Abstract

【課題】収納しやすい簡易な構成で、収納位置の下側にピラートリムが存在しても、ピラートリムに干渉することなく迅速に膨張展開するカーテンエアバッグを提供する。 【解決手段】車両室内の側面部上方に収納されるカーテンエアバッグ200であって、当該カーテンエアバッグ200の上部に位置し、膨張展開用ガスを膨張領域へ流通させるメインダクト214と、メインダクト214の領域にてメインダクト214の外表面に一部が取り付けられ、当該カーテンエアバッグ200を側面部上方の側壁に固定するタブ240と、を備え、メインダクト214は、メインダクト214の上縁部218をタブ240の少なくとも一部が取り付けられる位置よりも下方にして、側面部上方に収納されることを特徴とする。

Description

カーテンエアバッグ
 本発明は、車両の側面衝突時やロールオーバ(横転)時に、乗員保護を目的として車両室内の側面部に沿って膨張展開するカーテンエアバッグに関するものである。
 車両が側面衝突からロールオーバに移行しても乗員の頭部を保護可能なカーテンエアバッグは、主にドア上方のルーフトリムの内側のルーフサイドレール等に取り付けられている。通常のカーテンエアバッグは、限られた収納スペースに取り付け可能にするため、折り畳み等により小さくまとめられた状態で取り付けられている。
 カーテンエアバッグは、乗員の頭部や上半身が衝突する可能性のある領域をすべてカバーするよう、車両の側面部に沿って展開する必要がある。通常、車両の側面部には、ルーフサイドレール等を支える柱の役割を果たす複数のピラーが存在していて、各ピラーは車内側にクッション材等で構成されたピラートリム(内装材)を備えている。ピラートリムとピラーとの間には間隙が形成されている。そのため、ルーフサイドレールに取り付けられたカーテンエアバッグが下方に向けて膨張展開すると、上記の間隙に引っかかり、展開が遅れたり阻害されたりするおそれがある。
 例えば特許文献1には、頭部保護エアバッグ装置の配設構造が開示されている。この配設構造はエアバッグ袋体展開方向規制手段を備えていて、同手段は、断面がL字形状となる屈曲部をもつ金属プレートと、断面コ字状の軟質樹脂からなる樹脂プレートとからなる。この配設構造によれば、展開途中のエアバッグ袋体が、Bピラーガーニッシュ(Bピラートリム)上端部に強く接触したり、ボディーとBピラーガーニッシュとの間に入り込んだりすることがなく、エアバッグ袋体をよりスムーズに展開させることができるとされている。
特開2000-33845号公報
 しかし特許文献1に記載のように金属製および樹脂製のプレートなどの別部材を備える構成とすると、本来限られているカーテンエアバッグの収納スペースをさらに制限してしまう。また、金属製および樹脂製のプレートは製造コストの増大、および重量の増加を招く。
 本発明は、このような課題に鑑み、収納しやすい簡易な構成で、収納位置の下側にピラートリムが存在してもピラートリムに干渉することなく迅速に膨張展開するカーテンエアバッグを提供することを目的としている。
 上記課題を解決するために、本発明にかかるカーテンエアバッグの代表的な構成は、車両室内の側面部上方に収納されるカーテンエアバッグであって、当該カーテンエアバッグの上部に位置し、膨張展開用ガスを膨張領域へ流通させるメインダクトと、メインダクトの領域にてメインダクトの外表面に一部が取り付けられ、当該カーテンエアバッグを側面部上方の側壁に固定するタブと、を備え、メインダクトは、メインダクトの上縁部をタブの少なくとも一部が取り付けられる位置よりも下方にして、側面部上方に収納されることを特徴とする。
 上記構成によれば、最も早期にガスの供給を受けるメインダクトが膨張する。そのメインダクト膨張中、メインダクト自体の領域に取り付けられたタブによって、上縁部を垂直上方向へ向けようとする動きが制限される。動きの制限されたメインダクトは、断面横長の車両内側に伸びる姿勢で膨張する。カーテンエアバッグは、早期に膨張するメインダクトによって、収納位置から車両内側に向かって、ピラートリムと干渉しない位置まで離れた後に、車両側面に沿って膨張展開する。このように本発明によれば、収納しやすい簡易な構成で、カーテンエアバッグの収納位置の下側に位置するピラートリムに干渉することを防ぐことができ、迅速に膨張展開するカーテンエアバッグを提供可能である。
 当該カーテンエアバッグは、メインダクトが膨張し側壁を押圧することによって、収納位置から、側壁を離脱する方向に向かって展開するとよい。
 上記構成によれば、当該カーテンエアバッグは、収納位置から側壁を離脱する方向に展開した後に、車両側面に沿って膨張展開する。収納位置の下側にピラートリムが存在しても、ピラートリムに干渉することを防ぐことができ、迅速に膨張展開することができる。
