Be it known that I, GEORGE F. Gmsncnn, of Leipsic, Saxony, Empire of United Germany, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Type, of which the following is a specification.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographieimpression, to which reference is made; and it consists of an unsliaded script letter of the class known as back-]1and, in which, as in the A, B, D,F,

"M, N, P, R, and Z, the upper left-l1and portion of the letter is curved to the right and terminates in the dot, and in the B, 1), F, M, N, and It crosses and is extended upon the right hand ofthe up-anddown portion, while in the A and l it extends beyond and upon the left of the up-and-down portion. In the E, G, O, and Q, the terminations upon the right are curved and terminate in the dot. The upper riglithand termination of ille O and L is curved and terminates in the dot. In the F, H, and K the upper portion of the letters is curved, as shown. In the B, I), and J the lower leftshand termination is curved upon the left of the up anddown portion and terminates in the dot. The central ornament ofthe A, E, and F consists of theliglit curved line with dot termination. Both the upper and lower portions of the I are curved, as shown. The lower left-hand portion of the S is curved and has the dot termination. The lower portion of the L, M, and N upon the right is curved into dot termination. The upper left-liand portion of the T, V, and V is curved, as shown. The U is ornamented by the lower cross ornament, consisting of the curved line with dot termination. The lower portion of the T is curved upon the right hand and has the dot termination. The upper riglithand termination of the V and W is curved to the left and has the dot termination. The upper right-hand portion oi the X is curved, and its cross ornament consists of the curved line with dot termination. The lower left hand portion of the X, Y, and Z is curved, as shown.

As far as possible the character of the de sign is preserved in the numerals, notably the 3, 5, 6, 9, and 0, and in the lower-case, nota bly the c, e, f, g, k, o, s, V, and y.

Having now described my invention, I claimM The design for a font of printing-type, as shown and described, the same consisting` oi' an unsliaded script letter of the class known as back-hand, in which, as in the A, 15,1), F, M, N, l), lt, and Z, the upper left-hand portion of the letter is curved to the right and terminates in the dot, and in the B, D, F, M, N, and R crosses and is extended upon the right hand of the up-and-down portion, while inthe A and P it extends beyond and upon the left of the upand-down portion, in the E, G, O, and Q the terminations upon the right curved and terminating .in the dot, the upper right-hand termination of the C and L eurved and terminating in the dot, the F, H, and 1i having the upper portion of the letter curved, as shown, the B, l), and J having the lower left-hand termination curved upon the left of the up-anddown portion and terminating in the dot, the central ornament of the A, E, and F consisting of the light curved line with dot termination, botli the upper and lower poi tions of the I curved, as shown, the lower lei`tl1and portion of the S curved and having the dot termination, the lower portion ofthe L, M, and N upon the right curved and llaving the dot termination, the upper left-hand portion of the T, V, and XV curved, as shown, the U ornamented by the lower cross orna ment, consisting of a curved line with dot ter mination, the lower portion of the T curved upon the right hand and having the dot termination, the upper right-hand termination ofthe V and W curved to the left and having the dot termination, the upper right-hand poi tion of the X curved and its cross ornament consisting ol' the curved line with dot termination, the lower left-liand portion of the X, Y, and Z curved, as shown, and as far as possible the character of the design preserved in the numerals, notably the 3, 5, 6, 9, and (l, and in the lowercase, notably the c, e, f, g, k, o, s, v, and y.
