従来より、タイヤのサイドウォールに用いられるゴム組成物としては、優れた引き裂き強度を示す天然ゴムに加えて、耐屈曲亀裂性能を改善するためにブタジエンゴムをブレンドし、さらに耐候性、補強性を改善するためにカーボンブラックが配合されたものが汎用されていた。
しかし、近年、環境問題が重視されるようになり、CO排出規制が強化され、また、石油資源は有限であることから、将来的に石油価格の高騰が予測され、ブタジエンゴムやカーボンブラックなどの石油資源からなる原材料の使用には限界がある。そのため、天然ゴムやシリカ、炭酸カルシウムなどの白色充填剤のような石油外資源を使用することが望ましく、その場合においても石油資源を用いたゴム組成物と同等以上の性能(耐屈曲亀裂性能、補強性など)を付与することが必要である。
特許文献1には、天然ゴム及びシリカを混練りし、次いでエポキシ化天然ゴムを混練りするゴム組成物の製法、特許文献2には、原料ゴム、シリカ、シランカップリング剤を密閉式ゴム混合機で混練りし、次いで2軸混練機で所定温度の時間をかけて混練りする混練方法が開示されている。しかし、より優れた耐屈曲亀裂性能、引き裂き強度を有するゴム組成物の製法が望まれていた。

本発明は、上記課題を解決し、石油外資源の含有比率を高めることで地球に優しく、将来の石油の供給量の減少に備えることができるとともに、優れた耐屈曲亀裂性能、引き裂き強度を示すサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法を提供することを目的とする。
本発明は、天然ゴム、シリカ及びシランカップリング剤を混練りする工程1と、上記工程1で得られた混練物1、ステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛を混練りする工程2と、上記工程2で得られた混練物2及びエポキシ化天然ゴムを混練りする工程3とを含むサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法に関する。
工程1が、天然ゴム、及びシリカをシランカップリング剤で処理した表面処理シリカを混練りする工程であることが好ましい。
工程2が、更に老化防止剤及びワックスを混練りする工程であることが好ましい。
本発明はまた、ゴム成分100質量%中の天然ゴムの含有量が30~90質量%、エポキシ化天然ゴムの含有量が10~70質量%である上記製造方法により得られたサイドウォール用ゴム組成物に関する。
シリカの窒素吸着比表面積が30~500m/gであり、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、シリカの含有量が15~60質量部であることが好ましい。
本発明はまた、上記ゴム組成物を用いて作製したサイドウォールを有する空気入りタイヤに関する。
本発明によれば、特定の工程1~3を含むサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法であるので、石油外資源の含有比率を高めることで地球に優しく、将来の石油の供給量の減少に備えられるとともに、優れた耐屈曲亀裂性能、引き裂き強度を示すサイドウォール用ゴム組成物が得られる。
本発明のサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法は、天然ゴム、シリカ及びシランカップリング剤を混練りする工程1と、上記工程1で得られた混練物1、ステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛を混練りする工程2と、上記工程2で得られた混練物2及びエポキシ化天然ゴムを混練りする工程3とを含む。これらの工程を順次行うことで耐屈曲亀裂性能及び引き裂き強度を改善したゴム組成物を製造できる。
このような効果を奏する理由は明らかではないが、以下の作用機能によると推察される。
先ず、ステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛を混練りする前に、予め天然ゴム(NR)、シリカ及びシランカップリング剤を混練りする工程1を行うと、ステアリン酸などによりシランカップリング剤の反応が阻害されることがない。そのため、これらの成分を同一工程で混練りする方法に比べて、反応率が高められ、シリカ及びNR間のシランカップリング剤を介した反応(結合)を促進できる。また、エポキシ化天然ゴム(ENR)に先立ってNRが混練りされているため、ENR側へのシリカ及びシランカップリング剤の偏在も抑制できる。続いて、得られた混練物1、ステアリン酸、酸化亜鉛を混練りした後に、ENRを混練りすることで(工程2~3)、ENRよりもNRに対するシランカップリング剤の反応が促進される。そのため、混練物1とENRを混練りした後にステアリン酸などを混練りする方法に比べて反応率が高められる。以上のように反応率促進効果が発揮され、シリカの分散性が高まることで、耐屈曲亀裂性能及び引き裂き強度が改善されると推察される。
