Abstract

Aluminium-base alloys containing 2 to 7% by weight of copper, both zinc and magnesium being absent, or present only as impurities not exceeding 0.02% and 0.25% respectively are solution treated for 1/4 to 12 hours at 900-1050 DEG F. quenched, strain hardened by cold working, and then aged for 2 to 48 hours at 275-400 DEG F., the ageing temperature varying inversely with the amount of cold work. The alloy may also contain any of the following: .Mn.0.15-1.5 .V.0.05-0.20 .Zr.0.05-0.3 .Ti, Mo, W,.0.01-0.25 of each .Cr, B, Ni, Co.Not more than 0.25 in total .Ta, Nb. .Pb, Bi.0.1-0.75 of each
