Abstract
Description
しかしながら、このようなシール剤を用いて作製した液晶表示素子を常温で長期間放置したり、高温高湿下に曝したりした後に駆動評価を行うと、硬化物中に取り込まれていた光重合開始剤の残渣や未反応物が液晶パネル内に染み出してくることによって、液晶表示素子の作製時にはなかった色ムラ等の表示不良が発生することがあるという問題があった。
以下に本発明を詳述する。
上記ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド及びビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドは、高極性かつ高融点の化合物であるため、後述するメタクリル基を有する樹脂との相溶性に優れ、液晶汚染性を低くすることができる。
上記光重合開始剤は、ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド及び/又はビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドからなることが好ましい。
上記ビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドのうち、市販されているものとしては、例えば、IRGACURE819(BASF Japan社製)等が挙げられる。
上記硬化性樹脂は、メタクリル基を有する樹脂を50重量%以上含有する。
上記メタクリル基を有する樹脂は上記ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド及びビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドと極性が近いため相溶性に優れ、光重合開始剤として上記ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド及びビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドを配合するとともに、上記メタクリル基を有する樹脂を、硬化性樹脂全体の50重量%以上となるように配合することにより、本発明の液晶滴下工法用シール剤を用いて製造される液晶表示素子は、長期間放置したり、高温高湿下に曝したりしても、優れた表示品質を維持することができる。
上記メタクリル基を有する樹脂は特に限定されず、例えば、メタクリル酸に水酸基を有する化合物を反応させることにより得られるエステル化合物、メタクリル酸とエポキシ化合物とを反応させることにより得られるエポキシメタクリレート化合物、イソシアネートに水酸基を有するメタクリル酸誘導体を反応させることにより得られるウレタンメタクリレート化合物等が挙げられる。なかでも液晶非汚染性に優れることから、エポキシメタクリレート化合物が好適である。
上記ビスフェノールF型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、jER806、jER4004(いずれも三菱化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ビスフェノールS型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、エピクロンEXA1514(DIC社製)等が挙げられる。
上記2,2’-ジアリルビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、RE-810NM(日本化薬社製)等が挙げられる。
上記水添ビスフェノール型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、エピクロンEXA7015(DIC社製)等が挙げられる。
上記プロピレンオキシド付加ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、EP-4000S(ADEKA社製)等が挙げられる。
上記レゾルシノール型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、EX-201(ナガセケムテックス社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ビフェニル型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、jERYX-4000H(三菱化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記スルフィド型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、YSLV-50TE(新日鐵化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ジフェニルエーテル型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、YSLV-80DE(新日鐵化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ジシクロペンタジエン型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、EP-4088S(ADEKA社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ナフタレン型エポキシ樹脂としては、例えば、エピクロンHP4032、エピクロンEXA-4700(いずれもDIC社製)等が挙げられる。
上記フェノールノボラック型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、エピクロンN-770(DIC社製)等が挙げられる。
