ERWIN M. JENNINGS AND CHARLES S. MOSMAN, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTI- CUT, ASSIGNORS TO THE JENNINGS BROTHERS MANUFACTURING COM- PANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A CLOCK-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,161, dated March 5, 1901.
Application filed February 6, 1901. Serial No. 46,272- Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ERWIN M. JENNINGS and CHARLES S. IVIOSMAN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Clock-Cases, of which the following is a specification, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure l is a front elevation of our novel design of clock-case, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material features of our design consist of an ornamented clock-case, substantially as herein shown, and as willnow be described in detail.
Four legs A, having rope and scroll ornamentations B and C, respectively, are formed integral with the clock-case and form a part thereof. The lower portion of the case is contracted, as at D, and is provided with a centrally-arranged raised shield E. Around this shield is gracefully shown a series of scroll, bead, and leaf ornamentation, and depending therefrom is a series of concave streamers G. A scroll H is located beneath the shield in substantially a vertical position with a shell ornamentation within said scroll. Smaller scrolls I are shown adjacent to and at either side of this central figure, forming a part of the two front corners of the case. At either side of the front of the base of the case is a shell effect J, artistically arranged, producing projecting corners, as shown. Slightly above the shield, at either side, is shown a flower K, and on the outer side therefrom a series of scrolls L, some of which form a part of the edge of the case. The central opening M for the movement is provided with an ornamented border or ring N, and on either side of this is shown a Cupids face 0, appearing as from beneath a graceful scroll P, which latter in part again forms the corners of the clockcase. Above the opening for the movement is located a dolphin-like figure Q, the head'of which appears in the foreground, with a tail deflected back and upward in a graceful manner, with a series of small scrolls surrounding the same. At each side of this figure is located a series of outwardly-deflected scrolls R with an edge in rope effect and the ends deflected upward, forming extensions, as shown.
In addition to the ornamentations above described and appearing principally upon the front of the case are those of the sides, which are substantially alike and comprise a central rope-like figure S at the bottom with a leaf effect on either side thereof. A shell ornamentation T, similar to that on the front edge, appears on the rear of the case adjacent to the leaf ornamentations referred to. Above the central rope decoration appears a series of concave streamers U, with a divided scroll bordering the upper rear edge thereof. Above these scrolls the remainder of the rear edge (or corners) of the case is ornamented with a series of scrolls V attractively arranged, and central of the sides of the case and interme- 7o diate of the said scrolls and the scroll P is indicated a series of bell ornamentations W,
as shown.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, is
The design fora clock-case, as herein shown and described.
Signed at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, this 31st day of January, A. D. 1991.
