DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,270, dated May 17, 1881.

Application filed April 6, 1881. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUST WILL, (assignor to DAVID WOLFE BRUCE,)Of Jersey City, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented and produced a new Design fora Font of Printing- Type, of which the following is a specification.

The nature of my design is clearl v shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and it consists of an :o ornamental letter shaded upon the right and below by a series of short, light, horizJntal lines, the shading following the configuration of the letters. The upper and lower terminations of the letters are ornamented by the I5 curved lines, terminating in the dot termination in the case of the A, B, C, E, F, G, J, L, S, X, and Z. In the letter Hit is found at each end of the central line of the letter;'in the letters K, P, and R, at the upper portions 0t the letters upon the right. in the letters M, N, V, and W the looped ornamentation occurs at the base of the letters. Inthe letter O the upper left-hand termination is ornamented by the curved termination with dot ornamenta 2 5 tion, from which proceeds a vertical line with dot ornamentation. Below the rounding portion of the P is placed a short vertical line with curved upper portion. The lower portion of the Q is ornamented by the curved line with dot termination, and further by a vertical line 0 within it with dotornamentation. The upper portions of the T, W, and Y are ornamented by the curved lines with (lot terminations. The

S and X are crossed about centrally by the curved line with dot terminations. Upon the right of the left-hand up-and-(lown portion of the U occurs the looped line with dot termination.

In the symbol &,'in the punctuation-marks, and in the figures and dollar and pound marks 40 the character of the design is preserved, the curved line with (lot termination being found in the &,the comma,the hyphen, the apostrophe, the interrogation-nmrk, in all the figures save the 0,in the dollar-|nark,and as the cross 5 line of the pound-mark.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new is- The design for a font of printing-type, as shown and set forth.
