等が挙げられる。
上記バインダーとしては、実質的にゴム弾性を有さないことが好ましいことがある。なお、ゴム弾性を有するバインダーは、通常、三次元網目構造を有し、ガラス転移温度以上で弾性を有する。また、上記バインダーとしては、N-メトキシメチル化ナイロン以外であることが好ましいことがある。上記バインダーの中では、フッ素樹脂が好ましく、PVDFがより好ましい。
上記増粘剤としては、カルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)、メチルセルロース等の多糖類高分子が挙げられる。また、増粘剤がリチウムと反応する官能基を有する場合、予めメチル化等によりこの官能基を失活させておくことが好ましい。
上記フィラーとしては、蓄電素子性能に悪影響を与えないものであれば特に限定されない。フィラーの主成分としては、ポリプロピレン、ポリエチレン等のポリオレフィン、シリカ、アルミナ、ゼオライト、ガラス等が挙げられる。
上記正極合剤層の平均厚さは特に限定されないが、例えば30μm以上200μm以下とすることができる。
上記正極合剤層(正極合剤)の密度の下限は、3.1g/cm3である。当該正極においては、このように正極合剤層の密度が高い場合において通常生じやすい保管後の抵抗上昇を抑制することができる。また、このように正極合剤層の密度が高いことで、蓄電素子のエネルギー密度を高めることができる。なお、この密度の上限としては、4g/cm3が好ましく、3.4g/cm3がより好ましい。正極合剤層の密度は、正極活物質等の成分の粒径や粒度分布、製造工程におけるプレス等によって調整することができる。例えば、粒径の異なる複数種の正極活物質等を混合して用いることで、形成される正極合剤層の密度を高めることができる。
<非水電解質蓄電素子>
本発明の一実施形態に係る蓄電素子は、正極、負極及び非水電解質を有する。以下、蓄電素子の一例として、二次電池について説明する。上記正極及び負極は、通常、セパレータを介して積層又は巻回された電極体を形成する。この電極体はケースに収納され、このケース内に上記非水電解質が充填される。上記非水電解質は、正極と負極との間に介在する。また、上記ケースとしては、二次電池のケースとして通常用いられる公知の金属ケース、樹脂ケース等を用いることができる。
本発明の一実施形態に係る蓄電素子は、正極、負極及び非水電解質を有する。以下、蓄電素子の一例として、二次電池について説明する。上記正極及び負極は、通常、セパレータを介して積層又は巻回された電極体を形成する。この電極体はケースに収納され、このケース内に上記非水電解質が充填される。上記非水電解質は、正極と負極との間に介在する。また、上記ケースとしては、二次電池のケースとして通常用いられる公知の金属ケース、樹脂ケース等を用いることができる。
(正極)
当該二次電池に備わる正極は、上述した本発明の一実施形態に係る正極である。

(負極)
上記負極は、負極基材、及びこの負極基材に直接又は中間層を介して配される負極合剤層を有する。

上記負極基材の材質としては、銅、ニッケル、ステンレス鋼、ニッケルメッキ鋼等の金属又はそれらの合金が用いられ、銅又は銅合金が好ましい。つまり、負極基材としては銅箔が好ましい。銅箔としては、圧延銅箔、電解銅箔等が例示される。
上記負極合剤層は、負極活物質を含むいわゆる負極合剤から形成される。また、負極合剤層を形成する負極合剤は、必要に応じて導電剤、バインダー(結着剤)、増粘剤、フィラー等の任意成分を含む。導電剤、結着剤、増粘剤、フィラー等の任意成分は、正極合剤層と同様のものを用いることができる。
上記負極活物質としては、通常、リチウムイオンを吸蔵及び放出することができる材質が用いられる。具体的な負極活物質としては、例えばSi、Sn等の金属又は半金属;Si酸化物、Sn酸化物等の金属酸化物又は半金属酸化物;ポリリン酸化合物;黒鉛(グラファイト)、非黒鉛質炭素(易黒鉛化性炭素又は難黒鉛化性炭素)等の炭素材料等が挙げられる。
さらに、負極合剤層は、B、N、P、F、Cl、Br、I等の典型非金属元素、Li、Na、Mg、Al、K、Ca、Zn、Ga、Ge等の典型金属元素、Sc、Ti、V、Cr、Mn、Fe、Co、Ni、Cu、Mo、Zr、Ta、Hf、Nb、W等の遷移金属元素を含有してもよい。
