 照明装置の一実施形態である光源ユニット(210)において、発光素子ピッチをP[mm]、発光素子(212,…)の原稿(G)への光軸距離をH[mm]とすると、発光素子(212,…)による原稿(G)の光照射面(Gs)での主走査方向(X)の明暗の繰り返しを示す照度周期(T)において照度最大値(L1)から照度最小値(L2)を差し引いた値を照度平均値(L3)で割ったムラ[%](M)(=(L1-L2)/L3[%])と、照度周期(T)の半周期であるムラ間距離[mm](N)とがM≦N/2-5.5の関係、さらに好ましくは、M≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように発光素子ピッチ(P)及び光軸距離(H)が設定される。

Description

照明装置、画像読取装置及び画像形成装置
 本発明は、原稿を照明する照明装置、画像読取装置及び画像形成装置に関する。
 複写機、ファクシミリ装置及びデジタル複合機等の画像形成装置に備えられる画像読取装置や、ネットワーク等の通信手段を介してコンピュータに接続される画像読取装置においては、一般的に、光源を有する照明装置によって照明された原稿からの反射光を原稿画像として読み取るようになっている。
 例えば、従来の画像読取装置として、原稿台ガラス上に載置された原稿を照明する光源と第1ミラーとを配置した照明装置と、第2ミラー及び第3ミラーと、結像レンズと、撮像素子(例えば、CCD(Charge Coupled Device)等のラインセンサ)とを備え、光源により
照明された原稿反射光を第1ミラー、第2ミラー、第3ミラーから結像レンズを介して撮像素子に結像させて原稿画像を読み取る構成のものが多い。
 また、画像読取装置は、例えば、CCDなどの撮像素子上に結像された画像情報を電気信号に変換して画像処理し、画像情報の印刷を行う画像形成部へ転送する場合や、ネットワークに接続されたコンピュータ(例えばパーソナルコンピュータ)へ送信する場合などの画像読取手段として使用される。
 従来、照明装置に設けられる光源として、ハロゲンランプやキセノンランプなどの棒状の光源や、発光ダイオード(LED)などの複数の発光素子を列設した光源を採用することがある。
 このうち、複数の発光素子を列設した光源を採用する場合、LEDなどの発光素子は所定方向に強い指向特性を有しているため、原稿の光照射面で発光素子のピッチに対応する照度ムラが発生することがある。
 例えば、発光素子のピッチが大きくなるに従い原稿の光照射面の照度ムラが目立ちやすくなる。このため、前記ピッチを小さくすることが好ましいが、前記ピッチを小さくすると、必要な発光素子の数が多くなり、それだけコストアップを招くことになる。
 また、発光素子の原稿への光軸距離が短くなるに従い照度ムラが目立ちやすくなる。このため、前記光軸距離を長くすることが好ましいが、前記光軸距離を長くすると、原稿の光照射面での照度が小さくなるため、その分発光素子の光量を増加させる必要がある。
 かかる照度ムラを軽減するという観点から、下記特許文献1には、原稿と複数の発光素子を列設した光源との間に光を拡散する拡散部材を設ける照明装置が開示されている。また、下記特許文献2には、複数の発光素子を千鳥状に列設した光照射装置が開示されている。
 ところが、特許文献1に記載の照明装置では、原稿と光源との間に拡散部材を設けることで、発光素子による原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減できるものの、新たに拡散部材を設ける必要があり、製造コストが増大する。さらには、拡散部材により原稿の光照射面での照度が低下し、光源からの光が原稿へ照射される際の光量ロスを招く。このため、原稿の読み取り速度が比較的速い画像読取装置への採用が困難となる。また、光量ロスをカバーするために発光素子の光量を上げると、消費電力が大きくなるといった不都合がある。
 また、特許文献2に記載の光照射装置では、たとえ発光素子が千鳥状の配置構成となっていたとしても、発光素子による原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で発光素子のピッチと発光素子の原稿への光軸距離との関係が最適なものになっていなければ、照度ムラを軽減しつつ発光素子からの光を原稿の光照射面に効率よく照射することができない。
 従って、原稿と複数の発光素子を列設した光源との間に拡散部材を設けることなく、発光素子による原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で、発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿の光照射面に照射するように前記ピッチ及び前記光軸距離の関係を最適なものにすることが望まれている。
 この点に関し、下記特許文献3には、画像を読み取る際の発光素子単体の光量をA、全体の光量をB、発光素子の照射角をα(rad)、発光素子のピッチをP、発光素子の発光面から原稿面までの距離をHとしたとき、これらの値がA/B≧0.5、P/H≦0.6α+0.25を満足するように設定されることで、コストアップを抑制しつつ、照度ムラのない原稿照射を行うことができる照明装置が開示されている。

 しかしながら、特許文献3に記載の照明装置では、上記した関係式のうち、A/B≧0.5は、単にA/Bを大きくして必要光量を得るための発光素子の数量を少なくするという観点から決定されたものであり、P/H≦0.6α+0.25は、光源の発光面から原稿面までの距離を一定(6mm)としたときのみの関係を示しているだけであるため(段落[0036]~[0060]参照)、発光素子による原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で、発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿の光照射面に照射するようにピッチP及び距離Hの関係を最適なものにできるとは言い難い。しかも汎用的な利用も困難である。
 そこで、本発明は、複数の発光素子を列設した光源を備えた照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置であって、前記発光素子による原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で、前記発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿の光照射面に照射するように前記発光素子のピッチと前記発光素子の原稿への光軸距離との関係を最適なものにできると共に、汎用的な利用が可能な照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置を提供することを目的とする。
 本発明者らは、前記課題を解決するために、複数の発光素子による原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減しつつ、発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿の光照射面に照射するように発光素子のピッチと発光素子の原稿への光軸距離との関係を最適なものにすると共に、汎用的な利用を可能にするべく、鋭意研究を重ねた結果、原稿への所定の第1方向に延びる光照射領域に向けて光を照射する複数の発光素子による原稿の光照射面での前記第1方向の明暗の繰り返しを示す照度周期において照度差を平均値で割ったムラ[%]という概念を導入し、このムラ[%]と、前記照度周期の半周期であるムラ間距離[mm]との関係において原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを許容できる限界の範囲、さらには照度ムラを確実に許容できる範囲を見出し、本発明を完成した。これについては、後述する[照度ムラ判定評価]で詳しく説明する。
 本発明は、かかる知見に基づくものであり、原稿への所定の第1方向に延びる光照射領域に向けて光を照射する複数の発光素子を列設した光源を有する照明装置において、前記複数の発光素子の前記第1方向における発光素子ピッチ[mm]をP、前記複数の発光素子の原稿への光軸距離[mm]をHとし、前記複数の発光素子による原稿の光照射面での前記第1方向の明暗の繰り返しを示す照度周期において照度の最大値L1から照度の最小値L2を差し引いた値を照度の平均値L3で割ったムラ[%](=(L1-L2)/L3[%])をM、前記照度周期の半周期であるムラ間距離[mm]をNとすると、前記ムラ[%]Mと、前記ムラ間距離[mm]NとがM≦N/2-5.5の関係を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hが設定されることを特徴とする照明装置を提供する。
