UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY BERRY, OF SHELTON, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE DERBY SILVER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESlGN FOR A SUGAR-BOWL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,530, dated June 13, 1893.
Application filed May 10, 1893 Serial No. 473,736. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shelton, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Sugar-Bowl and other Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, and showing, in-
Figure 1, a perspective viewof a sugar bowl embodying and bearing my design, and at Fig. 2 a top view of same.
The leading features of my design consist in the shape of the article and the ornamentation thereon,as represented in the drawings.
In the drawings A denotes the sugar bowl; B the cover therefor, and C the handles for said bowl.
The bowl is composed of the main swelled body portion D and the contracted neck E, the latter being gracefully curved outward at its upper and lower ends, as shown, and having at its upper edge the flange F, while at its lower edge its curved lines gracefully meet and merge into the ornate curvature of the swelled body portion D. At the lower end of the bowl is the base G having rounded edges, and below this base are the supporting legs H, of fanciful scroll outline and bearing scroll ornamentation I. The flange F is circularin outline and bears the line of scroll ornamentation J shown more clearlyin Fig. 2.
The cover B rests within the line of ornamentation J and has a prominent rounded apex K, whence, on concave lines, the lower portion of the cover flares outward to its extreme circular edges. The apex K of the cover B is surmounted by an ornamental scroll knob L Upon the body of the bowl A is a handle M, or a duplication of said handles, as may be required, and said handle is composed of the main ornamental portion N surmounted by the foliate and floral scroll O and meeting at its upper and lower ends respectively the ornamental scrolls P, Q.
\Vhat I claim is- The design for a sugar bowl and other articles, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at Chicago, in the State of Illinois, this 4th day of May, A. D. 1893.
HENRY BERRY.
