Definitions
- the present invention relates to a distortion compensation amplifier that compensates for nonlinear distortion of an amplifier by a predistortion method, and more particularly, to a distortion compensation amplifier that increases the speed of convergence of distortion compensation and improves the amount of distortion compensation.
- the signal component outside the desired signal band is suppressed to a low level by the band limiting filter, but in the signal after passing through the amplifier, nonlinear distortion occurs and the signal component leaks outside the desired signal band (adjacent channel).
- the transmission power is high in the base station apparatus as described above, the magnitude of such leakage power to the adjacent channel is strictly defined, and how to reduce such adjacent channel leakage power. It has become a big problem.
- One of the distortion compensation methods is a predistortion method. In recent years, in order to place importance on amplification efficiency, the method is becoming mainstream instead of the feedforward method.
- the predistorter gives in advance the distortion of the AM / AM characteristic of the amplifier and the inverse characteristic of the AM / PM characteristic with respect to the instantaneous power, and the signal with the inverse characteristic is given to the amplifier.
- the output of the amplifier cancels out the non-linear region and becomes a linear characteristic, and distortion can be kept low while maintaining high efficiency.
- FIG. 3 shows a configuration example of an amplifier with distortion compensation (distortion compensation amplifier) using a distortion power detection type predistortion system.
- the power detection unit 101 detects the power (or amplitude) of the input IQ digital signal
- the address calculation unit 102 calculates the reference address of the distortion compensation table 103 constituted by a memory or the like.
- the distortion compensation table 103 stores a table for performing distortion compensation by the predistortion method, and outputs a distortion compensation value corresponding to the value calculated by the address calculation unit 102 to the predistorter unit 104.
- the distortion compensation table 103 non-linear AM / AM characteristics of the amplifier to be compensated, the inverse characteristics of the AM / PM characteristics, and correction values for compensating distortion due to the memory effect are stored. Then, the distortion compensation table 103 is expanded into an amplitude table and a phase table in the control unit 115, and then subjected to orthogonal coordinate conversion and stored in the I and Q tables.
- the predistorter unit 104 performs a complex multiplication of the reference result of the distortion compensation table 103 and the input signal, and a signal predistorted by the predistortion method passes through a D / A (Digital to Analog) converter 105. It becomes an analog signal, and is converted into a radio frequency (RF) signal by the frequency converter 106. Thereafter, this signal is amplified by the amplification unit 107, and the output signal becomes a signal without distortion, and is output from the antenna 108.
- D / A Digital to Analog
- a part of this output signal is taken out by the directional coupler 109, and is converted into an intermediate frequency (IF) signal by the frequency converter 111 as a feedback signal, and A / D (Analog to Digital). ) It is converted into a digital signal by the converter 112, converted from time axis data to frequency axis data by an FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) unit 113, and distortion power is calculated from the data subjected to FFT processing by the distortion band power calculation unit 114.
- the control unit 115 updates the distortion compensation table 103 so that the feedback distortion power from the distortion band power calculation unit 114 becomes small, and performs adaptive control to follow a temperature change or the like.
- FIG. 4 shows a configuration example of an amplifier with distortion compensation (distortion compensation amplifier) using an input / output signal comparison type predistortion method.
- the power detection unit 201 detects the power (or amplitude) of the input IQ digital signal
- the address calculation unit 202 calculates the reference address of the distortion compensation table 203 configured by a memory or the like.
- the distortion compensation table 203 stores a table for performing distortion compensation by the predistortion method, and outputs a distortion compensation value corresponding to the value calculated by the address calculation unit 202 to the predistorter unit 204.
- the distortion compensation table 203 stores correction values for compensating for distortion due to the nonlinear AM / AM characteristic and the inverse characteristic of the AM / PM characteristic of the amplifier to be compensated and the memory effect. Then, the distortion compensation table 103 is expanded into an amplitude table and a phase table in the control unit 217, and then subjected to orthogonal coordinate conversion and stored in the I and Q tables.
- the predistorter unit 204 performs a complex multiplication of the reference result of the distortion compensation table 203 and the input signal, whereby a signal predistorted by the predistortion method passes through the D / A converter 205 and becomes an analog signal.
- the converter 206 converts the signal into an RF signal. Thereafter, this signal is amplified by the amplifying unit 207, and the output signal becomes a signal without distortion and is output from the antenna 208.
- a part of the output signal is taken out by the directional coupler 209, converted into a frequency signal by the frequency converter 211 to an IF band signal as a feedback signal, converted into a digital signal by the A / D converter 212, and orthogonally converted.
- the detection unit 213 divides the signal into IQ signals.
- the I and Q feedback signals are adjusted by the feedback level correction unit 214 in the levels of the input signal and the feedback signal, the feedback delay correction unit 215 is adjusted in the delay of the input signal and the feedback signal, and input in the feedback phase difference correction unit 216.
- the phase difference between the signal and the feedback signal is adjusted and then input to the control unit 217.
- the control unit 217 detects an error component from the input signal and the feedback signal, updates the distortion compensation table 203 so as to reduce the error component, and performs adaptive control to follow a temperature change or the like.
- the distortion power only has to be increased or decreased as a detection value serving as an index for distortion compensation control. Since it is difficult to uniquely determine the compensation table 103 and the number of updates of the distortion compensation table 103 has to be increased, there is a problem that the convergence time becomes long.
- the number of updates of the distortion compensation table 203 is as follows.
- the distortion power detection type predistortion type distortion compensation amplifier can control the distortion even when the signal quality of the feedback signal is poor, but the distortion of the input / output signal comparison type predistortion type can be controlled.
- the compensation amplifier has a problem that even if distortion remains, if it is determined that the distortion has converged, the distortion compensation operation stops there.
- the present invention has been made in view of such a conventional situation, and when compensating for nonlinear distortion of an amplifier by a predistortion method, distortion compensation that can increase the speed of convergence of distortion compensation and improve the distortion compensation amount.

- the feedback signal acquisition means detects the signal amplified by the amplification means and acquires a feedback signal.
- the distortion level detection means detects the level of distortion included in the feedback signal for the signal amplified by the amplification means.
- the control means updates the stored contents of the distortion compensation mode storage means so that an error component between the signal to be amplified and the feedback signal acquired by the feedback signal acquisition means becomes small.
- the first update process is performed and the error component is reduced to satisfy a predetermined condition using a predetermined threshold value, the distortion level detected by the distortion level detection means is reduced. It switches so that the 2nd update process which updates the memory content of a distortion compensation aspect memory
- the first update process is performed with a low distortion compensation amount but a fast convergence, and when the above-described error component becomes small by a predetermined level (that is, when it converges by a predetermined level).
- the second update process by switching to perform the second update process with a slow convergence but a good distortion compensation amount, when compensating for the nonlinear distortion of the amplifier by the predistortion method, generally, the convergence speed of the distortion compensation is increased and the distortion compensation is performed. The amount can be improved.
- the distortion compensation mode storage means can be configured using a memory, for example.
- Various distortion compensation modes may be used.
- a control value for controlling the distortion amplitude and phase of the predistortion applied by the distortion applying means can be used.
- Various conditions may be used as the predetermined condition using the predetermined threshold in the first update process. For example, a condition for confirming that the error component described above has been sufficiently reduced. Is set.
