Definitions

  • the invention relates to the technical field of telecommunications and the input and output periphery of data processing systems. It has an image-processing input periphery for computer systems with the special feature of a possibility for the user to correct the correctness of the OCR (or OMR. Translation of his entries).
  • the invention is intended to bring about integration between these two functional areas "fax” (generally: image processing devices) and "computer terminal”.
  • the invention thus consists of a fax machine (always synonymous with “image processing device”), the keyboard of which is expanded by additional control buttons; these have the following functions:
  • An "OCR key” starts reading in a sheet of paper and converting the image information into codes, temporarily storing them and converting the codes back into image form, and printing them out immediately for control purposes
  • a "delete button” deletes the last generated and saved codes and images from the fax memory
  • a "code send key” puts the fax machine in the operating mode to send the last stored code to a recipient address then entered (which can be a fax number, but need not be), or to be fed to an internal predefined processing
  • An "Image / code send button” puts the fax machine in the operating mode to feed both the code last stored and the underlying image to the processing described under the above point
  • a card reader unit performs one or more functions of the keys described by pulling a magnetic or chip card, e.g. sends the code to a destination fax number stored on the card in one go
  • the subject matter of the invention therefore functions as follows: insert paper into the slot of the fax machine. Press the "OCR button”. Then printout of a "control output”. Check that it matches the template. If not correct, press the "delete key”, repeat the process. If the result is the same this time, press the "code key”, enter the destination fax number, press the "start key”.
  • Image processing devices the most common of which are fax machines, could perform more demanding tasks than is known today. They use the medium “paper” that is most familiar to humans. However, the human expression “font-image” must first be translated into machine-readable code. However, the conversion by "OCR software” (which can also be integrated in the input device); Is often not of sufficient quality - legibility of handwriting will always remain the problem. This has hitherto prevented the use of image processing devices as "input terminals" for a wide variety of purposes. The creation of the possibility for the user to correct his input solves this Problem in a pragmatic way.