 メインダクトにおけるタブの少なくとも一部が取り付けられる位置から側壁へ固定される位置までの距離は、取り付けられる位置からメインダクトの上縁部までの距離よりも短いとよい。
 上記構成によれば、メインダクトの膨張時に、メインダクトが回転して上縁部を垂直上方向へ向けようとする動きが、より制限される。
 タブの少なくとも一部は、当該カーテンエアバッグを構成する基布の両面の接合箇所に取り付けられてもよい。両面の接合箇所からメインダクトの上縁部にかけて小形の経路が構成されるため、同じガス圧でも大径の経路より強固に膨張することができる。これに伴って、側壁の押圧も向上し、ピラートリムに干渉することなく迅速に押し出ることが可能となる。
 タブの一部は、当該カーテンエアバッグを構成する基布の片面に接合することでメインダクトの外表面に取り付けられてもよい。メインダクトは本来のサイズで膨張展開できるため、押出距離が長くなり、間隙の広いピラートリムであっても干渉することなく迅速に押し出ることが可能となる。
 タブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも下側の側壁に固定されてもよい。側壁のうち、ピラーの上方の領域ほど固定用のスペースが限られているところ、収納されているカーテンエアバッグよりも下側の領域であれば、比較的、固定用のスペースを確保しやすい場合があるからである。
 タブは、車両室内のピラー近傍において、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも下側の側壁に固定され、ピラー近傍以外では、当該カーテンエアバッグは、メインダクトより上部の非膨張領域に一部が取り付けられる他のタブをさらに備え、他のタブの端部は、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも上側の側壁に固定されてもよい。ピラー近傍以外では、収納されているカーテンエアバッグよりも上側の領域であっても固定用のスペースを確保しやすいからである。また、ピラー近傍以外では、カーテンエアバッグの重力方向にかかる負荷を支えているため、収納状態におけるカーテンエアバッグのたるみや揺動を防ぐことができる。
 タブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも上側の側壁に固定されてもよい。この構成により、カーテンエアバッグは、タブによって上から吊り下げられるため、タブを側壁に固定する際、カーテンエアバッグは上方のタブにとって邪魔にならない。したがってカーテンエアバッグの取付作業を簡易に行い得る。
 タブは、車両室内のピラー近傍において、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも上側の側壁に固定され、ピラー近傍以外では、当該カーテンエアバッグは、メインダクトより上部の非膨張領域に一部が取り付けられる他のタブをさらに備え、他のタブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも下側の側壁に固定されてもよい。
 上記構成によれば、仮にピラー近傍において、むしろ、収納されているカーテンエアバッグの上側の領域に固定用のスペースを確保しやすい場合に、取付作業がし易いからである。
 タブには、メインダクトが膨張する圧力によって破断する破断部が設けられてもよい。タブは、カーテンエアバッグの収納時(非展開時)にはこれを保持しつつ、カーテンエアバッグの展開時には破断する必要があるからである。
 破断部は、タブに形成される1本のメインスリットラインと、メインスリットラインの周囲に形成されるサブスリットラインと、を有してもよい。この構成により、破断部はタブにかかる負荷に対して脆弱となり、カーテンエアバッグの膨張による圧力を好適に利用して破断することができる。
 本発明によれば、収納しやすい簡易な構成で、収納位置の下側にピラートリムが存在しても、ピラートリムに干渉することなく迅速に膨張展開するカーテンエアバッグを提供することが可能となる。

 以下に添付図面を参照しながら、本発明の好適な実施形態について詳細に説明する。かかる実施形態に示す寸法、材料、その他具体的な数値などは、発明の理解を容易とするための例示に過ぎず、特に断る場合を除き、本発明を限定するものではない。なお、本明細書及び図面において、実質的に同一の機能、構成を有する要素については、同一の符号を付することにより重複説明を省略し、また本発明に直接関係のない要素は図示を省略する。