(工程1)
工程1では、NR、シリカ及びシランカップリング剤が混練りされる。
NRとしては特に限定されず、例えば、SIR20、RSS♯3、TSR20など、タイヤ工業において一般的なものを使用できる。
前記工程1におけるNRの配合量は、全工程において用いられる全NRの配合量の40~100質量%であることが好ましい。配合量が40質量%未満では、NRに対するシリカ量の比率が高くなるため、混練物の粘度が非常に高くなり、加工しにくい傾向がある。配合量は100質量%であることが最も好ましい。
シリカとしては、特に制限はないが、乾式法シリカ(無水ケイ酸)、湿式法シリカ(含水ケイ酸)などが挙げられ、シラノール基が多いという理由から、湿式法シリカが好ましい。シリカは、単独で用いてもよく、2種以上を併用してもよい。
シリカのBET法による窒素吸着比表面積(NSA)は、30m/g以上が好ましく、50m/g以上がより好ましく、80m/g以上が更に好ましい。30m/g未満では、補強効果が小さい傾向がある。該NSAは、500m/g以下が好ましく、400m/g以下がより好ましく、200m/g以下が更に好ましい。500m/gを超えると、シリカの分散性が低下するおそれがある。
なお、シリカのNSAは、ASTM-D-4820-93に準拠したBET法により測定することができる。
工程1におけるシリカの配合量は、全工程において用いられる全シリカの配合量の80~100質量%であることが好ましい。配合量が80質量%未満では、工程3においてENR中にシリカが多く配合されて硬い層ができるため、耐屈曲亀裂性能が劣る傾向がある。配合量は100質量%であることが最も好ましい。
シランカップリング剤としては特に限定されず、従来からタイヤ分野において汎用されているものを使用でき、例えば、スルフィド系、メルカプト系、ビニル系、アミノ系、グリシドキシ系、ニトロ系、クロロ系シランカップリング剤などが挙げられる。なかでも、ビス(3-トリエトキシシリルプロピル)テトラスルフィド、ビス(2-トリエトキシシリルエチル)テトラスルフィド、ビス(3-トリエトキシシリルプロピル)ジスルフィド、ビス(2-トリエトキシシリルエチル)ジスルフィドなどのスルフィド系を好適に使用できる。
工程1におけるシランカップリング剤の配合量は、全工程において用いられる全シランカップリング剤の配合量の80~100質量%であることが好ましい。配合量が80質量%未満では、工程3においてENR中にシランカップリング剤が多く配合されて硬い層ができるため、耐屈曲亀裂性能が劣る傾向がある。配合量は100質量%であることが最も好ましい。
前記工程1は、天然ゴム、及びシリカをシランカップリング剤で処理した表面処理シリカを混練りする工程であること、すなわちシリカ及びシランカップリング剤として、シリカをシランカップリング剤で処理した表面処理シリカを用いることが好ましい。これにより、シランカップリング剤の反応率を向上でき、耐屈曲亀裂性能を一層改善でき、熱老化による引き裂き強度の劣化も防止できる。
表面処理シリカの作製方法としては、シリカの表面の全部又は一部を被覆できる方法であれば特に制限はなく、たとえば、溶媒の非存在下でシリカ及びシランカップリング剤を混合する方法や、溶媒の存在下でシリカ及びシランカップリング剤を混合してから、該溶媒を除去する方法などが挙げられる。
なお、表面処理シリカの好ましいNSAは前述のシリカと同様である。
シリカをシランカップリング剤で処理する場合、シランカップリング剤の配合量は、シリカ100質量部に対して、好ましくは1質量部以上、より好ましくは1.5質量部以上である。1質量部未満では、シリカを充分に処理できないおそれがある。該配合量は、好ましくは20質量部以下、より好ましくは15質量部以下である。20質量部を超えると、コストがあがる割に性能改善効果が小さいだけでなく、シリカ表面に未反応のシランカップリング剤が残存し、加工性が低下する傾向がある。
