A weldable alloy has the following composition: .C.up to 0.2%.preferably.0.15-0.18% .Mn.1-1.5%.".1.10-1.44% .Ni.0.8-2.0%.".0.80-1.50% .Cr.0.2-0.5%.".0.30-0.50% .Mo.0.2-0.5%.".0.30-0.50% .V present up to... ..less than 0.1%.".0.03-0.09% .Si.up to 0.35%.".0.20-0.35% the balance being iron together with unavoidable impurities The heat treatment of this alloy may comprise normalization at 950 DEG C. and tempering at 620 DEG C. or there may be an intermediate extra normalization at 825 DEG C.
