Abstract
1520721 Copper alloy OLIN CORP 2 Feb 1977 [6 Feb 1976(2)] 04215/77 Heading C7A [Also in Division B3] A spinodal, precipitation hardened copper base alloy useful in particular for electrical contact springs contains: Ni 10-30 Al 1-5 Cu Balance with Up to 20% in total of the optional additives Zn, Sn Fe 0À01-10% each Ti, Zr, Hf, Be, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo W - 0À01-5% each together with up to 5% in total of Pb, As, Sb, B, P, Mn, Si, La (mel Ce/Rare earths)Mg and/or Li-0À00+-3% each. The alloy is hot worked, preferably rolled, at a finishing temperature over 400‹C, solution treated 650‹C-1100‹C, and either quenched or slow cooled to room temperature, where it may be further cold worked before or after ageing at 250-650‹C to give a precipitation of Ni 3 Al and optionally a second precipitate from the additive element(s). The morphology of the precipitate is controlled by the type of quench from the solution treatment temperature.
