Definitions
- the invention relates to a bottle-like container made of plastic according to the preamble of claim 1 and claim 15.
- Containers of this type are known for products which can be removed by the consumer by crushing the container. These consist of compact plastic, preferably of polyolefins with a density around 0.9 to 0.97 g / cm 3 . In the course of efforts to reduce the cost of materials for packaging, attempts were made to reduce the wall thicknesses. The reduction in the cost of materials for packaging is an ecological target today. Less use of material contributes to a more favorable ecological balance of the packaging and the product.
- Packaging must be recycled.
- the costs of recycling are calculated based on the weight of the packaging.
- the cost of recycling plastic packaging is particularly high. In Germany, for example, these costs are higher than the actual material price.
- the efforts to reduce the use of materials in the case of the containers according to the prior art have so far been limited.
- a 250 ml bottle could be developed through optimization work to a lower limit weight of 20 g polypropylene.
- the wall thickness on the outer surface of this bottle then has a thickness of approximately 0.7 mm.
- hollow foam bodies are known which are produced in the extrusion blow molding process and in other further processes. Only in the extrusion blow molding process is it possible to produce hollow bodies - and thus also hollow foam bodies - in a practically arbitrary design in one work step in a heat of fusion directly from the extruder, as is necessary for containers for liquids such as personal care products.
- Other methods which generally start from a round or flat foamed semi-finished product, are limited to a few shapes, such as round or other simple geometric basic shapes.
- These bodies or containers are intended, for example, for the purpose of thermal insulation, better dimensional stability or, for example, the lining of the container. They are also partially described as consumer goods such as pots. Their construction has a volume greater than 1 liter and the wall thicknesses are more than 1.2 mm. The aim is to achieve the lowest possible foam density.
- DE-A 15 04 359 describes that, when trying to achieve satisfactory low foam densities, an uncontrollable expansion occurs during the extrusion of the tube and it is impossible to regulate the wall thickness.
- Foamed containers are also described as packaging containers. However, these have larger pouring openings, so that the container wall does not have a special removal function such as deforming and returning to the initial state (crunching) for metering. Furthermore, the foamed containers have the disadvantage that their outer surface is uneven. This unevenness leads to reduced acceptance by the consumer.
- bottle-like containers can now be realized for products which the consumer takes out by crunching, which require 10 to 30% less material to be used than conventional bottles, but which have the same quality appeal and suitability for use as bottles made of compact plastic material with a higher operating weight.
- the bottle-like packaging container which is reduced in the use of materials, is provided with a closable mouth, the container wall for the dispensing of the contents being deformable by hand for crunching through the mouth opening.
- the mouth opening is smaller than the container jacket / body.
- the container wall is there completely or largely from foamed plastic, preferably from foamed polyolefins such as PP, PE or their copolymers, the density of the foamed material being 10 to 30% less than the density of the same unfoamed material.
- the wall thickness of the container is - as is customary for packaging bottles of the same type - less than 1.5 mm, preferably 0.5 to 1 mm, in the jacket area.
- the container can be produced directly from the melt in one extrusion blow molding process.
- the foam is produced by adding a chemical blowing agent such as polycarboxylic acid and carbonate compounds which, using extruder screws with a high mixing and homogenizing effect, form finely divided gas bubbles in the plastic melt.
- this state is to be described as a thinned bottle wall in the interior of the wall due to uniformly distributed cavities.
- the casing of the container by means of a container decoration has the advantage that a smooth outer surface on the container is achieved.
- the container decoration leads to a familiar appearance of the container for a consumer and a similar manual gripping behavior.
- the container decoration can be used for consumer information.
- the container decoration can also consist of a compact material which makes up a maximum of 20% of the total wall thickness, wherein the container decoration can be a different type of material than the foamed material.
- the container decoration can be a film made of plastic, paper or plastic / paper composite. The film can be fixed on the container by means of shrinking, gluing, stretching tension or combinations of these types.
- the design of the container is carried out in such a way that the container can be largely enclosed over the entire area by the decorative film.
- a barrier material such as PA or EVOH
- Foam plastic containers are known in the form of cups, trays, etc. These objects are mostly produced from semi-finished products such as foils by shaping and deep-drawing - mostly from foamed polystyrene - and are said to be dimensionally stable. These containers mostly have wall thicknesses greater than 2 mm. The density of the foamed material is below 50%, often below 10% of the density of the starting material. Foamed foils with smaller wall thicknesses are also known. These foils are processed into bags.
- the invention it is now possible to produce usable, smooth packaging containers with up to 30% less material used for the foamed container.
- a 250 ml bottle made of PP with an operating weight of 15 g.
- the wall in the jacket area of the foamed bottle measures approximately 0.7 mm, the polypropylene foam material having a density of approximately 0.72 g / cm 3 .
- the surface structure ("orange peel") of the bottle, which is rough due to the foam, can be covered in a simple manner with a compact, smooth container decoration of the same or different material. to restore the aesthetic impression of a smooth surface.
- FIG. 1 shows a side view with a partial vertical section of a bottle-like container made of foamed plastic with a glued-on container decoration surrounding the container, and
- FIG. 2 shows a side view with a partial vertical section of a foamed container with a closure, the jacket wall of the container being shown separately in an enlarged detail and the jacket wall being surrounded by a shrink film as a container decoration.
- FIG. 1 shows a bottle-like container 1 made of plastic with a crushable jacket wall 2, which essentially consists of foamed plastic 3 and is surrounded by a container decoration 4.
- the foamed plastic 3 is preferably a polyolefin such as polypropylene or polyethylene or a copolymer thereof.
- the plastic 3 has a minimum of 10% and max. 30% lower density than the density of the same non-foamed plastic.
- a wall thickness of less than 2 mm or from 0.5 to 1 mm is provided as the jacket wall 2.
- a metering or injection insert 6 with a metering opening 7 is provided for metering a liquid product. However, a separate insert 6 can also be dispensed with by providing a correspondingly smaller bottle neck opening.
- the container decoration 4 consists of a plastic / paper composite 5 and is glued to the container 1 by means of an adhesive 10.
- a shrink film 8 is shrunk onto the container 1 shown in FIG. 2 as container decoration 4.
- the container 1 is closed by means of a closure 9. The film ends at the top below the closure 9, so that the entire visible jacket wall of the bottle is covered.
- the two containers 1 shown are provided with an essentially circular, rectangular or oval container base or container cross-sectional area at least in the crumple area.