(セパレータ)
上記セパレータは、正極と負極とを隔離し、かつ非水電解質を保持する役割を担う。セパレータの材質としては、例えば織布、不織布、多孔質樹脂フィルム等が用いられる。これらの中でも多孔質樹脂フィルムが好ましい。多孔質樹脂フィルムの主成分としては、強度の観点から例えばポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のポリオレフィンが好ましい。また、これらの樹脂とアラミドやポリイミド等の樹脂とを複合した多孔質樹脂フィルムを用いてもよい。
上記セパレータは、正極と負極とを隔離し、かつ非水電解質を保持する役割を担う。セパレータの材質としては、例えば織布、不織布、多孔質樹脂フィルム等が用いられる。これらの中でも多孔質樹脂フィルムが好ましい。多孔質樹脂フィルムの主成分としては、強度の観点から例えばポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のポリオレフィンが好ましい。また、これらの樹脂とアラミドやポリイミド等の樹脂とを複合した多孔質樹脂フィルムを用いてもよい。
(非水電解質)
上記非水電解質は、非水溶媒と、この非水溶媒に溶解する電解質塩とを含む。上記非水電解質には、その他の添加剤が含有されていてもよい。

上記非水溶媒としては、一般的な蓄電素子用非水電解質の非水溶媒として通常用いられる公知の非水溶媒を用いることができる。上記非水溶媒としては、環状カーボネート、鎖状カーボネート、エステル、エーテル、アミド、スルホン、ラクトン、ニトリル等を挙げることができる。これらの中でも、環状カーボネート又は鎖状カーボネートを少なくとも用いることが好ましく、環状カーボネートと鎖状カーボネートとを併用することがより好ましい。環状カーボネートと鎖状カーボネートとを併用する場合、環状カーボネートと鎖状カーボネートとの体積比(環状カーボネート:鎖状カーボネート)としては、特に限定されないが、例えば5:95以上50:50以下とすることが好ましい。
上記環状カーボネートとしては、エチレンカーボネート(EC)、プロピレンカーボネート(PC)、ブチレンカーボネート(BC)、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)、ビニルエチレンカーボネート(VEC)、クロロエチレンカーボネート、フルオロエチレンカーボネート(FEC)、ジフルオロエチレンカーボネート(DFEC)、スチレンカーボネート、カテコールカーボネート、1-フェニルビニレンカーボネート、1,2-ジフェニルビニレンカーボネート等を挙げることができる。
上記鎖状カーボネートとしては、ジエチルカーボネート(DEC)、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)、エチルメチルカーボネート(EMC)、ジフェニルカーボネート等を挙げることができる。
上記電解質塩としては、一般的な蓄電素子用非水電解質の電解質塩として通常用いられる公知の電解質塩を用いることができる。上記電解質塩としては、リチウム塩、ナトリウム塩、カリウム塩、マグネシウム塩、オニウム塩等を挙げることができるが、リチウム塩が好ましい。
上記リチウム塩としては、LiPF6、LiPO2F2、LiBF4、LiClO4、LiN(SO2F)2等の無機リチウム塩、LiSO3CF3、LiN(SO2CF3)2、LiN(SO2C2F5)2、LiN(SO2CF3)(SO2C4F9)、LiC(SO2CF3)3、LiC(SO2C2F5)3等のフッ化炭化水素基を有するリチウム塩などを挙げることができる。
上記非水電解質として、常温溶融塩、イオン液体、ポリマー固体電解質などを用いることもできる。
<正極の製造方法>
本発明の一実施形態に係る正極の製造方法は、正極合剤ペーストにより、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を形成することを備え、上記正極合剤ペーストが、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極の製造方法である。