 本発明において、前記複数の発光素子は、所定方向に強い指向特性を有するものであり、この指向特性において、光束が最も強くなる方向を光軸としている。
 また、本発明は、前記本発明に係る照明装置を備えたことを特徴とする画像読取装置も提供する。
 また、本発明は、前記本発明に係る画像読取装置を備えたことを特徴とする画像形成装置も提供する。
 本発明に係る照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置によれば、M≦N/2-5.5の関係は、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを許容できる限界の範囲として見出されたものである。従って、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離HがM≦N/2-5.5の関係を満たすように設定されることで、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で、前記発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿の光照射面に照射するように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hの関係を最適なものにすることができる。例えば、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で、前記光軸距離Hに対して前記発光素子の数量が可及的に少なくなる前記発光素子ピッチPの値に設定することができ、或いは、前記発光素子ピッチPに対して原稿の光照射面での照度が可及的に大きくなる前記光軸距離Hの値に設定することができる。しかも、汎用的な利用が可能である。
 本発明者らはまた、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離HがP/H≦0.83の関係を満足すれば、M≦N/2-5.5の関係を満たすことも見出した。これについては、後述する[解析シミュレーション]で詳しく説明する。
 この特定事項では、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hを設定するにあたり、P/H≦0.83の関係式に前記発光素子ピッチP又は前記光軸距離Hを代入するだけで済むので、M≦N/2-5.5の関係を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hの一方をもとに他方を容易に設定することができる。
 本発明に係る照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置において、前記ムラ[%]Mと、前記ムラ間距離[mm]NとがM≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hが設定されることが好ましい。
 この特定事項では、M≦N/2-7.5の関係は、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを確実に許容できる範囲として見出されたものである。従って、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離HがM≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように設定されることで、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラをさらに軽減した状態で、前記発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿の光照射面に照射するように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hの関係を最適なものにすることができる。例えば、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラをさらに軽減した状態で、前記光軸距離Hに対して前記発光素子の数量が可及的に少なくなる前記発光素子ピッチPの値に設定することができ、或いは、前記発光素子ピッチPに対して原稿の光照射面での照度が可及的に大きくなる前記光軸距離Hの値に設定することができる。しかも、汎用的な利用が可能である。
 本発明者らはまた、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離HがP/H≦0.71の関係を満足すれば、M≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすことも見出した。これについても、後述する[解析シミュレーション]で詳しく説明する。
 この特定事項では、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hを設定するにあたり、P/H≦0.71の関係式に前記発光素子ピッチP又は前記光軸距離Hを代入するだけで済むので、M≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hの一方をもとに他方を容易に設定することができる。
 本発明に係る照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置において、前記複数の発光素子の具体的態様として、例えば、次の(a)及び(b)の態様を挙げることができる。すなわち、
(a)前記複数の発光素子は、前記光照射領域を基準にして、前記第1方向に直交する前記光照射面に沿った第2方向の片側のみに列設されている態様、
(b)前記複数の発光素子は、前記光照射領域を基準にして、前記第1方向に直交する前記光照射面に沿った第2方向の両側に列設されている態様である。
 前記(b)の態様において、前記複数の発光素子は、前記両側のうち、一方側において前記第1方向に列設された複数の第1発光素子と、他方側において前記第1方向に列設された複数の第2発光素子とからなっている態様を例示できる。
 この場合、さらに具体的には、
(b1)前記複数の第1発光素子及び前記複数の第2発光素子は、該第1発光素子のピッチ及び該第2発光素子のピッチが前記発光素子ピッチPと同一の距離とされ、かつ、ピッチ位置が前記第2方向で揃うように列設されている態様、
(b2)前記複数の第1発光素子及び前記複数の第2発光素子は、該第1発光素子のピッチ及び該第2発光素子のピッチが前記発光素子ピッチPの2倍の距離とされ、かつ、ピッチ位置がピッチの中央で互い違いになるように列設されている態様を例示できる。
 前記(b1)の態様では、前記(a)の態様に比べて発光素子の数を2倍して照度を倍増させることができる。また、前記(b2)の態様では、前記(b1)の態様に比べて照度を半分にして発光素子の数を半減させることができる。
 本発明に係る照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置において、前記複数の発光素子は、光源基板に搭載されており、前記光源基板の基板面に対して光軸が平行になるように光を射出するサイド発光と、前記光源基板の基板面に対して光軸が垂直になるように光を射出する頂面発光とのうち何れかの発光を行う発光面を有していてもよい。
 この場合、前記複数の第1発光素子が、前記サイド発光と前記頂面発光とのうち何れかの発光を行う発光面を有していてもよく、前記複数の第2発光素子が、前記サイド発光と前記頂面発光とのうち何れかの発光を行う発光面を有していてもよい。
 ところで、本発明では、従来の照明装置で原稿と光源との間に設けていたような拡散部材を設けなくても、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減でき、良好な画像を得ことができる。
 従って、本発明に係る画像読取装置において、透光性の原稿台を備え、前記光源は、前記原稿台を介して原稿を直接照射することができる。
 この特定事項では、従来の構成において原稿と光源との間に設けていた拡散部材を設けなくてもよいので、製造コストの増大を招くことがなく、しかも光源からの光が原稿へ照射される際の光量ロスを回避することができる。