 [第1実施形態]
(カーテンエアバッグの取付位置)
 図1は、第1実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグの取付位置を例示する図である。図1(a)はカーテンエアバッグの非展開時、図1(b)はカーテンエアバッグの展開時をそれぞれ例示する。
 本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ200は、図1(a)のように、車両室内の側面部上方に収納することができる。カーテンエアバッグ200は、ルーフサイドレール112にタブ240によって取り付けられる。通常、車両室内の側面部には複数のピラーが存在している。これらピラーは車両100の前方から、フロントピラー(Aピラー114)、センターピラー(Bピラー116)、リアピラー(Cピラー118)と呼ばれる。各ピラーの車両室内側はクッション材等で構成されたピラートリムで覆われていて、車内の美観を向上させている。
 図1(b)に例示するように、車両100に側面衝突時やロールオーバ(横転)等が発生すると、まず車両100に備えられたセンサ(図示省略)からインフレータ204(図2)へ発火信号が発信される。そして、インフレータ204から膨張展開用ガスが供給されると、カーテンエアバッグ200は、ルーフトリム130(図5)を押しのけて車両室内の側面部に沿うように膨張展開する。
(カーテンエアバッグ)
 図2は、図1のカーテンエアバッグ200の展開状態を例示する図である。図2は、車両100の進行方向に向かって右側面部のカーテンエアバッグ200を車両室内側から見た状態で例示している。
 カーテンエアバッグ200は、例えば、その表面を構成する基布を表裏で縫製したり、OPW(One-Piece Woven)を用いて紡織したりすることにより袋状に形成される。
 カーテンエアバッグ200は、車両100の衝突時や横転時に膨張する膨張領域210と、膨張せず、膨張領域210を区画する非膨張領域220(図中ハッチングで示す)と、タブ240とから構成される。膨張領域210はさらに、ガス受給孔212、メインダクト214および複数のチャンバ216で構成されている。
 ガス受給孔212は、カーテンエアバッグ200の上部に設置され、インフレータ204から膨張展開用ガスの供給を受ける。ガス受給孔212が受給した膨張展開用ガスは、矢印で例示したように、ガス受給孔212の前後方向へ流れる。
 メインダクト214は、膨張展開用ガスを、ガス受給孔212から複数のチャンバ216へ流通させる通路となる。メインダクト214はカーテンエアバッグ200の上部にほぼ水平に配設されていて、膨張領域210を構成する複数のチャンバ216へ膨張展開用ガスを流通させる。
 複数のチャンバ216は、膨張展開用ガスの流入によって膨張し、衝突時等の非常事態において、乗員の頭部をサイドウィンドウ等への衝突から保護し、あるいはロールオーバ時に車外へ乗員が飛び出すのを防止する。本実施形態では、複数のチャンバ216は乗員の着座位置に対応して大きく2つの範囲に配置されていて、主に運転席の乗員を保護する前方領域と、主に後列座席の乗員を保護する後方領域に区別することができる。
 図3および図4は、図2のタブ240を説明する図である。図3および図4ではカーテンエアバッグ200の展開状態におけるタブ240を例示している。タブ240は異なるタイプのタブ240a、240bの総称である。
 タブ240は、カーテンエアバッグ200に取り付けられる帯状の部材であって、カーテンエアバッグ200を車両室内の側面部上方のルーフサイドレール112に固定する。タブ240は、当該カーテンエアバッグ200よりも上側の側壁に固定される。この構成により、カーテンエアバッグ200は、タブ240によって上から吊り下げられるため、タブ240を側壁に固定する際、カーテンエアバッグ200は上方のタブ240にとって邪魔にならない。したがってカーテンエアバッグ200の取付作業を簡易に行い得る。
 図3に示すように、タブ240の一部は、メインダクト214の外表面に縫付部(S1、S2)によって取り付けられている。タブ240の端部には2つの固定穴が配置され、取付部材246(図5)によってルーフサイドレール112に固定できる。なお、取付部材246としてはボルト等を用いることができ、さらにブラケット等の補助部材を備えてもよい。
 タブ240は、カーテンエアバッグ200の収納時において、図1(a)に示したように上下方向に巻回したカーテンエアバッグ200の周囲に巻き付いて、両端をルーフサイドレール112に固定されることにより、カーテンエアバッグ200を保持する。
