Abstract
Un método mejorado forma y emplea una cera para modificar el asfalto. El método comprende: (a) seleccionar un material polimérico sólido, (b) calentar el material polimérico sólido en una extrusora para producir un material polimérico fundido, (c) filtrar el material polimérico fundido, (d) colocar el material polimérico fundido a través de un proceso químico de despolimerización en un reactor para producir un material polimérico despolimerizado, y (e) añadir el material despolimerizado a una mezcla de pre-cera para producir un asfalto modificado por polímero. La adición de cera redujo el tiempo de mezclado necesario para lograr una dispersión de polímero mejorada en comparación con el betún modificado de la formulación de control y redujo la viscosidad del betún puro. La adición de cera antes del polímero es perjudicial para la mayoría de las propiedades del asfalto modificado resultante. La adición posterior al polímero mejoró la reducción de la viscosidad, tuvo un punto de reblandecimiento más alto y estabilidad dimensional mejorada.