上記オルトクレゾールノボラック型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、エピクロンN-670-EXP-S(DIC社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ジシクロペンタジエンノボラック型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、エピクロンHP7200(DIC社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ビフェニルノボラック型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、NC-3000P(日本化薬社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ナフタレンフェノールノボラック型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、ESN-165S(新日鐵化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記グリシジルアミン型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、jER630(三菱化学社製)、エピクロン430(DIC社製)、TETRAD-X(三菱ガス化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記アルキルポリオール型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、ZX-1542(新日鐵化学社製)、エピクロン726(DIC社製)、エポライト80MFA(共栄社化学社製)、デナコールEX-611、(ナガセケムテックス社製)等が挙げられる。上記ゴム変性型エポキシ樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、YR-450、YR-207(いずれも新日鐵化学社製)、エポリードPB(ダイセル化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記グリシジルエステル化合物のうち市販されている化合物としては、例えば、デナコールEX-147(ナガセケムテックス社製)等が挙げられる。
上記ビスフェノールA型エピスルフィド樹脂のうち市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、jERYL-7000(三菱化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記エポキシ樹脂のうちその他に市販されている樹脂としては、例えば、YDC-1312、YSLV-80XY、YSLV-90CR(いずれも新日鐵化学社製)、XAC4151(旭化成社製)、jER1031、jER1032(いずれも三菱化学社製)、EXA-7120(DIC社製)、TEPIC(日産化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記部分メタクリル変性エポキシ樹脂を用いた場合には、残存するエポキシ基によって高い接着性を発揮することができる。ただし、エポキシ基の残量が多くなれば液晶汚染性が高まる。従って、液晶非汚染性の点からは完全メタクリル変性エポキシ樹脂を用いることが好ましい。
上記部分メタクリル変性エポキシ樹脂を用いる場合には、必要とされる接着力と液晶非汚染性とを考慮したうえで、その配合量やエポキシ基残量を調整する必要がある。上記部分メタクリル変性エポキシ樹脂を用いる場合の上記部分メタクリル変性エポキシ樹脂の好ましい配合比は、上記メタクリル基を有する樹脂全体に対して10~50重量%である。
上記エポキシメタクリレート化合物のうち、市販されているものとしては、例えば、エポキシエステル40EM、エポキシエステル3000M、エポキシエステル3002M(共栄社化学社製)等が挙げられる。
また、上記メタクリル基を有する樹脂は、反応性の高さから分子中にメタクリル基を2~3個有するものが好ましい。
更に、上記メタクリル基を有する樹脂は、上記光重合開始剤との相溶性により優れたものとなることから、エチレンオキサイド変性又はプロピレンオキサイド変性したものであることが好適である。
上記エポキシ基を有する樹脂は特に限定されず、上述したエポキシメタクリレートを合成するための原料となるエポキシ化合物と同様のものを用いることができる。
上記硬化性樹脂中における上記アクリル基を有する樹脂の含有量の上限は50重量%である。上記アクリル基を有する樹脂の含有量が50重量%を超えると、アクリル基にはメタクリル基のメチル基のような反応性二重結合を保護する置換基がないために室温で熱硬化反応が起こりやすく、得られる液晶滴下工法用シール剤がポットライフに劣るものとなったり、光重合開始剤として配合する上記ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド又は上記ビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドと硬化性樹脂との相溶性が悪くなるために硬化後でも室温で放置していると上記光重合開始剤が溶出して液晶汚染を引き起こし、得られる液晶表示素子に色ムラが発生したりする。上記アクリル基を有する樹脂の含有量の好ましい下限は10重量%である。
上記固形の有機酸ヒドラジドは特に限定されず、例えば、セバシン酸ジヒドラジド、イソフタル酸ジヒドラジド、アジピン酸ジヒドラジド等が挙げられ、市販されているものとしては、例えば、アミキュアVDH、アミキュアVDH-J、アミキュアUDH(いずれも、味の素ファインテクノ社製)、ADH(大塚化学社製)等が挙げられる。
上記フィラーは特に限定されず、例えば、タルク、石綿、シリカ、珪藻土、スメクタイト、ベントナイト、炭酸カルシウム、炭酸マグネシウム、アルミナ、モンモリロナイト、珪藻土、酸化亜鉛、酸化鉄、酸化マグネシウム、酸化錫、酸化チタン、水酸化マグネシウム、水酸化アルミニウム、ガラスビーズ、窒化珪素、硫酸バリウム、石膏、珪酸カルシウム、セリサイト活性白土、窒化アルミニウム等の無機フィラーや、ポリエステル微粒子、ポリウレタン微粒子、ビニル重合体微粒子、アクリル重合体微粒子等の有機フィラー等が挙げられる。
液状のビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(三菱化学社製、「jER828EL」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸506重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、メタクリル変性ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂A)を得た。
液状のビスフェノールF型エポキシ樹脂(DIC社製、「エピクロン830S」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸551重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、メタクリル変性ビスフェノールF型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂B)を得た。
