Abstract

La invención tiene como objetivo proporcionar una fibra de carbono que difícilmente sufra fracturas durante el moldeo para producir un material compuesto reforzado con fibra de carbono y que sirve para proporcionar un material compuesto reforzado con fibra de carbono que tiene un alto módulo elástico. La fibra de carbono tiene un módulo elástico de hebra de 360 GPa o más, una resistencia de hebra de 3.5 GPa o más, y un diámetro de una sola fibra de 6.0 µm o más, y además satisface uno o ambos requisitos (a) y (b) especificados a continuación: (a) cuando un extremo es un extremo fijo y el otro extremo es un extremo libre que es capaz de girar alrededor del eje del haz de fibras, el recuento de torsión residual es de 2 vueltas/m o más, y (b) la finura total, que es el producto de la finura de una sola fibra (g/km) y el número de filamentos (número) de la fibra de carbono, es de 740 g/km o más. Además, la fibra de carbono cumple la relación representada por la fórmula (1) en donde Es (GPa) es el módulo elástico de una sola fibra y A (N) es la carga de fractura de bucle: A= -0.0017 x Es + 1.02 ... fórmula (1). O la fibra de carbono tiene un diámetro de una sola fibra de 6.0 µm o más, satisface la relación representada por la fórmula (2) en donde E (GPa) es el módulo elástico de hebra y B (MPa) es la fuerza de nudo determinada en condiciones en las que la velocidad de pérdida de calor es de 0.15% o menos a 450°C, y tiene un recuento de torsiones de 20 a 80 vueltas/m: B = 6.7 x 109 x E-2.85 ... fórmula (2).