 図4に示すように、タブ240には、メインダクトが膨張する圧力によって破断する破断部244が設けられている。タブ240は、カーテンエアバッグ200の収納時(非展開時)にはこれを保持しつつ、カーテンエアバッグ200の展開時には破断する必要があるからである。
 破断部244は、タブ240に形成される1本のメインスリットライン244aと、メインスリットライン244aの周囲に形成されるサブスリットライン244bと、を有している。メインスリットライン244aおよびサブスリットライン244bは、互いの切込がタブ240の長手方向に交互に位置するようにして並設されている。そのため、破断部244は、特にタブ240の長手方向にかかる負荷に対して脆弱であり、カーテンエアバッグ200の膨張による圧力を好適に利用して破断できる。
 タブ240は、カーテンエアバッグ200を構成する基布と同様の布を用いて成形することができる。例えば、カーテンエアバッグ200の製造時に発生する基布の余剰部分から成形することで、製造コストの増大を防ぐことができる。なお、図2においては、4個のタブ240を例示しているが、この数に限るものではなく、車種等に合わせて適宜変更してよい。
 本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ200は、2種類のタブ240a、240bを備えている。タブ240aは、ピラー近傍P(図11)以外に配置されるタブであり、縫付部S1によってメインダクト214より上部の非膨張領域220に取り付けられる。他方、本実施形態の特徴をなすタブ240bは、ピラー近傍Pに配置されるタブであり、縫付部S2によってメインダクト214の外表面の一部に配設される。
 図11は図1の一部の拡大図である。ピラー近傍Pは、図11に例示するように、Bピラー116のピラーガーニッシュの前後50mm程度の範囲を指す。したがって「ピラー近傍Pに配置される」タブ240bは、少なくともその一部が、ピラー近傍Pの範囲に入っている。
 ただしピラー近傍Pの範囲は一例にすぎず、車両のレイアウトによっては、ピラーガーニッシュの前後100mm以上離れた範囲まで、「ピラー近傍」に含めてよい。
 図12は図2の一部の拡大図である。図12(a)は正面図であり、図12(b)は図12(a)の右側面図である。図12(a)に例示するように、タブ240bの縫付部S2は上述のようにメインダクト214の外表面に位置する。カーテンエアバッグ200の表裏の基布の内側には2枚の補強パッチ250が当てられている。図12(a)に例示するように、略楕円形の補強パッチ250の内側には、補強パッチ250をそれぞれ基布に縫い付ける縫製ラインL1がある。
 補強パッチ250の中央にはさらに長円形状の縫製ラインL2があり、これは、カーテンエアバッグ200の表裏の基布を補強パッチごと貫いて縫製している。したがって長円形状の縫製ラインL2の内部は、図12(b)に例示するように、膨張展開用ガスが侵入不能な非膨張領域である。タブ240bの縫付部S2は、図12(a)に例示するように、この非膨張領域の内部に位置するため、エアバッグ200の膨張による力が作用しにくく、タブ240bはエアバッグ200から外れにくい構造となっている。
(カーテンエアバッグの動作)
 図5は図2のカーテンエアバッグ200の膨張展開の初期動作を説明する図である。図5は車両100に取り付けたカーテンエアバッグ200のタブ240bの位置における断面図である。
 図5(a)に示すように、カーテンエアバッグ200は、ルーフトリム130の内側であって、車両室内の側面部上方のルーフサイドレール140に取り付けることができる。このとき、カーテンエアバッグ200は、メインダクト214の上縁部218を、タブ240bの取付位置である縫付部S2よりも下方にして取り付ける。
 収納状態のカーテンエアバッグ200にインフレータ204(図2)から膨張展開用ガスが供給されると、図5(b)に示すように、まずカーテンエアバッグ200の膨張に伴ってタブ240bの破断部244が破断する。このとき、カーテンエアバッグ200の膨張は、ガス受給孔212に直接繋がっているメインダクト214の上縁側から発生する。ピラー近傍Pにおいてはピラーとピラートリム120の間に間隙が形成されているため、カーテンエアバッグ200が収納位置から下方に向けて膨張展開すると、カーテンエアバッグ200が間隙に引っかかり、展開が遅れる、または展開できなくなるおそれがある。
 しかし、本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ200では、メインダクト214が膨張すると、メインダクト214は自体の領域に取り付けられたタブ240bによって、膨張中、上縁部218を垂直上方向へ向けようとする動きが制限される。したがってメインダクト214は、断面縦長でなく、断面横長の車両内側に伸びる姿勢で膨張する。