 以上説明したように、本発明に係る照明装置及び画像読取装置並びに画像形成装置によると、M≦N/2-5.5の関係(照度ムラを許容できる限界の範囲)を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hが設定されるので、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラを軽減した状態で、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hの関係を最適なものにできると共に、汎用的な利用が可能である。
 さらに、M≦N/2-7.5の関係(照度ムラを確実に許容できる範囲)を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hが設定される場合には、原稿の光照射面での照度ムラをさらに軽減した状態で、前記発光素子ピッチP及び前記光軸距離Hの関係を最適なものにできる。

 以下、本発明に係る一実施形態について図面を参照しながら説明する。なお、以下の実施の形態は、本発明を具体化した一例であって、本発明の技術的範囲を限定する性格のものではない。
 図1は、本発明に係る照明装置の一実施形態を適用した画像読取装置100を備えた画像形成装置Dを概略的に示す側面図である。
 図1に示す画像形成装置Dは、原稿G(後述する図2等参照)の画像を読み取る画像読取装置100と、この画像読取装置100により読み取られた原稿Gの画像又は外部から受信した画像をカラーもしくは単色で普通紙等の記録シートに記録形成する装置本体Dmとを備えている。
 [画像形成装置の全体構成について]
 画像形成装置Dの装置本体Dmは、露光装置1、現像装置2(2a,2b,2c,2d)、像担持体として作用する感光体ドラム3(3a,3b,3c,3d)、帯電器5(5a,5b,5c,5d)、クリーナ装置4(4a,4b,4c,4d)、転写部として作用する中間転写ローラ6(6a,6b,6c,6d)を含む中間転写ベルト装置8、定着装置12、シート搬送装置50、給紙部として作用する給紙トレイ10、及び排紙部として作用する排紙トレイ15を備えている。
 画像形成装置Dの装置本体Dmにおいて扱われる画像データは、ブラック(K)、シアン(C)、マゼンタ(M)、イエロー(Y)の各色を用いたカラー画像に応じたもの、又は単色(例えばブラック)を用いたモノクロ画像に応じたものである。従って、現像装置2(2a,2b,2c,2d)、感光体ドラム3(3a,3b,3c,3d)、帯電器5(5a,5b,5c,5d)、クリーナ装置4(4a,4b,4c,4d)、中間転写ローラ6(6a,6b,6c,6d)は各色に応じた4種類の画像を形成するようにそれぞれ4個ずつ設けられ、それぞれの末尾符号a~dのうち、aがブラックに、bがシアンに、cがマゼンタに、dがイエローに対応付けられて、4つの画像ステーションが構成されている。以下、末尾符号a~dは省略して説明する。
 感光体ドラム3は、装置本体Dmの上下方向のほぼ中央に配置されている。帯電器5は、感光体ドラム3の表面を所定の電位に均一に帯電させるための帯電手段であり、接触型であるローラ型やブラシ型の帯電器のほか、チャージャー型の帯電器が用いられる。
 露光装置1は、ここでは、レーザダイオード及び反射ミラーを備えたレーザスキャニングユニット(LSU)であり、帯電された感光体ドラム3表面を画像データに応じて露光して、その表面に画像データに応じた静電潜像を形成する。
 現像装置2は、感光体ドラム3上に形成された静電潜像を(K,C,M,Y)のトナーにより現像する。クリーナ装置4は、現像及び画像転写後に感光体ドラム3表面に残留したトナーを除去及び回収する。
 感光体ドラム3の上方に配置されている中間転写ベルト装置8は、中間転写ローラ6に加えて、中間転写ベルト7、中間転写ベルト駆動ローラ21、従動ローラ22、テンションローラ23、及び中間転写ベルトクリーニング装置9を備えている。
 中間転写ベルト駆動ローラ21、中間転写ローラ6、従動ローラ22、テンションローラ23等のローラ部材は、中間転写ベルト7を張架して支持し、中間転写ベルト7を所定のシート搬送方向(図中矢印方向)に周回移動させる。
 中間転写ローラ6は、中間転写ベルト7内側に回転可能に支持され、中間転写ベルト7を介して感光体ドラム3に圧接されている。
 中間転写ベルト7は、各感光体ドラム3に接触するように設けられており、各感光体ドラム3表面のトナー像を中間転写ベルト7に順次重ねて転写することによって、カラーのトナー像(各色のトナー像)を形成する。この中間転写ベルト7は、ここでは、厚さ100μm~150μm程度のフィルムを用いて無端ベルト状に形成されている。
 感光体ドラム3から中間転写ベルト7へのトナー像の転写は、中間転写ベルト7内側(裏面)に圧接されている中間転写ローラ6によって行われる。中間転写ローラ6には、トナー像を転写するために高電圧の転写バイアス(例えば、トナーの帯電極性(-)とは逆極性(+)の高電圧)が印加される。中間転写ローラ6は、ここでは、直径8~10mmの金属(例えばステンレス)軸をベースとし、その表面は、導電性の弾性材(例えばEPDM、発泡ウレタン等)により覆われたローラである。この導電性の弾性材により、記録シートに対して均一に高電圧を印加することができる。
 画像形成装置Dの装置本体Dmは、転写部として作用する転写ローラ11aを含む2次転写装置11をさらに備えている。転写ローラ11aは、中間転写ベルト7の中間転写ベルト駆動ローラ21とは反対側(外側)に接触している。
 上述の様に各感光体ドラム3表面のトナー像は、中間転写ベルト7で積層され、画像データによって示されるカラーのトナー像となる。このように積層された各色のトナー像は、中間転写ベルト7と共に搬送され、2次転写装置11によって記録シート上に転写される。
 中間転写ベルト7と2次転写装置11の転写ローラ11aとは、相互に圧接されてニップ域を形成する。また、2次転写装置11の転写ローラ11aには、中間転写ベルト7上の各色のトナー像を記録シートに転写させるための電圧(例えば、トナーの帯電極性(-)とは逆極性(+)の高電圧)が印加される。さらに、そのニップ域を定常的に得るために、2次転写装置11の転写ローラ11aもしくは中間転写ベルト駆動ローラ21の何れか一方を硬質材料(金属等)とし、他方を弾性ローラ等の軟質材料(弾性ゴムローラや発泡性樹脂ローラ等)としている。

 また、2次転写装置11によって中間転写ベルト7上のトナー像が記録シート上に完全に転写されず、中間転写ベルト7上にトナーが残留することがあり、この残留トナーが次工程でトナーの混色を発生させる原因となる。このため、中間転写ベルトクリーニング装置9によって残留トナーを除去及び回収する。中間転写ベルトクリーニング装置9には、例えばクリーニング部材として中間転写ベルト7に接触するクリーニングブレードが備えられており、このクリーニングブレードで残留トナーを除去及び回収することができる。従動ローラ22は、中間転写ベルト7を内側(裏側)から支持しており、クリーニングブレードは、外部から従動ローラ22に向けて押圧するように中間転写ベルト7に接触している。
 給紙トレイ10は、記録シートを格納しておくためのトレイであり、装置本体Dmの画像形成部の下側に設けられている。また、画像形成部の上側に設けられている排紙トレイ15は、印刷済みの記録シートをフェイスダウンで載置するためのトレイである。
 また、装置本体Dmには、給紙トレイ10の記録シートを2次転写装置11や定着装置12を経由させて排紙トレイ15に送るためのシート搬送装置50が設けられている。このシート搬送装置50は、Sの字形状のシート搬送路Sを有し、シート搬送路Sに沿って、ピックアップローラ16、サバキローラ14a、分離ローラ14b、各搬送ローラ13、レジスト前ローラ対19、レジストローラ対18、定着装置12、及び排紙ローラ17等の搬送部材が配置されている。
 ピックアップローラ16は、給紙トレイ10のシート搬送方向下流側端部に設けられ、給紙トレイ10から記録シートを1枚ずつシート搬送路Sに供給する呼び込みローラである。サバキローラ14aは、分離ローラ14bとの間に記録シートを通過させて1枚ずつ分離しつつシート搬送路Sへと搬送する。各搬送ローラ13及びレジスト前ローラ対19は、記録シートの搬送を促進補助するための小型のローラである。各搬送ローラ13は、シート搬送路Sに沿って複数箇所に設けられている。レジスト前ローラ対19は、レジストローラ対18のシート搬送方向上流側の直近に設けられており、記録シートをレジストローラ対18へと搬送するようになっている。