<正極の製造方法>
本発明の一実施形態に係る正極の製造方法は、正極合剤ペーストにより、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を形成することを備え、上記正極合剤ペーストが、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極の製造方法である。
上記ニッケルを含む正極活物質と還元性有機酸との混合により、正極合剤ペーストが得られる。なお、ニッケルを含む正極活物質に対する還元性有機酸の添加量(混合量)の好適な範囲は、上述した正極合剤層(正極合剤)中におけるニッケルを含む正極活物質に対する還元性有機酸の含有量の好適な範囲と同様である。この正極合剤ペーストを正極基材表面に直接又は中間層を介して塗布し、乾燥させることにより、正極が得られる。正極合剤ペーストには、これらの他、上述した正極合剤に含まれていてもよい各任意成分を含有させることができる。
上記正極合剤ペーストには、通常、分散媒として、有機溶媒が用いられる。この有機溶媒としては、例えばN-メチル-2-ピロリドン(NMP)、アセトン、エタノール等の極性溶媒や、キシレン、トルエン、シクロヘキサン等の無極性溶媒を挙げることができる。
上記正極合剤ペーストの塗布方法としては特に限定されず、ローラーコーティング、スクリーンコーティング、スピンコーティング等の公知の方法により行うことができる。なお、塗布又は乾燥後、公知の方法により、正極合剤層を厚さ方向に押圧してもよい。このように、正極合剤層をプレスすることによって、正極合剤層の密度を高めることができる。
<非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法>
本発明の一実施形態に係る非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法は、上述の正極の製造方法を含む非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法である。
本発明の一実施形態に係る非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法は、上述の正極の製造方法を含む非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法である。
当該製造方法においては、上記製造方法によって正極を得ること以外は、従来の製造方法を採用することができる。当該製造方法は、例えば、上記の正極を作製する工程の他、負極を作製する工程、非水電解質を調製する工程、正極及び負極を、セパレータを介して積層又は巻回することにより交互に重畳された電極体を形成する工程、正極及び負極(電極体)を電池容器に収容する工程、並びに上記電池容器に上記非水電解質を注入する工程を備える。注入後、注入口を封止することにより非水電解質二次電池(非水電解質蓄電素子)を得ることができる。当該製造方法によって得られる非水電解質蓄電素子(二次電池)を構成する各要素についての詳細は上述したとおりである。
<その他の実施形態>
本発明は上記実施形態に限定されるものではなく、上記態様の他、種々の変更、改良を施した態様で実施することができる。例えば、上記正極又は負極において、中間層を設けなくてもよい。また、当該正極において、正極合剤は明確な層を形成していなくてもよい。例えば上記正極は、メッシュ状の正極基材に正極合剤が担持された構造などであってもよい。
本発明は上記実施形態に限定されるものではなく、上記態様の他、種々の変更、改良を施した態様で実施することができる。例えば、上記正極又は負極において、中間層を設けなくてもよい。また、当該正極において、正極合剤は明確な層を形成していなくてもよい。例えば上記正極は、メッシュ状の正極基材に正極合剤が担持された構造などであってもよい。