 縫付部S2は、カーテンエアバッグ200を構成する基布の両面を縫合して(接合して)メインダクト214の外表面に取り付けられているため、縫付部S2からメインダクト214の上縁部218にかけて小形の経路230が構成される。その小形の経路230が膨張展開することによって小形の経路230より車両下方にある部分が押圧される。このように膨張するメインダクト214によって、カーテンエアバッグ200は収納位置からルーフサイドレール112を離脱する方向に所定の距離だけ離れた後に、車両側面に沿って膨張展開する。このとき、ルーフサイドレール140からの離脱方向に存在するルーフトリム130はカーテンエアバッグ200によって圧迫される。
 このように、カーテンエアバッグ200によるルーフトリム130の圧迫によって、ルーフトリム130とピラートリム120との間に開口部E1が生じる。図5(c)に示すように、カーテンエアバッグ200は、開口部E1から下方に向かって膨張展開することが可能となる。
 上記構成によれば、本実施形態におけるカーテンエアバッグ200は、本来であれば収納位置から真下に膨張展開するところを、タブ240bの縫付部S2がメインダクトの214の領域に存在していることにより、収納位置から車両内側に向かって、ピラートリム120と干渉しない位置まで離れた後に、車両側面に沿って膨張展開する。このように本実施形態によれば、収納しやすい簡易な構成で、カーテンエアバッグ200の収納位置の下側に位置するピラートリム120に干渉することを防ぐことができ、迅速に膨張展開できる。
 図3に例示したように、タブ240bには2つの固定穴がある。それらのうち、縫付部S2との間に破断部244を有しないほうの固定穴A1から、縫付部S2までの距離D2は、縫付部S2からメインダクト214の上縁部218までの距離D1よりも短い。したがって、図5の縫付部S2~取付部材246間(図3における短距離D2に対応)の距離は、縫付部S2~上縁部218間の距離(図3における長距離D1に対応)より短い。膨張展開時、メインダクト214は時計回りに回転して上縁部218を垂直上方向へ向けようとする。すなわち断面アーモンド形の経路230には、上縁部218を回転しながら垂直上方向へ向けようとする力学的作用が発生する。
 しかし、かかる回転が生じると、上記の距離差があることにより、タブ240bの縫付部S2~取付部材246間(図3における短距離D2に対応)の部分に張力が発生する。このタブ240bの縫付部S2~取付部材246間は張力を保った状態で、縫付部S2にてタブ240bに縫い付けられているメインダクト214のそれ以上の回転動作を制限する。よって、メインダクト214は、断面横長の車両内側に伸びる姿勢で膨張する。
 図13は第1実施形態の変形例を例示する図である。第1実施形態では図11に例示するようにピラー近傍Pに1つのタブが配置されているが、変形例では、図13のように、ピラーガーニッシュの前後に1つずつ同種のタブ240bを設ける。
 図14は図13のA-A断面にて、変形例のカーテンエアバッグ200の膨張展開の初期動作を説明する図である。なお前後にずれたタブ240bおよび取付部材246は、図14でも実体として見えるが、ピラー位置にはないので、図示の便宜上、破線で示している。
 図14に例示するように、ピラーガーニッシュ前後の2つのタブ240bの位置には、それぞれ二点鎖線で示す小形の経路230が形成される。2つのタブ240b間には、小径の経路230の形態に影響されて、類似した形態のチャンバ231が形成される。このチャンバ231がピラー位置においてメインダクト214を車両内側に向かって伸ばすため、図13のようにピラー近傍Pに2つのタブ240bが配置されていなくても、メインダクト214は、車両内側に伸びるという効果を奏する。また、同種のタブ240bの設置箇所が多くなることで、より安定した挙動で展開することとなる。
 [第2実施形態]
 図6は、本発明の第2実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ300を説明する図である。図6は、図5と同様に、車両100に取り付けたカーテンエアバッグ300のタブ240bの位置における断面を例示する。第1実施形態では、カーテンエアバッグ200を構成する基布の両面を縫合してタブ240bをメインダクト214の外表面に取り付けていた。他方、本第2実施形態では、タブ240bは、カーテンエアバッグ300を構成する基布の片面に接合する(縫い付ける)ことでメインダクト214の外表面に取り付けている。