 定着装置12は、トナー像が転写された記録シートを受け取り、この記録シートをヒートローラ31及び加圧ローラ32間に挟み込んで搬送する。
 ヒートローラ31は、所定の定着温度となるように温度制御され、加圧ローラ32と共に記録シートを熱圧着することにより、記録シートに転写されたトナー像を溶融、混合、圧接し、記録シートに対して熱定着させる機能を有している。また、定着装置12には、ヒートローラ31を外部から加熱するための外部加熱ベルト33が設けられている。
 各色のトナー像の定着後での記録シートは、排紙ローラ17によって排紙トレイ15上に排出される。
 なお、4つの画像形成ステーションのうち一つだけを用いて、モノクロ画像を形成し、モノクロ画像を中間転写ベルト装置8の中間転写ベルト7に転写することも可能である。このモノクロ画像も、カラー画像と同様に、中間転写ベルト7から記録シートに転写され、記録シート上に定着される。
 また、記録シートの表(オモテ)面だけではなく、両面の画像形成を行う場合は、記録シートの表面の画像を定着装置12により定着した後に、記録シートをシート搬送路Sの排紙ローラ17により搬送する途中で、排紙ローラ17を停止させてから逆回転させ、記録シートを表裏反転経路Srに通して、記録シートの表裏を反転させてから、記録シートを再びレジストローラ対18へと導き、記録シートの表面と同様に、記録シートの裏面に画像を記録して定着し、記録シートを排紙トレイ15に排出する。
 [画像読取装置の全体構成について]
 図2は、図1に示す画像読取装置100の概略縦断面図である。図1及び図2に示す画像読取装置100は、原稿固定方式により原稿Gを固定して原稿画像を読み取ると共に、原稿移動方式により原稿Gを移動させて原稿画像を読み取るように構成されている。
 すなわち、画像読取装置100は、原稿台の一例である原稿台ガラス201a上に載置される原稿Gを光源211にて該ガラス201aを介して照明し、該光源211を副走査方向(図中矢印Y方向一方側)に移動させつつ該光源211により照明された原稿Gからの反射光を副走査方向Yに直交する主走査方向(後述する図3の矢印X方向参照)に走査して原稿画像を読み取る原稿固定読取構成と、自動原稿送り装置300で原稿台の他の例である原稿読取ガラス201b上を通過するように副走査方向Y一方側に搬送される原稿Gを、原稿読取部200において定位置Vに位置する光源211にて該ガラス201bを介して照明しつつ該光源211により照明された原稿Gからの反射光を主走査方向Xに走査して原稿画像を読み取る原稿移動読取構成とを備えている。なお、図2では光源211が定位置Vに位置している状態を示している。
 詳しくは、原稿読取部200は、原稿台ガラス201a、光源211を含む光源ユニット210(照明装置の一例)、光源211を移動させる光学系駆動部(図示せず)、ミラーユニット203、集光レンズ204及び撮像素子(ここではCCD)205を備えている。光源211は光源ユニット210に設けられており、これらは金属製の枠体202内に収容されている。なお、光源ユニット210についてはのちほど詳しく説明する。
 原稿台ガラス201aは、透明なガラス板からなり、主走査方向Xの両端部が枠体202に載置されている。なお、自動原稿送り装置300は、副走査方向Yに沿った軸線回りに(例えばヒンジによって軸支され)原稿読取部200に対して開閉可能となっており、その下面が原稿読取部200の原稿台ガラス201a上に載置された原稿Gを上から押さえる原稿押さえ部材を兼ねている。
 ミラーユニット203は、第2ミラー203a、第3ミラー203b及び支持部材(図示せず)を備えている。前記支持部材は、第2ミラー203aを、光源ユニット210における第1ミラー230からの光を反射して第3ミラー203bに導くように支持すると共に、第3ミラー203bを、第2ミラー203aからの光を反射して集光レンズ204に導くように支持している。集光レンズ204は、第3ミラー203bからの光を撮像素子205に集光するものであり、撮像素子205は、集光レンズ204からの光(原稿画像光)を電気信号に画像データとして電気信号に変換するものである。
 また、前記光学系駆動部は、光源ユニット210を一定の速度で副走査方向Yに移動させると共に、ミラーユニット203を光源ユニット210の移動速度の1/2の移動速度で同じく副走査方向Yに移動させるように構成されている。
 ここでは、原稿読取部200は、原稿固定方式に加えて、原稿移動方式にも対応しており、原稿読取ガラス201bを備えている。従って、前記光学系駆動部は、さらに、光源ユニット210を原稿読取ガラス201b下方の所定のホームポジションVに位置させるように構成されている。なお、原稿台ガラス201a及び原稿読取ガラス201bは、ここでは個々に独立したものとしているが、これらを一体的に形成したものとしてもよい。
 自動原稿送り装置300は、原稿Gを搬送するために載置する原稿トレイ301と、この原稿トレイ301の下方に配置される排出トレイ302と、これらの間を接続する第1搬送路303と、原稿読取ガラス201bを基準にして原稿Gを該原稿Gの搬送方向Y1においてそれぞれ上流側及び下流側で搬送する上流側搬送ローラ対304及び下流側搬送ローラ対305とからなる2つの搬送ローラ対とを備えている。すなわち、上流側搬送ローラ対304、原稿読取ガラス201b及び下流側搬送ローラ対305は、搬送方向Y1に沿ってこの順に配設されている。また、原稿読取ガラス201bは、第1搬送路303の搬送壁を画するように略水平に設けられている。
 自動原稿送り装置300は、さらに、ピックアップローラ306と、サバキローラ307と、分離パッド等の分離部材308とを備えている。
 ピックアップローラ306は、原稿トレイ301上に載置された原稿Gを該原稿トレイ301から搬送方向Y1に沿って第1搬送路303内へ送り出すものである。サバキローラ307は、ピックアップローラ306より搬送方向Y1下流側に配置されており、ピックアップローラ306にて送られてきた原稿Gを分離部材308と共に挟持しつつさらに搬送方向Y1下流側へ搬送するものである。分離部材308は、サバキローラ307に対峙された状態で該サバキローラ307との間に搬送される原稿Gが1枚になるように該原稿Gを捌く(分離する)ようになっている。
 かかる構成を備えた自動原稿送り装置300は、原稿Gをピックアップローラ306にてサバキローラ307と分離部材308との間に搬送し、ここで原稿Gを捌いて分離すると共にサバキローラ307が回転駆動されることによって1枚ずつ搬送するようになっている。そして、サバキローラ307にて搬送される原稿Gを第1搬送路303にて案内して上流側搬送ローラ対304に向けて1枚ずつ供給することが可能となっている。
 詳しくは、ピックアップローラ306は、原稿トレイ301に積載された原稿Gに対して、図示しないピックアップローラ駆動部にて接離可能とされている。また、ピックアップローラ306は、無端ベルト等を含む駆動伝達手段309を介してサバキローラ307と同方向に回転するように該サバキローラ307に連結されている。ピックアップローラ306及びサバキローラ307は、原稿Gの読み取り要求がなされると、図示しない原稿供給駆動部にて原稿Gを搬送方向Y1に搬送させる方向(図2中矢印W)に回転駆動されるようになっている。
 本実施の形態では、自動原稿送り装置300は、原稿Gの一方の面を読み取り可能に搬送した後、該原稿Gを表裏が逆転するように反転させて該原稿Gの他方の面を読み取り可能に搬送するように構成されている。
 詳しくは、自動原稿送り装置300は、前記の構成に加えて、さらに、反転ローラ対310と、第2搬送路311と、切換爪312とを備えている。
 第1搬送路303は、原稿Gをサバキローラ307から上流側搬送ローラ対304、原稿読取ガラス201b、下流側搬送ローラ対305及び反転ローラ対310を経て排出トレイ302へ搬送するようにループ状に形成されている。反転ローラ対310は、下流側搬送ローラ対305よりも搬送方向Y1下流側に配設され、かつ、該下流側搬送ローラ対305から搬送されてきた原稿Gを後端(搬送方向Y1上流側端)が前になるように搬送するためのものである。第2搬送路311は、反転ローラ対310と下流側搬送ローラ対305との間の分岐部Sbから分岐され、かつ、該反転ローラ対310にて後端が前になるように搬送された原稿Gを該原稿Gの表裏が逆転するように反転させるために第1搬送路303の上流側搬送ローラ対304よりも搬送方向Y1上流側へ導くものである。第1搬送路303の反転ローラ対310と分岐部Sbとの間には、スイッチバック搬送路313が形成されている。このスイッチバック搬送路313は、反転ローラ対310の順方向(原稿Gの搬送方向Y1)の回転による原稿Gの搬送と、逆方向の回転による原稿Gの逆搬送とが可能な搬送路とされている。