上記処理を行う場合、処理温度は、好ましくは120℃以上、より好ましくは125℃以上である。120℃未満では、シリカとシランカップリング剤が充分に反応できず、加工性や性能に悪影響を及ぼす可能性がある。また、該処理温度は、好ましくは180℃以下、より好ましくは175℃以下である。180℃を超えると、シランカップリング剤中の硫黄部分の安定性が失われ、性能に悪影響を及ぼす可能性がある。
前記工程1では、シランカップリング剤の反応率が高いという理由から、NR、シリカ、及びシランカップリング剤のみを混練りすることが好ましい。
工程1の混練り方法としては、温度を制御しながら各成分を混練りできる方法であれば特に限定されないが、例えば、バンバリーミキサーなどの密閉式混練機を好適に用いることができる。
工程1の混練り温度は135~145℃、混練り時間は3~4分であることが好ましい。下限未満であると、シリカの分散や、シランカップリング剤の反応が不充分となるおそれがある。上限を超えると、混練り時にNRが損傷し易くなり、耐屈曲亀裂性能、引き裂き強度が悪化する傾向がある。
(工程2)
前記工程2では、前記混練物1、ステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛を混練りする。工程1のNRの混練り後で、かつ工程3のENRの混練り前にステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛を混練りすることで、シランカップリング剤の反応率を向上できる。
前記工程2におけるステアリン酸、酸化亜鉛の配合量は、それぞれ全工程において用いられる全ステアリン酸、酸化亜鉛の配合量の80質量%以上が好ましく、100質量%が最も好ましい。
前記工程2では、ステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛とともに、老化防止剤、ワックスを混練りすることが好ましい。工程2でこれらの成分も混練りすることで、良好な反応率向上効果が得られる。
老化防止剤としては、ジフェニルアミン系(p-(p-トルエンスルホニルアミド)-ジフェニルアミン、オクチル化ジフェニルアミンなど)、p-フェニレンジアミン系(N-(1,3-ジメチルブチル)-N’-フェニル-p-フェニレンジアミン(6PPD)、N-フェニル-N’-イソプロピル-p-フェニレンジアミン(IPPD)、N,N’-ジ-2-ナフチル-p-フェニレンジアミンなど)などが挙げられる。ワックスとしては、従来から公知のものを用いることができ、たとえば、従来から公知の天然系ワックス、石油系ワックスなどを用いることができる。
前記工程2では、混練物1及び前記成分(ステアリン酸、酸化亜鉛、老化防止剤、ワックス)以外にも、他の成分を適宜配合してもよく、これらの成分のみを配合してもよい。
工程2の混練り方法としては、工程1と同様の方法が挙げられる。
工程2の混練り温度は125~135℃、混練り時間は2~4分であることが好ましい。下限未満であると、シリカの分散や、シランカップリング剤の反応が不充分となるおそれがある。上限を超えると、混練り時にNRが損傷し易くなり、耐屈曲亀裂性能、引き裂き強度が悪化する傾向がある。
(工程3)
前記工程3では、前記工程2で得られた混練物2及びENRを混練りする。工程2の後に工程3が行われるため、耐屈曲亀裂性能を顕著に改善できる。
ENRとしては、市販のENR(ENR25、ENR50(クンプーランガスリー社製)など)を用いてもよいし、天然ゴム(NR)をエポキシ化して用いてもよい。NRをエポキシ化する方法としては特に限定されるものではなく、クロルヒドリン法、直接酸化法、過酸化水素法、アルキルヒドロペルオキシド法、過酸法などの方法を用いて行うことができる。過酸法としては、例えば、NRに過酢酸や過蟻酸などの有機過酸を反応させる方法などが挙げられる。なお、エポキシ化を施すNRとしては、ゴム工業において一般的なものを使用できる。また、ENRは、単独で用いても、2種以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。
ENRのエポキシ化率は、好ましくは12モル%以上である。12モル%未満では、ENRがNRと相溶化するため本発明の効果が少なくなる傾向がある。ENRのエポキシ化率は、好ましくは50モル%以下である。50モル%を超えると、得られたゴム組成物のゴム強度が充分ではない傾向がある。なお、エポキシ化率とは、エポキシ化前の天然ゴム成分中の炭素間二重結合の全数のうちエポキシ化された数の割合を意味し、例えば、滴定分析や核磁気共鳴(NMR)分析などにより求められる。