 図6(a)に例示するように、収納状態のカーテンエアバッグ300にインフレータ204(図2)から膨張展開用ガスが供給されると、まず、カーテンエアバッグ200の膨張に伴ってタブ240bの破断部244が破断する(図6(b))。
 本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ300においても、図6(b)に例示するように、メインダクト214が膨張すると、メインダクト214は自体の領域に取り付けられたタブ240bによって、膨張中、上縁部218を垂直上方向へ向けようとする動きが制限される。したがってメインダクト214は、断面縦長でなく、断面横長の車両内側に伸びる姿勢で膨張し、図6(c)に例示するように、第1の実施形態と同様の効果を奏する。
 このとき、縫付部S3が片面に存在しているため、メインダクト214は本来のサイズで膨張展開することができる。これにより、カーテンエアバッグ300は、押出距離をより長くすることができ、間隙の広いピラートリムであっても干渉を防ぎ開口部E1から下方に向かって迅速に膨張展開することが可能となる。
 [第3実施形態]
 本発明にかかるカーテンエアバッグの第3実施形態について説明する。なお、上記第1実施形態または第2実施形態と説明の重複する部分については同一の符号を付して説明を省略する。
 上記の第1実施形態では、タブ240はカーテンエアバッグ200よりも上側のルーフサイドレール112に固定されていた(図1(a))。しかし、一般的にルーフトリム130の内側は非常に限られたスペースであるため、ルーフサイドレール112への取付位置の確保が難しい場合がある。しかし、本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグは、タブ240bをカーテンエアバックの上側だけでなく、下側にも固定できる。
 図7は、本発明の第3実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグの取付位置を例示する図である。図7は、カーテンエアバッグ400の非展開時を例示している。図7に例示するように、本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ400は、各ピラー近傍Pにおいて(例として、Bピラー116およびCピラー118近傍)、カーテンエアバッグ400の下側のルーフサイドレール112に固定したタブ240cを有している。
 なお、図7に例示するように、カーテンエアバッグ400は、ピラー近傍P以外のタブ240aをカーテンエアバッグ400よりも上側の側壁に固定している。ピラー近傍P以外では、収納されているカーテンエアバッグ400よりも上側の領域であっても固定用のスペースを確保しやすいからである。また、ピラー近傍P以外では、カーテンエアバッグ400の重力方向にかかる負荷を支えているため、一部に下側に固定したタブ240cを有していても、収納状態におけるカーテンエアバッグ400のたるみや揺動を防ぐことができる。
 また、カーテンエアバッグ400は、すべてのタブを、タブ240cのように、自体の下側のルーフサイドレールに固定してもよい。ルーフサイドレール112のうち、ピラーの上方の領域ほど固定用のスペースが限られているところ、収納されているカーテンエアバッグ400よりも下側の領域であれば、比較的、固定用のスペースを確保しやすいからである。
 図8は、図7のタブ240cを説明する図である。本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ400は、2種類のタブ240a、240cを備えている。タブ240cは、ピラー近傍P(例として、Bピラー116およびCピラー118近傍)に配置されるタブ240である。タブ240cは、縫付部S4によってメインダクト214の外表面の一部に配設されている。
 タブ240cには2つの固定穴がある。それらのうち、縫付部S4との間に破断部248を有しないほうの固定穴A2から、縫付部S4までの距離D4は、縫付部S4からメインダクト214の上縁部218までの距離D3よりも短い。なお、破断部248は、破断部244の構成と同様であり、破断部244と同様の効果を奏する。
 図9は、図7のカーテンエアバッグ400の膨張展開の初期動作を説明する図である。図9は車両100に取り付けたカーテンエアバッグ400のタブ240cの位置における断面図である。
