[過熱水蒸気処理]
まず、直径約10cmの孟宗竹を、長さ50cm程度に切断して竹原料とした。
次に、ヘミセルロースを選択的に分解して竹の割裂を容易にするために、この竹原料を過熱水蒸気処理した。このときの過熱水蒸気の温度は200~250℃であった。
この過熱水蒸気処理した竹原料を、株式会社奈良機械製作所製のハンマーミル(HM-5型。ローター径:460mm、回転数:1800rpm、スクリーン径:20mm)を用いて粗粉砕し、続いて株式会社奈良機械製作所製の自由粉砕機(M-4型。ローター径:320mm、回転数:4500rpm、スクリーン径:4mm)を用いて微粉砕した。こうして、竹繊維と柔細胞が一体となっている竹を粉砕して、竹繊維と柔細胞が分離した混合物(篩分け対象物、以下、単に混合物ということがある。)を調製した。なお、この混合物は大部分が竹繊維と柔細胞とに分離されているが、竹繊維の径と長さ、柔細胞の粒子径に分布を有している。
[一次分級処理(前工程)]
この装置においては、第1篩30aにはスリット幅(第1開口幅S1)が0.50mmのウェッジワイヤースクリーンを、第2篩30bにはスリット幅(第2開口幅S2)が0.18mmのウェッジワイヤースクリーンを、各々設置した。
第1振動付与装置13aを作動させて、第1篩30a、第2篩30b及び第1トラフ15aに振動を付与した。
続いて、電磁フィーダーを用いて第1投入部11aから混合物を定量供給すると、当該混合物は第1篩30a上に投下され、第1振動付与装置13aから伝達された振動に基づいて、第1篩30a上を前方向に移動した。
そして、径がスリット幅(第1開口幅S1)より小さい竹繊維と粒子径がスリット幅(第1開口幅S1)より小さい柔細胞は、第1篩30aのスリットを通過して第2篩30b上に落下した。第2篩30b上に落下した混合物は、上記と同様に第1振動付与装置13aから伝達された振動に基づいて、第2篩30b上を前方向に移動した。
そして、径がスリット幅(第2開口幅S2)より小さい竹繊維と粒子径がスリット幅(第2開口幅S2)より小さい柔細胞は、第2篩30bのスリットを通過して第1トラフ15a上に落下した。
第1篩30a上に残った混合物は、第1篩30a上を前方向に移動してその前方端部から再処理容器36に落下した。
再処理容器36に落下した竹繊維と柔細胞からなる混合物に対して再度上記の粉砕処理を行った後に第1投入部11aから第1篩30a上に投下し、再度同様の一次分級処理を行った。
この装置においては、第3篩30cには孔径d1が0.60mmの多孔板を、第4篩30dには孔径d4が0.30mmの多孔板を、各々設置した。
また、第3振動付与装置13cを作動させて第3篩30cと第3トラフ15cに振動を付与し、第4振動付与装置13dを作動させて第4篩30dと第4トラフ15dに振動を付与した。
第1篩30aは通過したが第2篩30b上に残った混合物は、第2篩30b上を前方向に移動して、その前方端部から第3投入部11cを介して第3篩30c上に落下し、第2篩30bを通過して第1トラフ15a上に落下した混合物は、第1トラフ15a上を前方向に移動して、その前方端部から第4投入部11dを介して第4篩30d上に連続的に落下した。
第3篩30c上に落下した混合物は、第3振動付与装置13cから伝達された振動に基づいて、第3篩30c上を前方向に移動する。そして、略球形状(アスペクト比が小さい)の柔細胞は第3篩30cの孔を通過して第3トラフ15c上に落下するが、針状(アスペクト比が大きい)の竹繊維は第3篩30cの孔を通過することができない。
第3篩30c上に残った竹繊維は、第3篩30c上を前方向に移動してその前方端部から第1容器37aに、第3篩30cを通過して第3トラフ15c上に落下した柔細胞は、第3トラフ15c上を前方向に移動してその前方端部から第2容器37bに、各々落下した。
同様に、第4篩30d上に落下した混合物は、第4振動付与装置13dから伝達された振動に基づいて、第4篩30d上を前方向に移動する。そして、略球形状(アスペクト比が小さい)の柔細胞は第4篩30dの孔を通過して第4トラフ15d上に落下するが、針状(アスペクト比が大きい)の竹繊維は第4篩30dの孔を通過することはできない。
第4篩30d上に残った竹繊維は、第4篩30d上を前方向に移動してその前方端部から第3容器37cに、第4篩30dを通過して第4トラフ15d上に落下した柔細胞は、第4トラフ15d上を前方向に移動してその前方端部から第4容器37dに、各々落下した。
さらに、竹繊維においてはその径により、また柔細胞においてはその粒径により、大きいものと小さいものとに分割することができた。
なお、一次分級処理において、開口幅Sの異なる2種類のウェッジワイヤースクリーンを用いて分級したが、3種類以上のウェッジワイヤースクリーンを用いることにより、竹繊維においてはその径によって、柔細胞においては粒子径によって、細かく、さらには小さなところまで、分別することができる。
一方、二次分級処理において、孔径dの異なる2種類以上の多孔板を用いることにより、竹繊維を、そのアスペクト比によって分別することができる。
