DESIGN.
H. BERRY. SUGAR BOWL.
No. 21,921. Patented Oct. 25, 1892.
INVENTO)? 07,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY BERRY, OF SHELTON, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE DERBY SILVER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SUGAR-BOWL.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 21,921, dated October 25, 1892.
Application filed September 16, 1892. Serial No. 446,022. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shelton, in the county of Fair-field and State of Con necticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Sugar-Bowl and other Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, and showin g at- Figure 1, a side elevation of a sugar-bowl bearing my design; at Fig. 2, a perspective view of the cover of the same, and at Fig. 3 a portion of the rim of the bowl.
The leading features of my design consist in the shape of the article, the band of sur face ornamentation extending around the body of the bowl thereof, and the ornate form of the handle thereon, as represented in the drawings.
In the drawings, A designates the bowl, having at its upper edge the outwardly-flaring annular lip B, which receives within it the lower edge of the cover 0, and below which said bowl has a contracted neck D, which at its lower edge by a graceful curve meets the main outwardly-swelled body E. The lower portion of the body E curves inward at F and meets the edges of the base G, upon which the bowl rests.
Upon the body E is the band II, formed between the raised continuous bead I and line of independent beads J, and upon this band II, which extends entirely around the body, is the conventionalized foliate ornamentation composed of the scrolls a b c, as shown, forming together a complete ornamental figure, which is duplicated on the band around the body.
Above the band H and on opposite sides of c the bowl there is the ornamental figure K, composed of the floral and foliate scrolls lettered d e f, as shown in Fig. 1. The flaring lip B around the upper edge of the bowl is ornamented by a line of scroll figures, each 45 composed of the parts 9 h i, and below these figures is the line of heading L, located at the point of union between the lip B and neck D. The cover C has a convex upper surface and at its center a knob M, and around this knob the said convex surface bears the conventionalized foliate-scroll ornamentation N, as shown in Fig. 2. Some articles of a silver tea-set may not require a cover, and in such instances the cover C will not necessarily be used.
Upon the body E is the handle P, or a doplication of such handle,as may be required, and said handle is composed of the main ornamentul-scroll figure Q, bearing the floral spray R and at its lower end disappearingin the foliate scroll S, while at its upper end it meets the reversely-curved scroll T, extending outward from the neck D and bearing the flower ornament V, as shown in Fig. 1.
What I claim is- 1. In the design for a sugar-bowl or other article, the design for the cover, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a sugar-bowl or other article, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at Shelton, in the State of Connecticut, this 8th day of September, 1892.
HENRY BERRY.