 切換爪312は、分岐部Sbに配置され、かつ、原稿Gを反転ローラ対310から第2搬送路311を介して上流側搬送ローラ対304へ導く第1切換姿勢と、原稿Gを下流側搬送ローラ対305からスイッチバック搬送路313を介して反転ローラ対310へ導く第2切換姿勢とをとり得るように構成されている。
 ここでは、切換爪312は、通常状態では、スイッチバック搬送路313と第2搬送路311とを直結する形態で配置され(第1切換姿勢、図2中実線参照)、原稿読取部200で原稿画像が読み取られた原稿Gが搬送方向Y1に搬送される際には、該原稿Gの先端(搬送方向Y1下流側端)が切換爪312を押し上げて該原稿Gをスイッチバック搬送路313へ導くようになっている(第2切換姿勢、図中破線参照)。この切換爪312は、爪部312aが自重で落下し、下流側搬送ローラ対305と反転ローラ対310との間の第1搬送路303を閉塞して前記第1切換姿勢をとるように反転ローラ対310の軸線方向に沿った揺動軸Q回りに揺動自在とされている。そして、切換爪312は、原稿Gの後端がスイッチバック搬送路313内に位置し、該原稿Gが逆方向に回転する反転ローラ対310にて原稿Gの搬送方向Y1とは反対方向の逆搬送方向(図中矢印Y2方向)に逆搬送される際には、該原稿Gを第2搬送路311へ導くようになっている。
 なお、原稿トレイ301に載置された原稿Gのサイズは、原稿トレイ301の原稿載置部に配設された原稿サイズセンサ314で検出されるようになっている。原稿トレイ301に載置された原稿Gの有無は、原稿トレイ301の原稿載置部のピックアップローラ306近傍に配設された原稿有無検知センサ315で検出されるようになっている。また、上流側搬送ローラ対304は、停止状態においてサバキローラ307にて搬送された原稿Gの先端を突き合わせて整合し、読み取りタイミングに合わせて回転駆動されるようになっている。こうして搬送される原稿Gは、第1搬送路303の搬送方向Y1において第2搬送路311より下流側、かつ、上流側搬送ローラ対304より下流側に配設された搬送センサ316で検出されるようになっている。また、反転ローラ対310にて排出される原稿Gは、反転ローラ対310より排出側で該反転ローラ対310近傍に配設された排出センサ317で検出されるようになっている。なお、搬送ローラ対304,305、反転ローラ対310等は、図示しない搬送系の駆動部にて駆動されるようになっている。
 また、本実施の形態においては、原稿読取部200は、搬送される原稿Gを間にして、原稿読取ガラス201bと対向する読取ガイド318をさらに備えている。
 以上説明した画像読取装置100では、原稿固定方式によって原稿Gの原稿画像を読み取る指示がなされると、光源ユニット210は原稿台ガラス201aに載置される原稿Gに対して光を該原稿台ガラス201aを介して照射しながら一定の速度で副走査方向Yの一方側に移動して原稿Gの画像を走査し、それと同時にミラーユニット203は光源ユニット210の移動速度の1/2の移動速度で同じく副走査方向Yの一方側に移動する。
 光源ユニット210にて照明された原稿Gからの反射光は、光源ユニット210に設けられた第1ミラー230で反射したのち、ミラーユニット203の第2ミラー203a及び第3ミラー203bによって180°光路変換され、第3ミラー203bから反射された光は集光レンズ204を介して撮像素子205に結像し、ここで原稿画像光が読み取られて電気的な画像データに変換される。
 一方、原稿移動方式によって原稿Gの原稿画像を読み取る指示がなされると、光源ユニット210及びミラーユニット203が図2に示される位置Vに静止したまま、自動原稿送り装置300によって原稿Gが図2に示される位置Vの上部を通過するように副走査方向Yの一方側に搬送される。すなわち、原稿トレイ301に載置された原稿Gは、ピックアップローラ306によって取り出され、サバキローラ307及び分離部材308によって1枚ずつに分離され、第1搬送路303に搬送される。第1搬送路303に搬送された原稿Gは、搬送センサ316で原稿Gの搬送が確認された後、上流側搬送ローラ対304によって、斜行防止のために先端が揃えられると共に、規定の読み取りタイミングで送り出され、表裏が反転されて原稿読取ガラス201bへと搬送される。
 そして、原稿読取ガラス201b上を通過した原稿Gの一方の面に、光源ユニット210からの光が該原稿読取ガラス201bを介して照射されて該一方の面で反射される。この原稿Gの一方の面から反射された光は、上述の原稿固定方式と同様に第1ミラー230によって反射された後、ミラーユニット203の第2ミラー203a及び第3ミラー203bによって180°光路変換され、集光レンズ204を介して撮像素子205に結像し、ここで原稿画像が読み取られて電気的な画像データに変換される。なお、この撮像素子205による読み取り動作は、後述する両面読み取りの場合も同様であり、以下では説明を省略する。
 読み取りの終了した原稿Gは、下流側搬送ローラ対305によって読取ガラス201b上から引き出され、第1搬送路303のスイッチバック搬送路313を介して、可逆回転可能な反転ローラ対310によって排出トレイ302上に排出される。
 また、原稿Gの一方の面と他方の面との両面を読み取る場合には、一方の面が読み取られた原稿Gが排出トレイ302に排出されることなく、該原稿Gの後端がスイッチバック搬送路313内に位置するように搬送され、逆方向に回転する反転ローラ対310にて逆搬送方向Y2に逆搬送されて第1切換姿勢にある切換爪312にて第2搬送路311へ導かれる。第2搬送路311に導かれた原稿Gは、第2搬送路311を介して、再度、第1搬送路303に戻ることで、表裏が反転されて上流側搬送ローラ対304にて搬送され、原稿読取ガラス201b上を通過して他方の面が読み取られる。こうして両面の読み取りが終わった原稿Gは、再度、第1搬送路303に戻ることで、表裏が反転されて搬送ローラ対304,305にて搬送され、その後、第1搬送路303のスイッチバック搬送路313を通過し、順方向に回転する反転ローラ対310を介して排出トレイ302に排出される。
 [本発明の特徴部分の説明]
 図3は、本実施形態に係る照明装置の一例である光源ユニット210の概略構成を示す図であって、図3(a)は、その斜視図を示しており、図3(b)は、その分解斜視図を示している。また、図4は、光源ユニット210における光源211を示す図であって、図4(a)は、その概略側面図を示しており、図4(b)は、その概略平面図を示している。なお、図4(a)においては、原稿台201a,201b及び原稿Gも図示している。
 本発明の実施形態に係る光源ユニット210に備えられている光源211は、複数の発光素子212,…と、それを搭載する光源基板213とを備えている。なお、各発光素子は、同じタイプのものとされており、光量や発光の際の指向特性等は何れも実質的に同一のものとされている。
 複数の発光素子212,…は、原稿Gにおける所定の第1方向(ここでは主走査方向X)に延びる一定の光照射領域Lrに向けて光を照射するものであり、原稿Gの光照射面Gsに沿って列設されている。この光照射領域Lrが原稿読取位置とされる。
 本実施の形態では、複数の発光素子212,…は、光照射領域Lrを基準にして、第1方向に直交する光照射面Gsに沿った第2方向(ここでは副走査方向Y)の両側に列設されている。複数の発光素子212,…は、各光軸Lが光照射領域Lrを主走査方向Xに対して直角になるように配置されている。
 詳しくは、複数の発光素子212,…は、前記両側のうち、一方側には複数の第1発光素子212a,…が主走査方向Xに列設されており、他方側には複数の第2発光素子212b,…が主走査方向Xに列設されている。すなわち、複数の発光素子212,…は、第1発光素子212a,…で構成される第1発光素子列と複数の第2発光素子212b,…で構成される第2発光素子列との2列に配置されている。
 光源基板213は、主走査方向Xに延びる互いに平行な第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bからなっている。第1光源基板213aには、複数の第1発光素子212a,…が搭載され、第2光源基板213bには、複数の第2発光素子212b,…が搭載されている。
