Description
E. IHLENBURG.
FONT 0F PRINTING TYPE.
No. 12,966. Patented June 13,1882.
(4mm Hews Bemk @FICBGK UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMAN IHLENBURG, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO MACKELLAR, SMITHS 8; JORDAN, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
Application filed April 11, 1892.
Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN IHLENBURG, (assignor to MACKELLAR, SMITHS & Joanmy) ot'the city and county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Type,ot' which the followingis a specification.
The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to
lo which reference is made; and it consists ofa letter of the medireval character, ornamented by the light scroll ornaments, as shown.
The cross-lines of the A and It are shaded by the light line below, as shown.
15 The character of the design is preserved in the lower-ease and numerals.
The present application will be found to difl for from the design patented by me March 12, 1878, No. 10,517, as follows: The design No.
10,517 shows a letter of the Egyptian character, while the present design presents a letter formed, as it were, by combining the styles known as Egyptian and Clarendon. The present letter is more extended, and in the letters A and J the curl or scroll terminations characterize the lower termination upon left hand. In the present design the curl or scroll termination extends nearerthebase of theletter than in the Patent No. 10,517. The letters I), H, K, N, S, U, and V show the curl or scroll o termination not found in the Design PatentNo. 10,517. The letters M and W in the present case do not show the central loop termination, asiuNo.10,5l7; bntin the M the central partof the letter is formed ofthe vertical line, crossed, as shown, by a short heavy horizontal line, and
in the W the central portion of the letter forms the triangular-like ornament, as shown in the 1 and Z. In the present application the bottom termination is extended upon the right hand and has the curl or scroll termination, which is not found in the same letters in No. 10,517.
Having now described my invention, I claim 5 The design for a font of printing-type, as
shown and described.
C. F. HUGH, HERMAN .ME'IIUS.
