DESIGN FOR A COOKlNG STOVE OR RANGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,369, dated December 1, 1896.

Application filed October 20, 1896. Serial No. 609,467. Term of patent 7 years To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN J. GRAVES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented and produced anew and original Design for Cooking Stoves or Ranges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My new and original design has for its object to ornament a cooking stove or range so that it shall be attractive in appearance.

In the accompanying dra wings,wherci1 1 m 5' design is illustrated, Figure 1 is a side view of a stove embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a front view thereof.

The leading and characteristic features of my design are the surface ornamentation of the stove as a whole and of the several segregablc features thereof, to be hereinafter pointed out.

The base of the stove, consisting of the legs 2 and the Skirting between the legs 3, is covered with foliated scrollwork, as clearly represented in the drawings.

The plates of the body of the stove where exposed to view are likewise ornamented with a foliatcd scroll design, which is elaborated to suit the space which the design is to occupy. Thus the front stove-plate above the hearth 4 and on either side of the front door is ornamented, as represented at 5 5. The side plate below the ash-box is ornamented as at 6 and adjacent to the oven-door as at 7.

The plate which constitutes the end of the reservoir 8 has practically its entire surface covered with ornamentation, which is worked out in bold lines, this being permitted because of the size of the space to be covered.

The ovcndoor is provided with a reniform ornament 0, upon which is a design of a rose.

Surrounding this rcnitorni ornament is tellated serollwork. The ornament 9 is most effective when nickel-plated, the surrounding scrollwork being in black iron.

The design of the door 11 at the end of the fire-chamber has the characteristic features of the other parts of the design, the details being worked out to suit the shape of the door-surface which it is to cover.

The front door 12, immediately above the hearth I, bears the name-plate 13, the lower edge of which is curved or bowed upward. The parts of this door not covered by the name-plate are ornamented, as indicated in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my newand original design, what I claim, and desire to secure by letters Patent, is-

1. In a design for a cooking stove or range, the design for the base, substani ial lyas shown and described.