 図9(a)に例示するように、カーテンエアバッグ400は、自体の下側のルーフサイドレール112に固定したタブ240cを備えている。このとき、カーテンエアバッグ400は、メインダクト214の上縁部218を、タブ240cの取付位置である縫付部S4よりも下方にして取り付ける。
 収納状態のカーテンエアバッグ400にインフレータ204(図2)から膨張展開用ガスが供給されると、図9(b)に例示するように、まずカーテンエアバッグ400の膨張に伴ってタブ240cの破断部248が破断する。そして、メインダクト214にかかる時計回りの回転は、タブ240cのうちの縫付部S4~取付部材246間(短距離D4に対応)の部分に張力が発生することにより、それ以上の回転動作が制限される。
 本実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグ400においても、メインダクト214は、それ自体の領域に取り付けられたタブ240cによって、膨張中、上縁部218を垂直上方向へ向けようとする動きが制限される。メインダクト214は、断面縦長でなく、断面横長の車両内側に伸びる姿勢で膨張し、図9(c)に例示するように、第1の実施形態と同様の効果を奏する。
 そして、カーテンエアバッグ400は、縫付部S4から上縁部218にかけて構成される小形の経路230によって、収納位置から車両内側に所定の距離だけ離れ、ルーフトリム130を圧迫する。これにより、開口部E1が生じ、図9(c)に例示するように、カーテンエアバッグ400は開口部E1から下方に向かって膨張展開することが可能となる。
 上記構成によれば、本実施形態におけるカーテンエアバッグ400においても、タブ240cの縫付部S4がメインダクトの214の領域に存在していることにより、収納位置から車両内側に向かって、ピラートリム120と干渉しない位置まで離れた後に、車両側面に沿って膨張展開する。このように本実施形態におけるカーテンエアバッグ400によっても、収納しやすい簡易な構成で、カーテンエアバッグ400の収納位置の下側に位置するピラートリム120に干渉することなく迅速に膨張展開できる。
 また上記では、カーテンエアバッグ400を構成する基布の両面を縫合してタブ240cをメインダクト214の外表面に取り付けているが、これに限らず、第1実施形態と同様に、タブ240cは、カーテンエアバッグ400を構成する基布の片面に縫い付けることでメインダクト214の外表面に取り付けてもよい。
 [第4実施形態]
 本発明にかかるカーテンエアバッグの第4実施形態について説明する。なお、上記の実施形態と説明の重複する部分については同一の符号を付して説明を省略する。
 図10は、本発明の第4実施形態にかかるカーテンエアバッグの取付位置を例示する図である。図10に例示するように、カーテンエアバッグ500は、各ピラー近傍Pにおいて、カーテンエアバッグ500の上側に固定したタブ240aを有し、ピラー近傍P以外ではカーテンエアバッグ500よりも下側の側壁に固定したタブ240cを有している。この構成によれば、仮にピラー近傍Pにおいて、むしろ、収納されているカーテンエアバッグ500の上側の領域に固定用のスペースを確保しやすい場合に、取付作業がし易いからである。そして、本実施形態においても、上記実施形態と同様の効果を奏することができる。
 以上、添付図面を参照しながら本発明の好適な実施形態について説明したが、以上に述べた実施形態は、本発明の好ましい例であって、これ以外の実施態様も、各種の方法で実施または遂行できる。特に本願明細書中に限定される主旨の記載がない限り、この発明は、添付図面に示した詳細な部品の形状、大きさ、および構成配置等に制約されるものではない。また、本願明細書の中に用いられた表現および用語は、説明を目的としたもので、特に限定される主旨の記載がない限り、それに限定されるものではない。
 したがって、当業者であれば、特許請求の範囲に記載された範疇内において、各種の変更例または修正例に想到し得ることは明らかであり、それらについても当然に本発明の技術的範囲に属するものと了解される。
 例えば、本発明にかかるカーテンエアバッグは、換言すると、車両室内の側面部上方に収納されるカーテンエアバッグであって、当該カーテンエアバッグの上部に位置し、膨張展開用ガスを膨張領域へ流通させるメインダクトと、上記メインダクトの上縁部から内側に所定距離離れた位置に取り付けられ、そのメインダクトが膨張する圧力によって破断する破断部を有し、当該カーテンエアバッグを巻回して両端を上記車輌室内の側面部上方の側壁に固定する帯状のタブと、を備え、上記メインダクトの上縁部は、そのメインダクトが膨張する際に上記タブの上記側壁に対する固定位置よりも下方にあることを特徴としてもよい。
