An austenitic chromium-nickel steel comprises <TABS:0993613/C6-C7/1> the balance apart from impurities, such as P and S, being iron. Heat treatments disclosed comprise annealing at 1000-1300 DEG C. or at 550-850 DEG C. with hot or cold working.
