(nSTM-nSTE)×ΔL’+2×(nCTM-nCTE)×ΔL”=0
となるようにΔL”を調整することで、アレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器は、温度依存性と偏波依存性とを同時に無依存化し、PDLの影響を低減できる。

以下、本発明を実施するための形態を図面に基いて説明する。図6は本実施形態のアレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器106の形態を示す。本形態の特徴は、アレイ導波路に挿入した偏波依存性解消手段によってアレイ導波路の複屈折による偏波依存性及び温度補償手段の偏波依存性を解消する構造にある。以下、図面に基づいて詳細に説明する。
図7に、アレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器107の概略図を示す。アレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器107と図6のアレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器106との違いは、温度補償手段27がアレイ導波路15ではなく、入力スラブ導波路14に配置されていることである。温度補償手段27は、入力スラブ導波路14ではなく、出力スラブ導波路18に配置されていてもよい。
図9に、アレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器109の概略図を示す。アレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器109と図7のアレイ導波路回折格子型光合分波器107との違いは、偏波依存性解消手段17が斜めに配置されていないこと、アレイ導波路15の中心に配置されていないことである。また、直線部分15aに屈折率の偏波依存性分布が有り、導波路間屈折率差に偏波依存性がある。具体的には、アレイ導波路15の導波路長が短い方から長い方にかけてチャネル導波路の間隔が狭くなっている。例えば、アレイ導波路15の本数は250本であり、アレイ導波路15のチャネル導波路の最小間隔は15umで、チャネル導波路の間隔変化率は0.1~0.2%/本である。
図10に、マッハツェンダ型干渉計110の概略図を示す。マッハツェンダ型干渉計110は、導波路基板11上に石英系導波路で構成される。石英系導波路は、少なくとも1本以上の入力チャネル導波路13と、入力チャネル導波路13に接続される第1カプラ34と、第1カプラ34に接続される2本のチャネル導波路(35-1、35-2)と、2本のチャネル導波路(35-1、35-2)に施される偏波依存性解消手段17と、2本のチャネル導波路(35-1、35-2)に接続される第2カプラ38と、2本のチャネル導波路(35-1、35-2)にそれぞれ施され、2本のチャネル導波路(35-1、35-2)における光路長差の温度依存性を補償する温度補償手段(27-1、27-2)と、第2カプラ38に接続される少なくとも1本以上の出力チャネル導波路21と、を備える。
Claims (13)
- 導波路基板上に少なくとも1本以上の入力チャネル導波路と、
前記入力チャネル導波路に接続される入力スラブ導波路と、
前記入力スラブ導波路に接続される複数のチャネル導波路からなるアレイ導波路と、
前記アレイ導波路に施される偏波依存性解消手段と、
前記アレイ導波路に接続される出力スラブ導波路と、
前記入力スラブ導波路、前記出力スラブ導波路又は前記アレイ導波路に施され、前記アレイ導波路の前記チャネル導波路における光路長差の温度依存性を補償する温度補償手段と、
前記出力スラブ導波路に接続される少なくとも1本以上の出力チャネル導波路と、
を備える導波路型光デバイスであって、
前記偏波依存性解消手段が前記入力スラブ導波路から前記出力スラブ導波路までの各チャネルの偏波依存性を解消することを特徴とする導波路型光デバイス。 - 前記偏波依存性解消手段は、前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記入力スラブ導波路側の偏波モード間の光路長差を前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記出力スラブ導波路側の偏波モード間の光路長差で補償することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の導波路型光デバイス。
- 前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記入力スラブ導波路側において前記偏波依存性解消手段が前記入力スラブ導波路から前記偏波依存性解消手段までの長さのチャネル間差を補正する非対称補正長をΔL”としたとき、
前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記出力スラブ導波路側において前記偏波依存性解消手段が前記出力スラブ導波路から前記偏波依存性解消手段までの長さのチャネル間差を補正する非対称補正長は-ΔL”であり、
前記温度補償手段が挿入された部分の長さのチャネル間差をΔL’、前記温度補償手段を配置する入力スラブ導波路、出力スラブ導波路又はアレイ導波路の複屈折について前記アレイ導波路の複屈折による除をAとしたとき、
ΔL”=-A×ΔL’/2
であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の導波路型光デバイス。 - 前記偏波依存性解消手段は、前記アレイ導波路の各チャネル導波路の光軸に対して所定の角度で設置したことを特徴とする請求項1から3に記載のいずれかの導波路型光デバイス。
- 前記アレイ導波路のうち前記偏波依存性解消手段が配置される部分が直線であることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の導波路型光デバイス。
- 前記アレイ導波路におけるチャネル導波路の屈折率のチャネル間差に偏波依存性があり、前記偏波依存性解消手段の位置が前記アレイ導波路の中心より前記入力スラブ導波路側又は前記出力スラブ導波路側に寄っていることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の導波路型光デバイス。
- 前記アレイ導波路のうち前記偏波依存性解消手段が配置される部分が直線であることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の導波路型光デバイス。
- 前記偏波依存性解消手段近傍における前記アレイ導波路の前記チャネル導波路の間隔がそれぞれ異なることを特徴とする請求項6又は7に記載の導波路型光デバイス。
- 導波路基板上に少なくとも1本以上の入力チャネル導波路と、
前記入力チャネル導波路に接続される第1カプラと、
前記第1カプラに接続される2本のチャネル導波路と、
前記2本のチャネル導波路に施される偏波依存性解消手段と、
前記2本のチャネル導波路に接続される第2カプラと、
前記2本のチャネル導波路の少なくとも1つに施され、前記2本のチャネル導波路における光路長差の温度依存性を補償する温度補償手段と、
前記第2カプラに接続される少なくとも1本以上の出力チャネル導波路と、
を備える導波路型光デバイスであって、
前記偏波依存性解消手段が前記第1カプラから前記第2カプラまでの各チャネルの偏波依存性を解消することを特徴とする導波路型光デバイス。 - 前記偏波依存性解消手段は、前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記第1カプラ側の偏波モード間の光路長差を前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記第2カプラ側の偏波モード間の光路長差で補償することを特徴とする請求項9に記載の導波路型光デバイス。
- 前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記第1カプラ側において前記偏波依存性解消手段が前記第1カプラから前記偏波依存性解消手段までの長さのチャネル間差を補正する非対称補正長をΔL”としたとき、
前記偏波依存性解消手段の前記第2カプラ側において前記偏波依存性解消手段が前記第2カプラから前記偏波依存性解消手段までの長さのチャネル間差を補正する非対称補正長は-ΔL”であり、
前記温度補償手段が挿入された部分の長さのチャネル間差をΔL’としたとき、
ΔL”=-ΔL’/2
であることを特徴とする請求項9又は10に記載の導波路型光デバイス。 - 前記偏波依存性解消手段は、前記2本のチャネル導波路の光軸に対して所定の角度で設置したことを特徴とする請求項9から11に記載のいずれかの導波路型光デバイス。
- p本(pは2以上の整数)の導波路と、
p本の前記導波路に施される偏波依存性解消手段と、
p本又は(p-1)本の前記導波路に施され、p本の前記導波路における光路長差の温度依存性を補償する温度補償手段と、を備え、
前記偏波依存性解消手段は、前記偏波依存性解消手段の一方の側の偏波モード間の光路長差を他方の側の偏波モード間の光路長差で補償することを特徴とする導波路型光デバイス。