また、上記実施の形態においては、非水電解質蓄電素子が非水電解質二次電池である形態を中心に説明したが、その他の非水電解質蓄電素子であってもよい。その他の非水電解質蓄電素子としては、キャパシタ(電気二重層キャパシタ、リチウムイオンキャパシタ)等が挙げられる。
図1に、本発明に係る非水電解質蓄電素子の一実施形態である矩形状の非水電解質二次電池1(二次電池1)の概略図を示す。なお、同図は、容器内部を透視した図としている。図1に示す二次電池1は、電極体2が電池容器3に収納されている。電極体2は、正極活物質を備える正極と、負極活物質を備える負極とが、セパレータを介して捲回されることにより形成されている。正極は、正極リード4’を介して正極端子4と電気的に接続され、負極は、負極リード5’を介して負極端子5と電気的に接続されている。また、電池容器3内に、非水電解質が注入されている。なお、正極等の各要素の具体的構成等は、上述したとおりである。
本発明に係る非水電解質蓄電素子の構成については特に限定されるものではなく、円筒型電池、角型電池(矩形状の電池)、扁平型電池等が一例として挙げられる。本発明は、上記の非水電解質蓄電素子を複数備える蓄電装置としても実現することができる。蓄電装置の一実施形態を図2に示す。図2において、蓄電装置30は、複数の蓄電ユニット20を備えている。それぞれの蓄電ユニット20は、複数の二次電池1を備えている。上記蓄電装置30は、電気自動車(EV)、ハイブリッド自動車(HEV)、プラグインハイブリッド自動車(PHEV)等の自動車用電源として搭載することができる。
以下、実施例によって本発明をさらに具体的に説明するが、本発明は以下の実施例に限定されるものではない。
[実施例1]
(正極)
正極活物質であるLiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2と、還元性有機酸であるクエン酸と、導電剤であるアセチレンブラック(AB)と、結着剤であるポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)と、分散媒であるN-メチルピロリドン(NMP)とを用いて正極合剤ペーストを作製した。正極活物質、結着剤及び導電剤の質量比率は90.5:4.5:5.0(固形分換算)とした。また、クエン酸の含有量は、正極活物質100質量部に対して、0.04質量部とした。この正極合剤ペーストを正極基材としてのアルミニウム箔(厚さ16μm)の両面に、正極合剤層非形成部を残して間欠塗工し、乾燥させることで正極合剤層を作製した。その後、正極合剤層表面をロールプレスし、正極を得た。得られた正極の厚さは140μm、正極合剤(正極合剤層)の密度は3.1g/cm3であった。
(正極)

[実施例2~5、比較例1~6]
有機酸(還元性有機酸又はその他の有機酸)の種類及びその含有量、並びに正極合剤の密度を表1、2に示した通りとしたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして、実施例2~5及び比較例1~6の各正極を得た。なお、正極合剤層表面のプレス圧力を適宜変更して、正極合剤の密度を調整した。また、表2中のマレイン酸は、還元性を有さない有機酸である。
有機酸(還元性有機酸又はその他の有機酸)の種類及びその含有量、並びに正極合剤の密度を表1、2に示した通りとしたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして、実施例2~5及び比較例1~6の各正極を得た。なお、正極合剤層表面のプレス圧力を適宜変更して、正極合剤の密度を調整した。また、表2中のマレイン酸は、還元性を有さない有機酸である。
[評価]
(保管前の表面抵抗測定)
上記のようにして作製された各正極について、表面抵抗計(三菱化学社の「ロレスタFP」、プローブは4探針のMCP-TESTERを使用)にて、25℃、露点0℃以下の環境で合剤層表面の抵抗を測定した。
(保管前の表面抵抗測定)
上記のようにして作製された各正極について、表面抵抗計(三菱化学社の「ロレスタFP」、プローブは4探針のMCP-TESTERを使用)にて、25℃、露点0℃以下の環境で合剤層表面の抵抗を測定した。
(保管後の表面抵抗測定1)
