Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain flameproof of carbon fiber bundles with little fluffing due to broken fibers at a high productivity and more economically, by twisting acrylonitrile fiber bundles, calcining and untwisting the multiple bundle strand, and taking off the respective bundles.
CONSTITUTION: Two or more twisted acrylonitrile fiber bundles are paralleled, further twisted and calcined as a multiple bundle strand (the directions of the first and the second twists are preferably the same). After the treatment, the strand is untwisted and the respective bundles are taken off to give the aimed fiber bundles. Preferably, the bundles of the first twists are more than the bundles of the second twists, and the number of the second twists is 0.5W5 turns/m.