液状のビスフェノールE型エポキシ樹脂(三井化学社製、「エポミックR710」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸528重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、メタクリル変性ビスフェノールE型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂C)を得た。
液状のスルフィド型エポキシ樹脂(新日鐵化学社製、「YSLV-50TE」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸521重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、メタクリル変性スルフィド型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂D)を得た。
液状のジフェニルエーテル型エポキシ樹脂(新日鐵化学社製、「YSLV-80DE」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸548重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、メタクリル変性エーテル型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂E)を得た。
液状のレゾルシン型エポキシ樹脂(ナガセケムテックス社製、「デナコールEX-201」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸775重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、メタクリル変性レゾルシン型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂F)を得た。
液状のフェノールノボラック型エポキシ樹脂(DIC社製、「N-740」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸253重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、50%部分メタクリル変性フェノールノボラック型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂G)を得た。
液状のビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(三菱化学社製、「jER828EL」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、及び、メタクリル酸253重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、50%部分メタクリル変性ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂H)を得た。

液状のビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(三菱化学社製、「jER828EL」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、アクリル酸424重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、アクリル変性ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂M)を得た。
液状のレゾルシン型エポキシ樹脂(ナガセケムテックス社製、「デナコールEX-201」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、アクリル酸649重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、アクリル変性レゾルシン型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂N)を得た。
液状のビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(三菱化学社製、「jER828EL」)1000重量部、重合禁止剤としてp-メトキシフェノール2重量部、反応触媒としてトリエチルアミン2重量部、アクリル酸212重量部を、空気を送り込みながら90℃で5時間還流攪拌して反応させた。得られた樹脂100重量部を、反応物中のイオン性不純物を吸着させる為にクオルツとカオリンの天然結合物(ホフマンミネラル社製、「シリチンV85」)10重量部が充填されたカラムで濾過し、50%部分アクリル変性ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(硬化性樹脂O)を得た。
硬化性樹脂として、硬化性樹脂A80重量部及び硬化性樹脂G20重量部をそれぞれ所定の容器に配合し、遊星式攪拌装置にて混合攪拌した後、光重合開始剤としてジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド(BASF Japan社製、「DAROCUR TPO」)1.2重量部を配合した後加熱溶解させ、シランカップリング剤(信越シリコーン社製、「KBM-403」)1重量部を混合攪拌し、シリカ(アドマテックス社製、「SO-C2」)10重量部、熱硬化剤(味の素ファインテクノ社製、「アミキュアVDH-J」)5重量部を混合攪拌した後、セラミックス3本ロールミルにて分散させることによって、シール剤を得た。
用いた材料及び配合量を表1~3に示したものとしたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして液晶滴下工法用シール剤を得た。
なお、表1~3中、硬化性樹脂Pとしては液状のビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂(三菱化学社製、「jER828EL」)を用いた。また、表1~4中の「IRGACURE 819」はBASF Japan社製のビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドであり、「IRGACURE 651」はBASF Japan社製の2,2-ジメトキシ-1,2-ジフェニルエタン-1-オンであり、「IRGACURE 369」はBASF Japan社製の2-ベンジル-2-ジメチルアミノ-1-(4-モルフォリノフェニル)-1-ブタノンであり、「IRGACURE 2959」はBASF Japan社製の1-[4-(2-ヒドロキシエトキシ)-フェニル]-2-ヒドロキシ-2-メチル-1-プロパン-1-オンであり、「KIP-150」はランバーティ社製のポリ[2-ヒドロキシ-2-メチル-(4-(1-メチルビニル)フェニル)プロパノン]である。
