Design No.18,200,dated March 27,1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
FRANCIS BILLINGHAM, OF BROOKLYN, NINV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A LAMP OR LANTERN BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,200I dated March 27, 1888.
Application filed February 3, 1888. Serial No. 262,938. Term of patent 14 years.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, FRANcIs BILLING-HAM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the cityT of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Body of a Lamp or Lantern, of which the following is a specication, reference being had to the aceompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which- Figure l shows a side elevation in perspective; Fig. 2, the form of horizontal sections on lines a b and ef; Fig. 3, the form of borizontal section on line c d.
The leading feature of my design consists in the curvilinear shape of outline or outer contour of the lamp-body proper-that is, exclw sive of the form of the canopy, which may vary or be dispensed with.
A is a lamp-body proper, which, asis shown, is oval or egg-shaped in outer contour, with four flattened or plane surfaces,of oval or elli ptical outline, depressing or breaking the curving lines of its four sides, s0 that horizontal sections on the lines of ab and ef show circular outlines, and a. horizontal section on the line of e d will show the outline of a square with blunt corners, as shown by Figs. 2 and 3. Ornamental studs, as i i iii, are arranged ou the curved surface ofthe body, substantially as shown, thus breaking its plain ness and producing a pleasing embellishment, which may be more conspicuous when of contrasting colors.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The design for a lamp-body herein shown and described, the saule consisting of a curvilineargure presenting an oval or eggshaped form or outer contour with flattened sides, the outlines of which are oval or elliptic, and having ornamental studs contrasting in color embellishing the curved surfaces, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 27th day of January,
FRANCIS BILLINGHAM. Witnesses:
ELLIOTT G. ALBEE, FRANK W. BELMONT.