 また、上記実施形態においては本発明にかかるカーテンエアバッグを自動車に適用した例を説明したが、自動車以外にも航空機や船舶などに適用することも可能であり、同様の作用効果を得ることができる。
 本発明は、車両の側面衝突時やロールオーバ(横転)時に、乗員保護を目的として車両室内の側面部に沿って膨張展開するカーテンエアバッグに利用することができる。

Claims (11)

  1.  車両室内の側面部上方に収納されるカーテンエアバッグであって、
     当該カーテンエアバッグの上部に位置し、膨張展開用ガスを膨張領域へ流通させるメインダクトと、
     前記メインダクトの領域にて該メインダクトの外表面に一部が取り付けられ、当該カーテンエアバッグを前記側面部上方の側壁に固定するタブと、
    を備え、
     前記メインダクトは、該メインダクトの上縁部を前記タブの少なくとも一部が取り付けられる位置よりも下方にして、前記側面部上方に収納されることを特徴とするカーテンエアバッグ。
  2.  当該カーテンエアバッグは、前記メインダクトが膨張し前記側壁を押圧することによって、収納位置から、該側壁を離脱する方向に向かって展開することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  3.  前記メインダクトにおける前記タブの少なくとも一部が取り付けられる位置から前記側壁へ固定される位置までの距離は、該取り付けられる位置から該メインダクトの上縁部までの距離よりも短いことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  4.  前記タブの少なくとも一部は、当該カーテンエアバッグを構成する基布の両面の接合箇所に取り付けられることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  5.  前記タブの一部は、当該カーテンエアバッグを構成する基布の片面に接合することで前記メインダクトの外表面に取り付けられることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  6.  前記タブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも下側の前記側壁に固定されることを特徴とする請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  7.  前記タブは、前記車両室内のピラー近傍において、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも下側の前記側壁に固定され、
     前記ピラー近傍以外では、当該カーテンエアバッグは、前記メインダクトより上部の非膨張領域に一部が取り付けられる他のタブをさらに備え、該他のタブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも上側の前記側壁に固定されることを特徴とする請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  8.  前記タブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも上側の前記側壁に固定されることを特徴とする請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  9.  前記タブは、前記車両室内のピラー近傍において、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも上側の前記側壁に固定され、
     前記ピラー近傍以外では、当該カーテンエアバッグは、前記メインダクトより上部の非膨張領域に一部が取り付けられる他のタブをさらに備え、該他のタブは、当該カーテンエアバッグよりも下側の前記側壁に固定されることを特徴とする請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  10.  前記タブには、前記メインダクトが膨張する圧力によって破断する破断部が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1から9のいずれか1項に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
  11.  前記破断部は、前記タブに形成される1本のメインスリットラインと、該メインスリットラインの周囲に形成されるサブスリットラインと、を有すること特徴とする請求項10に記載のカーテンエアバッグ。
