UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRIC M. PARKER, OF \VORUESTER, lllASSACIlUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO VWILLIAM JAMES IlOGG, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,226, dated March 8, 1896.
Application filed D cember 16, 1895. Serial No. 572,371. Term of patent 3i years.
To all whom it may concern.-
' Be it known that I, FREDRIO M. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon carpeting or other similar fabric; and I do hereby declare that the drawing accompanying this specification gives and conveys to any one skilled in the art of carpetweaving a clear understanding of the same that is sufficient to enable such person to use my invention.
The said drawing is a face view of a carpet embodying my design.
The drawing illustrates a body and aborder.
The body Aconsists of a substantially uniform groundwork, upon which appear similar figures arranged diagonally as to each other. Each figure consists of a vertical stem spreading into a leafy ornamental top and having a lozenge-shaped base. Upon each side is placed flowing leafwork, curving into scrolls at each end. These are all connected by a straight horizontal bar, so as to form one figure having the general characteristics of a fleur-de-lis. The bottom scrolls of each figure are connected with the top scrolls of each figure diagonally below it by hanging festoons 0f flowers and leaves.
The border B consists of a groundwork of substantially the same character as the body A. On this appears the same figure as in the body of the carpet. Beneath this figure is a festoon or hanging wreath of flowers and leaves, appearing to be attached to the outer margin by a bow of ribbon with loose or flying ends. The inner margin of the border is defined by a series of small figures or fieurde-lis, connected with each other by three links. The outer margin consists of a series of ornamental leafy figures resembling the ornamental top of the central stem of the figure in the body A. Between these is placed a difierent figure of the same style. These figures appear to rest upon a narrow orna mental band.
The colors employed for the diiterent portions of this design maybe varied to suit the taste or convenience of the manufacturer.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a design for carpeting, the body A, substantially as shown.
2. In a design for carpeting, the border 13, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the body A and the border B, substantially as shown.