工程3におけるENRの配合量は、全工程において用いられる全ENRの配合量の50~100質量%であることが好ましい。50質量%未満では、ENR中にシリカが多く配合されて硬い層ができるため、耐屈曲亀裂性能が劣る傾向がある。また、ENRの配合量は100質量%であることが最も好ましい。
前記工程3では、ENR以外の他の成分を本発明の効果を阻害しない範囲で適宜配合できるが、シランカップリング剤の反応率が高いという理由から、ENRのみを配合することが好ましい。
工程3の混練り方法としては、工程1と同様の方法が挙げられる。
工程3の混練り温度は125~135℃、混練り時間は2~4分であることが好ましい。下限未満であると、シリカの分散や、シランカップリング剤の反応が不充分となるおそれがある。上限を超えると、混練り時にNRが損傷し易くなり、耐屈曲亀裂性能、引き裂き強度が悪化する傾向がある。
(工程4)
本発明では前記工程1~3によりベース練りを行った後、通常、仕上げ練り工程、例えば、工程3で得られた混練物3、硫黄などの加硫剤、加硫促進剤などを75~85℃、2~4分の条件で混練りする工程が行われ、その後加硫工程を行うことで加硫ゴム組成物が得られる。
前述の製造法により得られたサイドウォール用ゴム組成物において、ゴム成分100質量%中のNRの含有量は、好ましくは30質量%以上、より好ましくは40質量%以上である。30質量%未満であると、充分なゴム強度が得られない傾向がある。該含有量は、好ましくは90質量%以下、より好ましくは80質量%以下である。90質量%を超えると、耐屈曲亀裂性能が悪化する傾向がある。
上記ゴム組成物において、ゴム成分100質量%中のENRの含有量は、好ましくは10質量%以上、より好ましくは20質量%以上である。10質量%未満であると、耐屈曲亀裂性能が悪化する傾向がある。該含有量は、好ましくは70質量%以下、より好ましくは60質量%以下、更に好ましくは50質量%以下である。70質量%を超えると、充分なゴム強度が得られない傾向がある。
なお、ゴム成分として、NR及びENR以外にもポリブタジエンゴム、スチレンブタジエンゴム、ブチルゴム、ハロゲン化ブチルゴム、イソブチレンとp-メチルスチレンとの共重合体のハロゲン化物などのゴムを用いることができるが、石油外資源の使用という点から、NR及びENRのみを使用することが好ましい。
上記ゴム組成物において、シリカの含有量は、ゴム成分100質量部に対して好ましくは15質量部以上、より好ましくは20質量部以上である。15質量部未満では、引き裂き強度が低く、走行中に突起物と接触したときに、切れが発生する可能性がある。該含有量は好ましくは60質量部以下、より好ましくは50質量部以下である。60質量部を超えると、耐屈曲亀裂性能が劣る傾向がある。
シランカップリング剤の含有量は、シリカ100質量部に対して4質量部以上が好ましく、6質量部以上がより好ましい。該含有量は、20質量部以下が好ましく、10質量部以下がより好ましい。該含有量を上記範囲内とすることにより、良好な耐屈曲亀裂性能が得られる。
また、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、ステアリン酸の含有量は1~5質量部が好ましく、酸化亜鉛の含有量は1~5質量部が好ましい。
上記ゴム組成物において、脂肪酸金属塩の含有量は、ゴム成分100質量部に対して、好ましくは0.5質量部以下、より好ましくは0.1質量部以下、特に好ましくは0質量部である。脂肪酸金属塩を使用しないことで、シランカップリング剤の反応率の向上に起因する耐熱老化性効果が得られ、優れた耐熱老化性が発揮される。また、初期の耐屈曲亀裂性能も改善できる。
なお、脂肪酸金属塩としては、ステアリン酸ナトリウム、ステアリン酸マグネシウム、ステアリン酸カルシウム、ステアリン酸バリウムなどのステアリン酸金属塩、オレイン酸ナトリウム、オレイン酸マグネシウム、オレイン酸カルシウム、オレイン酸バリウムなどのオレイン酸金属塩などが挙げられる。
本発明の空気入りタイヤは、上記サイドウォール用ゴム組成物を用いて通常の方法によって製造される。すなわち、上記製造方法により得られたゴム組成物を、未加硫の段階でタイヤのサイドウォールなどの形状に合わせて押し出し加工し、タイヤ成型機上にて通常の方法にて成形し、他のタイヤ部材とともに貼り合わせ、未加硫タイヤを形成する。この未加硫タイヤを加硫機中で加熱加圧してタイヤを製造できる。
実施例に基づいて、本発明を具体的に説明するが、本発明はこれらのみに限定されるものではない。
以下、実施例及び比較例で用いた各種薬品について説明する。