上記保管前の表面抵抗を測定した実施例1~2及び比較例1~4の各正極について、温度30℃、相対湿度55%の環境下に二週間保管した。保管後の各正極について、上記「保管前の表面抵抗測定」と同様の方法にて、表面抵抗を測定した。保管前の表面抵抗値に対する保管後の表面抵抗値の百分率を表面抵抗増加率(%)として表1に示す。
上記保管前の表面抵抗を測定した実施例1~2及び比較例1~4の各正極について、温度30℃、相対湿度55%の環境下に二週間保管した。保管後の各正極について、上記「保管前の表面抵抗測定」と同様の方法にて、表面抵抗を測定した。保管前の表面抵抗値に対する保管後の表面抵抗値の百分率を表面抵抗増加率(%)として表1に示す。
(保管後の表面抵抗測定2:加速試験)
上記保管前の表面抵抗を測定した実施例3~5及び比較例5~6の各正極について、温度50℃、相対湿度75%の環境下に二週間保管した。保管後の各正極について、上記「保管前の表面抵抗測定」と同様の方法にて、表面抵抗を測定した。保管前の表面抵抗値に対する保管後の表面抵抗値の百分率を表面抵抗増加率(%)として表2に示す。
上記保管前の表面抵抗を測定した実施例3~5及び比較例5~6の各正極について、温度50℃、相対湿度75%の環境下に二週間保管した。保管後の各正極について、上記「保管前の表面抵抗測定」と同様の方法にて、表面抵抗を測定した。保管前の表面抵抗値に対する保管後の表面抵抗値の百分率を表面抵抗増加率(%)として表2に示す。
表1の結果から以下のことがわかる。比較例1~3を比較すると、正極合剤の密度が3.1g/cm3以上の場合(比較例2、3)、保管後の表面抵抗が大きく増加している。これに対し、実施例1、2で示されるように、密度が3.1g/cm3以上の正極合剤に還元性有機酸であるクエン酸を含有させることで、表面抵抗の増加が抑制されることがわかる。一方、比較例1と比較例4との対比からわかるように、正極合剤の密度が3.1g/cm3未満の場合、正極合剤にクエン酸を含有させても、表面抵抗の増加抑制効果は生じていない。すなわち、正極の保管後の抵抗増加が抑制されるという効果は、密度が3.1g/cm3以上の正極合剤に対して還元性有機酸を含有させたときに初めて生じる効果であることがわかる。
また、表2に示されるように、実施例3~5を比較すると、還元性有機酸であるクエン酸の含有量を増やすことで、表面抵抗の増加抑制効果は高まることがわかる。一方、還元性を有さない有機酸であるマレイン酸を用いた比較例7においては、表面抵抗の増加抑制効果がほとんど生じていない。このような結果から、正極の保管後の抵抗増加が抑制されるという効果は、酸性と還元性との双方を備える添加剤を用いることで初めて生じる効果であることがわかる。
本発明は、パーソナルコンピュータ、通信端末等の電子機器、自動車などの電源として使用される非水電解質二次電池をはじめとした非水電解質蓄電素子に適用できる。

Claims (8)
- 密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を備え、
上記正極合剤が、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極。 - 上記還元性有機酸が、カルボン酸である請求項1の正極。
- 上記カルボン酸が、ギ酸、シュウ酸、クエン酸、マロン酸、乳酸、酒石酸、及び没食子酸からなる群より選ばれる少なくとも1種である請求項2の正極。
- 上記正極活物質における遷移金属に占めるニッケルの含有量が33モル%以上である請求項1、請求項2又は請求項3の正極。
- 上記還元性有機酸の含有量が、上記正極活物質100質量部に対して0.01質量部以上0.1質量部以下である請求項1から請求項4のいずれか1項の正極。
- 請求項1から請求項5のいずれか1項の正極を備える非水電解質蓄電素子。
- 正極合剤ペーストにより、密度が3.1g/cm3以上である正極合剤を形成することを備え、
上記正極合剤ペーストが、ニッケルを含む正極活物質及び還元性有機酸を含有する非水電解質蓄電素子用の正極の製造方法。 - 請求項7の正極の製造方法を含む非水電解質蓄電素子の製造方法。