実施例1~28及び比較例1~9で得られたシール剤について以下の評価を行った。結果を表1~3に示した。
実施例1~28及び比較例1~9で得られたシール剤をディスペンス用のシリンジ(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「PSY-10E」)に充填し、脱泡処理を行ってから、ディスペンサー(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「SHOTMASTER300」)にてITO薄膜付きの透明電極基板に長方形の枠を描く様にシール剤を塗布した。続いて、TN液晶(チッソ社製、「JC-5001LA」)の微小滴を液晶滴下装置にて滴下塗布し、他方の透明基板を、真空張り合わせ装置にて5Paの真空下にて張り合わせた。張り合わせた後のセルに3000mJ/cm2の紫外線を照射してシール剤を仮硬化させた後、120℃のオーブンにて60分間シール剤を熱硬化させた。得られたセルを25℃、50%RHの環境下で3ヶ月間保管した後、AC3.5Vの電圧駆動をさせ、中間調のシール剤周辺を目視し、シール剤周辺に色ムラが全く見られない場合を「◎」、色ムラが微かに見える場合を「○」、少しの色ムラが見える場合を「△」、色ムラがはっきりと分かる場合を「×」として評価した。
実施例1~28及び比較例1~9で得られたシール剤をディスペンス用のシリンジ(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「PSY-10E」)に充填し、脱泡処理を行ってから、ディスペンサー(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「SHOTMASTER300」)にてITO薄膜付きの透明電極基板に長方形の枠を描く様にシール剤を塗布した。続いて、TN液晶(チッソ社製、「JC-5001LA」)の微小滴を液晶滴下装置にて滴下塗布し、他方の透明基板を、真空張り合わせ装置にて5Paの真空下にて張り合わせた。張り合わせた後のセルに3000mJ/cm2の紫外線を照射してシール剤を仮硬化させた後、120℃のオーブンにて60分間シール剤を熱硬化させた。このセルを80℃、90%RHの環境下で36時間保管した後、AC3.5Vの電圧駆動をさせ、中間調のシール剤周辺を目視し、シール剤周辺に色ムラが全く見られない場合を「◎」、色ムラが微かに見える場合を「○」、少しの色ムラが見える場合を「△」、色ムラがはっきりと分かる場合を「×」として評価した。
実施例1~28及び比較例1~9で得られたシール剤をディスペンス用のシリンジ(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「PSY-10E」)に充填し、脱泡処理を行ってからE型粘度計(ブルックフィールド社製、「DV-III」)を用いて、25℃において1.0rpmの条件で粘度を測定した(V1)。上記のシリンジを温度25℃湿度50%の恒温恒湿環境下に48時間放置した後、同様に25℃において1.0rpmの条件で粘度を測定した(V2)。V2をV1で除した値を算出し、この値が1.0以上1.1未満である場合を「◎」、1.1以上1.2未満の場合を「○」、1.2以上1.3未満の場合を「△」、1.3以上の場合を「×」として評価した。
実施例1~28及び比較例1~9で得られたシール剤に、シリカスペーサー(積水化学工業社製、「SI-H055」)を1重量%配合し、2枚のITO膜付きアルカリガラス試験片(30×40mm)のうち一方に微小滴下し、これにもう一方のガラス試験片を十字状に張り合わせたものを、メタルハライドランプにて3000mJ/cm2の紫外線を照射した後、120℃で60分加熱することによって接着試験片を得た。これを上下に配したチャックにて引っ張り試験(5mm/sec)を行った。得られた測定値(kgf)をシール塗布断面積(cm2)で除した値が60kgf/cm2以上である場合を「○」、30kgf/cm2以上60kgf/cm2未満である場合を「△」、30kgf/cm2未満である場合を「×」として評価した。
実施例1で得られたシール剤100重量部、金で被覆された導電性微粒子(積水化学工業社製、「AUB20525」)1.5重量部をそれぞれ所定の容器に配合し、遊星式攪拌装置にて混合攪拌した後、ディスペンス用のシリンジ(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「PSY-10E」)に充填し、脱泡処理を行ってから、ディスペンサー(武蔵エンジニアリング社製、「SHOTMASTER300」)にてITO薄膜付きの透明電極基板に長方形の枠を描く様にシール剤を塗布した。他方のITO薄膜付き透明電極基板を、真空張り合わせ装置にて5Paの真空下にて張り合わせた。張り合わせた後のセルに3000mJ/cm2の紫外線を照射してシール剤を仮硬化させた後、120℃のオーブンにて60分間シール剤を熱硬化させた。このセルの上下基板にそれぞれ電極を取り付けた後、テスタにて電極間の抵抗値を測定して上下導通評価を行った。抵抗値が5Ω以下である場合を「◎」、5Ωより大きく7Ω以下である場合を「○」、7Ωより大きく8Ω以下である場合を「△」、8Ωより大きい場合を「×」として評価した。結果を表4に示した。
Claims (5)
- 硬化性樹脂と光重合開始剤とを含有する液晶滴下工法用シール剤であって、
前記硬化性樹脂は、メタクリル基を有する樹脂を含有し、
前記硬化性樹脂中のメタクリル基を有する樹脂の含有量が50重量%以上であり、
前記光重合開始剤は、ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド及び/又はビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドを含有する
ことを特徴とする液晶滴下工法用シール剤。 - ジフェニル-2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイルホスフィンオキシド及び/又はビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)-フェニルホスフィンオキシドの含有量が、硬化性樹脂100重量部に対して1.7重量部以下であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2記載の液晶滴下工法用シール剤。
- 請求項1、2又は3記載の液晶滴下工法用シール剤と導電性微粒子とを含有することを特徴とする上下導通材料。
- 請求項1、2又は3記載の液晶滴下工法用シール剤及び/又は請求項4記載の上下導通材料を用いてなることを特徴とする液晶表示素子。