 また、本実施の形態では、複数の第1発光素子212a,…及び複数の第2発光素子212b,…の各ピッチは、発光素子ピッチ(素子中心間の主走査方向Xにおける距離)Pと同一の距離とされている。さらに、前記第1発光素子列及び前記第2発光素子列において、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…は、ピッチ位置が副走査方向Yで揃うように(同一ピッチ位置構成で)配列されている。
 また、本実施の形態では、図4(a)に示すように、複数の第1発光素子212a,…及び複数の第2発光素子212b,…は、それぞれ、搭載される第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bの基板面Fに対して光軸Lが平行になるように光を射出するサイド発光を行う発光面E1を有している。具体的には、第1発光素子212a,…を搭載した第1光源基板213aと、第2発光素子212b,…を搭載した第2光源基板213bとは、側面視において光軸Lの方向が光照射領域Lrへ向くように原稿側とは反対側が開いた「ハの字」形に配置されている。なお、光照射領域Lrは、第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bの中間に位置している。
 図5は、図4に示す第1発光素子列及び第2発光素子列の他の配列例を示す概略平面図である。なお、図5において、図4の構成要素と同じ要素には同一符号を付し、その説明を省略する。後述する図6及び図7についても同様である。
 図5に示す第1発光素子列及び第2発光素子列の配列例では、主走査方向Xにおける発光素子ピッチPは、第1発光素子列の第1発光素子212a,…と、第2発光素子列の第2発光素子212b,…との間のピッチとなる。
 すなわち、図5に示す複数の第1発光素子212a,…及び複数の第2発光素子212b,…の各ピッチは、発光素子ピッチPの2倍の距離とされ、さらに、第1発光素子列及び第2発光素子列において、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…は、ピッチ位置がピッチの中央で互い違いになるように(千鳥状に)配列されている。
 図4及び図5に示す構成では、複数の発光素子212,…は、光照射領域Lrを基準にして、副走査方向Yの両側に配列されているが、片側のみに配列されていてもよい。
 図6は、複数の発光素子212,…が光照射領域Lrを基準にして、副走査方向Yの片側のみに配列されている一例を示す概略側面図である。
 図6に示す複数の発光素子212,…は、光照射領域Lrを基準に副走査方向Yの片側に配置された光源基板213に搭載されており、基板面Fに対して光軸Lが平行になるように光を射出するサイド発光を行う発光面E1を有している。具体的には、光源基板213は、光軸Lの方向が光照射領域Lrへ向くように傾斜配置されている。
 また、複数の発光素子212,…が両側に配列されているか或いは片側のみに配列されているかに拘わらず、搭載される光源基板213の基板面Fに対して光軸Lが垂直になるように光を射出する頂面発光を行ってもよい。
 図7は、頂面発光を行う発光面E2を有する複数の発光素子212,…の一例を示す概略側面図であって、図7(a)は、両側に配列された第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…が頂面発光を行う一例を示しており、図7(b)は、片側のみに配列された発光素子212,…が頂面発光を行う一例を示している。
 図7(a)に示すように、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…が頂面発光を行う発光面E2を有する場合には、光軸Lの方向が光照射領域Lrへ向くように原稿側が開いた逆「ハの字」形に第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bを配置することができる。なお、光照射領域Lrは、第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bの中間に位置している。
 また、図7(b)に示すように、発光素子212,…が片側のみに配列されている場合には、光軸Lの方向が光照射領域Lrへ向くように光源基板213を傾斜配置することができる。
 このように発光素子は図4から図7に示す配置構成とすることができるが、発光素子が図4に示すように同一ピッチ位置構成で配列されている場合には、図6及び図7(b)に示すように発光素子が片側のみに配列されている構成に比べて発光素子数を2倍して照度を倍増させることができる。また、図5に示すように発光素子が千鳥状に配列されている場合には、発光素子が図4に示す同一ピッチ位置構成で配列されている場合に比べて照度を半分にして発光素子の数を半減させることができる。
 何れにしても、発光素子がサイド発光と頂面発光とのうち何れかの発光を行う発光面E1,E2を有していると、当該光源ユニット210内の構成部品の配置構成に応じて、サイド発光を行う発光面E1を有する発光素子と頂面発光を行う発光面E2を有する発光素子との使い分けを行うことで、当該光源ユニット210内の空いたスペースを有効に利用することができる。
 本実施の形態においては、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…は、何れも発光ダイオード(LED)素子とされている。従って、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…は、所定方向に強い指向特性を有している。各発光素子212a,…,212b,…から射出される光のうち光束が最も強くなる方向が光軸Lとされている。
 図3に示すように、光源ユニット210は、発光素子アレイユニット215と、該発光素子アレイユニット215が設けられるミラーベースユニット216とを備えている。
 発光素子アレイユニット215は、第1発光素子212a,…と、該第1発光素子212a,…が設けられる第1光源基板213aと、第2発光素子212b,…と、該第2発光素子212b,…が設けられる第2光源基板213bと、第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bが設けられる基台214とを備えている。
 詳しくは、基台214は、第1光源基板213a及び第2光源基板213bを所定の間隔をあけて主走査方向X両端側でビス等の固定部材SCにて固定している。こうして、第1発光素子212a,…と第2発光素子212b,…とが、光照射領域Lrを基準にして、副走査方向Yの両側にそれぞれ配置されている。
 基台214には、さらに、第1光源基板213aと第2光源基板213bとの間において、原稿Gからの反射光を通過させるための主走査方向Xに沿って延びるスリットRが形成されている。このスリットRは、原稿読取位置である光照射領域Lrの下方に位置している。
 ミラーベースユニット216には、第1ミラー230が設けられている。詳しくは、第1ミラー230は、原稿Gの光照射面Gsで反射した光を基台214に設けられたスリットRを介してミラーユニット203の第2ミラー203aに導くようにミラーベースユニット216の主走査方向Xに沿った開口216aに挿通された状態で支持されている。
 ところで、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…は、ここではLED素子とされており、所定方向に強い指向特性を有しているため、原稿Gの光照射面Gsで発光素子ピッチP(以下、LEDピッチPという)に対応する照度ムラが発生することがある。
 図8は、第1発光素子212a,…及び第2発光素子212b,…による原稿Gの光照射面Gsでのムラ[%]M及びムラ間距離[mm]Nを説明するための図であって、主走査方向Xの照度周期Tにおいて明暗の繰り返しを示す図である。
 この照度周期Tにおいて、ムラ[%]Mは、照度の最大値L1[lx(ルクス)]から照度の最小値L2[lx]を差し引いた値を照度の平均(中央値)値L3[lx]で割ったもの((L1-L2)/L3[%])であり、ムラ間距離[mm]Nは、照度周期Tの半周期T/2である。なお、振幅[%]をKとすると、振幅[%]Kは、照度の最大値L1[lx]から照度の平均値L3[lx]を差し引いた値を照度の平均値L3[lx]で割ったもの((L1-L3)/L3[%])である。
 そして、LEDピッチP[mm]と、発光素子から原稿Gの光照射領域Lrまでの光軸Lの距離である光軸距離H[mm]とが、M≦N/2-5.5の関係、より好ましくは、M≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように設定されている。
