Abstract
A martensitic steel comprises: <TABS:1013778/C6-C7/1> the balance, apart from impurities, being iron in an amount of at least 74%. Impurities, which should be kept as low as possible, may include S, P, H, O and N and small amounts of Cu (e.g. up to 0.45%) and Co may be present without detrimental effects. In heat treatments described the steel is hot worked, cooled to produce martensite (e.g. at least below 65 DEG C.), optionally cold rolled, annealed in the range 785-1040 DEG C. for 1-4 hours, optionally cold worked or machined and then aged in the range 425-540 DEG C. for 1-10 hours.
