Abstract

 本発明の重合性光学活性化合物は、下記一般式(1)で表されるものであり、高い螺旋誘起力を有し、液晶組成物に添加することで、液晶組成物の物理的性質、光学的性質を大きく損なうことなく必要なヘリカルピッチ長を達成することができる。本発明の重合性光学活性化合物は、液晶材料、特にコレステリック相を示す液晶材料に配合されて、耐熱性、耐溶剤性、透明性、光学特性及び液晶配向固定化能に優れた光学異方体作製用材料として好ましく用いられる他、液晶配向膜、液晶配向制御剤、コーティング材、保護板作製材料等に用いることができる。(上記一般式(1)中、X1及びX2は(メタ)アクリロイルオキシ基を表し、Y1及びY2は各々独立して、単結合、炭素原子数1~8の分岐を有してもよいアルキレン基、エーテル結合、チオエーテル結合、-COO-、-OCO-、-OCO-O-、-S-CO-、-CO-S-、置換基を有してもよい6員環、置換基を有してもよいナフタレン環、又はこれらの組み合わせを表す。)