(ゴム組成物の製造)
工程1:表1、2の配合処方に従い、充填率が58%になるように(株)神戸製鋼製の1.7Lバンバリーミキサーに充填し、80rpmで140℃に到達するまで混練りし、混練物を得た。
工程2:工程1で得られた混練物に、工程2に示す成分を配合してバンバリーミキサーを用いて70rpmで3分間混練りした。比較例1~7、10では、工程2を行わなかった。
工程3:工程1又は工程2で得られた混練物に対して、工程3に示す成分を配合して、工程2と同じ条件下で混練りした。比較例5~10では工程3を行わなかった。
工程4:工程3で得られた混練物に対して、工程4に示す成分を配合して工程2と同じ条件下で混練りした。比較例3、4以外は工程4を行わなかった。
仕上げ練り工程:工程1~4で得られた混練物に対して、仕上げ練り工程に示す硫黄及び加硫促進剤を添加し、80℃の条件下で3分間練り込み、未加硫ゴム組成物を得た。さらに、得られた未加硫ゴム組成物を160℃の条件下で20分間プレス加硫し、加硫ゴム組成物を作製した。
得られた加硫ゴム組成物を用いて、以下の評価を行った。その結果を表1~2に示す。なお、表2の熱老化後の評価は、サンプルを空気雰囲気下において80℃で3日間保持した後に行った。
(硬度)
JIS-K6253の「加硫ゴムおよび熱可塑性ゴムの硬さ試験方法」に従い、タイプAデュロメーターにてゴム硬度を測定した。
(引き裂き試験)
JIS-K6252の「加硫ゴムおよび熱可塑性ゴム-引き裂き強度の求め方」に準じて、切り込み無しのアングル形試験片(加硫ゴム組成物)を使用して、引き裂き強度(N/mm)を測定した。引き裂き強度が大きいほど、耐クラック性に優れることを示す。
(耐亀裂成長性評価)
加硫ゴム組成物を用いて、1mm×50mm×20mmのゴムスラブシートを作製し、サンプル幅の2mmまでカミソリにてカットして初期亀裂を入れ、長辺方向(カット方向に垂直な方向)に繰り返し歪みを加えた。歪み率は5%、周波数は5Hz、サンプル温度は70℃とした。
繰り返し歪みを加えてから亀裂成長長さが1mm程度になるまでの、初期の亀裂成長速度dc/dn(m/cycle)を測定した。亀裂成長速度dc/dnが小さいほど、耐亀裂成長性に優れることを示す。なお、表1~2では、比較例5又は比較例9を100とし、各配合の亀裂成長速度dc/dnを指数表示した。耐亀裂成長性評価指数が小さいほど、耐亀裂成長性に優れることを示す。なお、データはN=4の平均とした。

表1、2から、比較例7、10では、耐亀裂成長性は良好ではあるが、ゴムとして合成ゴムであるブタジエンゴムを用い、充填剤として化石資源由来であるカーボンブラックを用いていることから、環境に対して配慮する点で好ましくない。
実施例1~2は、比較例1~2、5~6と比べ引き裂き強度は同等であるが、耐亀裂成長性評価結果において、dc/dnの値が小さく、改善され良好な結果であった。
実施例7は、比較例8、9と比べ引き裂き強度が大きく、耐亀裂成長性評価結果においてもdc/dnの値が小さく、改善され良好な結果であった。また、熱老化後の引き裂き強度、耐亀裂成長性評価における耐熱老化性も改善された。

Claims (6)

  1. 天然ゴム、シリカ及びシランカップリング剤を混練りする工程1と、
    前記工程1で得られた混練物1、ステアリン酸及び酸化亜鉛を混練りする工程2と、
    前記工程2で得られた混練物2及びエポキシ化天然ゴムを混練りする工程3とを含むサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法。
  2. 工程1が、天然ゴム、及びシリカをシランカップリング剤で処理した表面処理シリカを混練りする工程である請求項1記載のサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法。
  3. 工程2が、更に老化防止剤及びワックスを混練りする工程である請求項1又は2記載のサイドウォール用ゴム組成物の製造方法。
  4. ゴム成分100質量%中の天然ゴムの含有量が30~90質量%、エポキシ化天然ゴムの含有量が10~70質量%である請求項1~3のいずれかに記載の製造方法により得られたサイドウォール用ゴム組成物。
  5. シリカの窒素吸着比表面積が30~500m/gであり、
    ゴム成分100質量部に対して、シリカの含有量が15~60質量部である請求項4記載のサイドウォール用ゴム組成物。
  6. 請求項4又は5記載のゴム組成物を用いて作製したサイドウォールを有する空気入りタイヤ。