 次に、これらの関係を導き出した照度ムラ判定評価について、以下に説明する。
 [照度ムラ判定評価]
 照度ムラ判定評価では、図8に示すようなサインカーブに基づいて照度周期T及び振幅[%]Kの値を変更した19パターンの画像を作成した。ここでは、画像はパーソナルコンピュータを用いて作成し、プリンタを用いて印刷した。印刷画像の色調はグレーとした。
 こうして作成した各種の印刷画像について、多数の被検者に目視で確認してもらい、印刷画像上の濃度ムラ(照度ムラに対応する濃度ムラ)が許容可能かどうかの判定を行った。その判定結果を図9及び図10に示す。
 図9は、照度周期T、振幅[%]K、これらの値から算出したムラ間距離[mm]N及びムラ[%]M並びにその印刷画像の判定結果を一覧で表した図である。また、図10は、図9に示す値を基にムラ[%]Mを縦軸に、ムラ間距離[mm]Nを横軸にして作成したグラフである。
 なお、図9の判定欄中及び図10のグラフ中において「○」は「濃度ムラ(照度ムラ)を十分許容できる判定」、「△」は「濃度ムラ(照度ムラ)を許容できる限界の判定」、「×」は「濃度ムラ(照度ムラ)を許容できない判定」を示している。
 図10に示すように、N/2-5.5(図中β参照)<Mの範囲で濃度ムラ(照度ムラ)を許容できない判定(「×」判定)がなされており、N/2-7.5(図中γ参照)<M≦N/2-5.5の範囲(図中粗い網掛け参照)で濃度ムラ(照度ムラ)を許容できる限界の判定(「△」判定)がなされており、M≦N/2-7.5の範囲(図中細かい網掛け参照)で濃度ムラ(照度ムラ)を十分許容できる判定(「○」判定)がなされている。
 従って、LEDピッチP及び光軸距離Hが、N/2-7.5<M≦N/2-5.5の関係を満たすように設定されることで、原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度ムラを許容できる程度に抑制でき、さらに、M≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように設定されることで、原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度ムラを効果的に防止でき、しかも、汎用的な利用が可能である。
 そして、この状態において、発光素子からの光を効率よく原稿Gの光照射面Gsに照射するように発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離Hの関係を最適なものにすることができる。例えば、光軸距離Hに対して発光素子の数量が可及的に少なくなる発光素子ピッチPの値に設定することができ、或いは、発光素子ピッチPに対して原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度が可及的に大きくなる光軸距離Hの値に設定することができる。
 次に、ムラ[%]M及びムラ間距離[mm]Nを解析して(LEDピッチP)/(光軸距離H)の範囲を特定する解析シミュレーションについて、以下に説明する。
 [解析シミュレーション]
 解析シミュレーションでは、解析シミュレーションソフト(Optical Research Associates社製Light Tools)を用いてコンピュータ上で仮想的な画像読取装置を実現し、LEDピッチP(4mm~24mm)及び光軸距離H(4mm~19mm)の値を様々に変更してムラ[%]M及びムラ間距離[mm]Nを解析し、こうして解析したムラ[%]M及びムラ間距離[mm]Nに対して図10に示す判定基準に基づいてP/Hの値を判定した。
 なお、この解析シミュレーションで用いたLEDピッチP及び光軸距離Hの数例の値について、実機の画像読取装置にて設定して確認したところ、この解析シミュレーションとほぼ同等のムラ[%]M及びムラ間距離[mm]Nが得られた。このことから、解析シミュレーションソフトを用いてコンピュータ上で実現した仮想的な画像読取装置は、実機の画像読取装置とほぼ同等であることが確認できた。
 図11は、解析シミュレーションの条件を説明するための図である。この解析シミュレーションでは、図11に示すように、光源211として、頂面発光を行う発光面E2を有する20個のLED素子212を一列に列設した単列構成のものとし、光軸Lが原稿Gの光照射面Gsに対して垂直になるように配置したものとした。また、LED素子212の単体(1個)の光束は7.81[lm(ルーメン)](光度1900[mcd(ミリカンデラ)])とした。
 図12から図14は、解析シミュレーションで用いたLEDピッチPの一部の値において、光軸距離Hの一部の値での主走査方向の距離[mm]に対する原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度[lx]を例示したグラフである。図12(a)及び図12(b)は、LEDピッチPをそれぞれ8mm及び10mmとしたグラフを示しており、図13(a)及び図13(b)は、LEDピッチPをそれぞれ12mm及び14mmとしたグラフを示しており、図14(a)及び図14(b)は、LEDピッチPをそれぞれ16mm及び18mmとしたグラフを示している。なお、図12から図14の各グラフでは光軸距離Hとして6mm、8mm、10mm、12mm、14mm、16mm、18mmを例示している。その他のグラフは図示を省略している。
 このうち、LEDピッチPを16mmとした図14(a)のグラフを用いて、光軸距離Hを6mmとした照度ムラを自動判定する例を以下に説明する。
 図15は、LEDピッチPを16mm、光軸距離Hを6mmとして、単列構成の発光素子を用いた場合のムラ[%]Mを説明するための図である。
 LEDピッチPが16mm、光軸距離Hが6mmの場合、図15のグラフから、原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度の最大値L1は40000[lx]、最小値L2は20000[lx]、平均値L3は30000[lx]である。これらの値を図8で説明したムラ[%]Mの式(L1-L2)/L3に代入すると、ムラ[%]Mは66.7[%]となる。また、LEDピッチPが16mmであるのでムラ間距離[mm]Nは8mmとなる。
 こうして得られたムラ[%]M=66.7[%]及びムラ間距離[mm]N=8mmは、図10に示すムラ[%]Mとムラ間距離[mm]Nとの関係を示すグラフに当てはめると、N/2-5.5(図中β参照)<Mの範囲となる。従って、P/H(16mm/6mm=2.67)は、照度ムラを許容できない判定(×判定)とされる。このようにして、他の値についても同様の行った結果が図16及び図17に示す表である。
 図16は、LEDピッチPを4mm~11mmの1mm刻みの値とし、光軸距離Hを4mm~24mmの1mm刻みの値とした場合でのP/Hの判定結果を示している。また、図17は、LEDピッチPを12mm~19mmの1mm刻みの値とし、光軸距離Hを4mm~24mmの1mm刻みの値とした場合でのP/Hの判定結果を示している。
 図16及び図17に示すように、P/H>0.83の関係を満たすとき、照度ムラを許容できない判定(×判定)とされ、0.71<P/H≦0.83の関係を満たすとき、照度ムラを許容できる限界の判定(△判定)とされ、P/H≦0.71の関係を満たすとき、照度ムラを十分許容できる判定(○判定)とされている。
 以上のことから、発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離HがP/H≦0.83の関係を満たすことで照度ムラを抑制できることが分かった。これにより、発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離Hを設定するにあたり、P/H≦0.83の関係式に発光素子ピッチP又は光軸距離Hを代入するだけで済むので、M≦N/2-5.5の関係を満たすように発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離Hの一方から他方を容易に設定することができる。例えば、発光素子ピッチPを代入して光軸距離Hを求めるときは、原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度を可及的に大きくするという観点から光軸距離Hは(P/0.83)の値又は(P/0.83)以上でかつその値に可及的に近い値とすればよい。一方、光軸距離Hを代入して発光素子ピッチPを求めるときは、発光素子の数量を可及的に少なくするという観点から発光素子ピッチPは(H×0.83)の値又は(H×0.83)以下でかつその値に可及的に近い値とすればよい。
