Abstract
An alloy has the following composition: Ta 35-70%, b stabilizing element or elements 2-20%, the balance being titanium. Up to 15% of Nb may also be present as long as the Ti content is at least 7.5%. The b stabilizing component may be one or more of V, Mo, Cr, Mn, Fe, W, Zr, Ni, Co, Cu, Si and Be, and up to 2.5% Al may also be added. Up to 0.3% oxygen may also be present. The alloys may be heat treated at 716-830 DEG C. followed by air cooling and heating at 260-430 DEG C.
