III'INRY J. SMITH, OF IITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T() URYUE, \VALKEI{ & CO., OF SAME lLACli.
DESIGN FOR A CREAM-PITCHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,189, dated March 15` 1881.
Application tiled January "2li, 1881. Terni of patent years.
To all whom it muy concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county ot' Allegheny and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cream-Pitchers, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my newlydesigned cream-pitcher, which presents the same appearance view. Fig. 2 is an elevation, in perspective, of the same.
The leading feature of my design consists in the upward and outward curvature of the two pouring-lips in opposite directions from the top ofthe vase or main body of the pitcher, and the arrangement of the two handles on opposite sides of the pitcher and 'under the curves of the lips, thus giving the article a symmetrical and balanced effect to the eye.
A subsidiary feature of my design consists in a bead surrounding the top of the vase or main body of the pitcher and forming a base from which the curved lips spring upward and outward in opposite directions, while their curved edges terminate in narrow webs sprin ging from said bead and having corrugated upper edges, which join with the edges of the lips in continuous outline.
The design also consists in the handles, each formed of two rings joined edgewise, one below the other, and projecting from the vase or Inain body of the pitcher directly under the curves of the lips.
The separate features, while being ornamental and ot' pleasing appearance in themselves, combine to form a. unitary etfect of symmetry and graceful poise.
The letter A designates the vase or main body of the pitcher; B, the bead at its top; C C, the upwardly and outwardly curved lips springingin oppositedircctions from this bead; and D D are the narrow webs connecting the lips and having the corrugated upper edge, which joins the edges of the lips in continuous outline.
from the opposite point of` li E are the handles, projecting from opposite sides of the vase or main body ot' the pitcher directly under the curves of the lips, each of these handles being composed of two rings, one below and joined to the other.
The relative arrangement ot" the various features produces a neat, symmetrical, and highly ornamental ensemble.
I claim- 1. The design for a cream-pitcher, consisting in the vase or Inain body A, having the two upwardly and outwardly curved lips C C, projecting from opposite sides of its top, and the two handles projecting from said vase direetly under the curves ot the lips.
2. The design for a eream-pitcher, consisting in the vase having the bead B at its top and forming a base from which the lips C U spring upwardly and outwardly, and the narrow webs D D, having the corrugated edges, which join with the edges ot' the lips in continuous outline. 3. The design for a cream-pitcher, consisting ot' the vase or main body A, having the two lips U C curving upwardly and outwardly from opposite sides of its top, and the two handles E E, projecting from the vase directly under the curves of the lips, and each composed ot' two rings joined edge to edge, one below the other.
4. The design for a cream-pitcher, consisting in the vase or main body A, the bead B, surrounding its top, the two lips C C, curving upwardly and outwardly in opposite directions from said bead, the narrow webs D D, connecting the lips and having the corrugated upper edges, which join with the edges of lips in continuous outline, and the two handles E E, each composed of two rings joined one below the other and projecting from the vase or main body directly under the curves of the lips.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
