Description

DESIGN.
H. BERRY. SUGAR BOWL.
Patented Oct. 25, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY BERRY, OF SllEI/l'ON, CONNEC'IICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE DERBY SILVER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SUGAR-BOWL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,922, dated October 25, 1892.
Application filed September 15, 1892. Serial No. 4461023. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,llENRY BERRY,a citizen of the United States, residing at Shelton, in the countyof Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Sugar-Bowl and other Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, and showing at-- Figure 1, a side elevation of a sugar-bowl bearing my design; at Fig. 2, a top view of the same, and at Fig. 3 a detached portion of the rim of same.
The leading features of my design consist in the shape of the article and the surface ornamentation on the opposite sides of the body thereof, as represented in the drawings.
In the drawings, A designates the body of the bowl, and said body is formed with the contracted neck B, surmounted by the substantially-horizontal flange C and gracefully meeting the curve of the swelled main body portion D, which, as shown, has rather an abrupt curved outline at its upper part, and thence curves gradually downward and inward to the base E, having legs F, the latter bearing the ornamental foliate scrolls ti. The body portion I) of the bowl has at regular intervals the vertical ornamental curved indentations I, which narrow toward their upper ends and terminate in the fanciful scrolls J. Between the indentations I there is on opposite sides of the body portion I) the ornate couventionalized floral and foliate scroll figure K, as shown in Fig. 1. Upon the upper surface of the flange C is the continuous line of ornamentation L, composed of foliate and floral scrolls, as shown in Fig. 3, and within the circle of said ornamentation L is placed the cover M, which is bell-shaped and has at its apex the ornamental-scroll knob N. Upon the cover M, at opposite sides of the knob N, are the ornamental conventionalized foliate and floral scrolls O P, as shown more clearly in Fig. 2. Some articles of a silver tea-set may not requirea cover, and in such instances the cover M will not necessarily be used. Upon the body D is the handle Q or a duplication of such handles, as may be required, and said handle is composed of the main ornamental-scroll figure R, bearing the floral spray S and at its lower end disappearing in the foliate scroll '1, while at its upper end it meets the reversely-curved scroll V, extending outward from the neck B and bearing the floral ornament W, as shown in Fig. 1.
\Vhat I claim is- 1. In the design for a sugar-bowl or other article, the design for the cover, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a sugar-bowl or other article, substzmtially as shown and described.
Signed at Shelton, in the State of Counecticut, this 8th day of September, 1892.
HENRY BERRY.