 また、発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離HがP/H≦0.71の関係を満たすことで照度ムラを効果的に防止できることが分かった。これにより、発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離Hを設定するにあたり、P/H≦0.71の関係式に発光素子ピッチP又は光軸距離Hを代入するだけで済むので、M≦N/2-7.5の関係を満たすように発光素子ピッチP及び光軸距離Hの一方から他方を容易に設定することができる。例えば、発光素子ピッチPを代入して光軸距離Hを求めるときは、原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度を可及的に大きくするという観点から光軸距離Hは(P/0.71)の値又は(P/0.71)以上でかつその値に可及的に近い値とすればよい。一方、光軸距離Hを代入して発光素子ピッチPを求めるときは、発光素子の数量を可及的に少なくするという観点から発光素子ピッチPは(H×0.71)の値又は(H×0.71)以下でかつその値に可及的に近い値とすればよい。
 なお、ここでの解析シミュレーションは、図11に示すような単列構成の発光素子として行ったが、ムラ[%]M及びムラ間距離[mm]Nを形成し得る発光素子の配置構成であれば何れのものであっても適用することができる。
 また、図4に示すような同一ピッチ位置構成の(単列構成に比べ照度が2倍の)発光素子として解析シミュレーションを行ってもシミュレーション結果は変わらない。
 図18は、LEDピッチPを16mm、光軸距離Hを6mmとした図15の条件において、図4に示す同一ピッチ位置構成の(単列構成に比べ照度が2倍の)発光素子を用いた場合のムラ[%]Mを説明するための図である。
 図18に示すように、同一ピッチ位置構成の発光素子では、原稿Gの光照射面Gsでの照度の最大値L1は80000[lx]、最小値L2は40000[lx]、平均値L3は60000[lx]となる。これらの値を図8で説明したムラ[%]Mの式(L1-L2)/L3に代入すると、ムラ[%]Mは66.7[%]となる。
 このように、図4に示す同一ピッチ位置構成の発光素子としたとしても、図15に示す単列構成の発光素子と同じムラ[%]Mとなる。従って、図4に示すような同一ピッチ位置構成の(単列構成に比べ照度が2倍の)発光素子として解析シミュレーションを行ったとしても、単列構成の場合と同じ結果となる。
 また、解析シミュレーションでは、LED素子212の単体(1個)の光束は7.81[lm](光度1900[mcd])で設定したが、この値よりも大きくなった場合、或いは、小さくなった場合においても、上記と同様の理由により、ムラM(%)は同じ結果となる。
 つまり、発光素子の配置構成や光量に拘わらず、P/H≦0.83を満足しておけば、照度ムラを実用に耐え得る程度に抑制することが可能となり、さらにP/H≦0.71を満足しておけば、照度ムラを有効に防止することが可能となる。
 図1及び図2に示す画像読取装置100において、光源211は、原稿台201a,201bを介して原稿Gを直接照射することができる。従って、従来の照明装置で原稿と光源との間に設けていたような拡散部材を設けなくても照度ムラを抑制できるので、製造コストの増大を招くことがなく、しかも光源211からの光が原稿Gへ照射される際の光量ロスを回避することができ、例えば、発光素子の光量を上げなくても、原稿Gの読み取り速度が比較的速い画像読取装置にも適用することが可能となる。
 本発明は、その精神または主要な特徴から逸脱することなく、他のいろいろな形で実施することができる。そのため、上述の実施形態や実施例はあらゆる点で単なる例示にすぎず、限定的に解釈してはならない。本発明の範囲は請求の範囲によって示すものであって、明細書本文には、なんら拘束されない。さらに、請求の範囲の均等範囲に属する変形や変更は、全て本発明の範囲内のものである。
 なお、この出願は、日本で2009年1月21日に出願された特願2009-011064号に基づく優先権を請求する。その内容はこれに言及することにより、本出願に組み込まれるものである。また、本明細書に引用された文献は、これに言及することにより、その全部が具体的に組み込まれるものである。

Claims (13)

  1.  原稿への所定の第1方向に延びる光照射領域に向けて光を照射する複数の発光素子を列設した光源を有する照明装置において、
     前記複数の発光素子の前記第1方向における発光素子ピッチ[mm]をP、前記複数の発光素子の原稿への光軸距離[mm]をHとし、
     前記複数の発光素子による原稿の光照射面での前記第1方向の明暗の繰り返しを示す照度周期において照度最大値(L1)から照度最小値(L2)を差し引いた値を照度平均値(L3)で割ったムラ[%](=(L1-L2)/L3[%])をM、前記照度周期の半周期であるムラ間距離[mm]をNとすると、
     前記ムラ[%](M)と、前記ムラ間距離[mm](N)とが
       M≦N/2-5.5
    の関係を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチ(P)及び前記光軸距離(H)が設定されることを特徴とする照明装置。
  2.  請求項1に記載の照明装置において、
     前記発光素子ピッチ(P)及び前記光軸距離(H)は、
       P/H≦0.83
    の関係を満たすことを特徴とする照明装置。
  3.  請求項1に記載の照明装置において、
     前記ムラ[%](M)と、前記ムラ間距離[mm](N)とが
       M≦N/2-7.5
    の関係を満たすように前記発光素子ピッチ(P)及び前記光軸距離(H)が設定されることを特徴とする照明装置。
  4.  請求項3に記載の照明装置において、
     前記発光素子ピッチ(P)及び前記光軸距離(H)は、
       P/H≦0.71
    の関係を満たすことを特徴とする照明装置。
  5.  請求項1から4の何れか一つに記載の照明装置において、
     前記複数の発光素子は、前記光照射領域を基準にして、前記第1方向に直交する前記光照射面に沿った第2方向の片側のみに列設されていることを特徴とする照明装置。
  6.  請求項1から4の何れか一つに記載の照明装置において、
     前記複数の発光素子は、前記光照射領域を基準にして、前記第1方向に直交する前記光照射面に沿った第2方向の両側に列設されていることを特徴とする照明装置。
  7.  請求項6に記載の照明装置において、
     前記複数の発光素子は、前記両側のうち、一方側において前記第1方向に列設された複数の第1発光素子と、他方側において前記第1方向に列設された複数の第2発光素子とからなり
     前記複数の第1発光素子及び前記複数の第2発光素子は、該第1発光素子のピッチ及び該第2発光素子のピッチが前記発光素子ピッチ(P)と同一の距離とされ、かつ、ピッチ位置が前記第2方向で揃うように列設されていることを特徴とする照明装置。
  8.  請求項6に記載の照明装置において、
     前記複数の発光素子は、前記両側のうち、一方側において前記第1方向に列設された複数の第1発光素子と、他方側において前記第1方向に列設された複数の第2発光素子とからなり
     前記複数の第1発光素子及び前記複数の第2発光素子は、該第1発光素子のピッチ及び該第2発光素子のピッチが前記発光素子ピッチ(P)の2倍の距離とされ、かつ、ピッチ位置がピッチの前記第1方向における中央位置で互い違いになるように列設されていることを特徴とする照明装置。
  9.  請求項1から4の何れか一つに記載の照明装置において、
     前記複数の発光素子は、光源基板に搭載されており、前記光源基板の基板面に対して光軸が平行になるように光を射出するサイド発光と、前記光源基板の基板面に対して光軸が垂直になるように光を射出する頂面発光とのうち何れかの発光を行う発光面を有していることを特徴とする照明装置。
  10.  請求項1から4の何れか一つに記載の照明装置を備えたことを特徴とする画像読取装置。
  11.  請求項10に記載の画像読取装置において、
     透光性の原稿台を備え、前記光源は、前記原稿台を介して原稿を直接照射することを特徴とする画像読取装置。
  12.  請求項10に記載の画像読取装置を備えたことを特徴とする画像形成装置。
  13.  請求項11に記載の画像読取装置を備えたことを特徴とする画像形成装置。
