Abstract

La presente invención se regiere a método para producir revestimientos decorativos y protectores en artículos, caracterizado porque comprende: (a) someter una superficie de un artículo a un proceso de metalización con vacío en seco, para desarrollar un depósito metálico delgado de aproximadamente 100 - 500 Angstroms en espesor; (b) rociar electrostáticamente sobre el depósito metálico, un revestimiento base de una formulación de resina substancialmente transparente; (c) curar el revestimiento para formar una capa substancialmente transparente con aproximadamente .0127 - .0381 mm (0.0005 - 0.0015 in) en espesor; (d) someter la superficie de la capa transparente a un proceso de metalización con vacío en seco, para desarrollar una capa metálica decorativa delgada con aproximadamente 100 - 5000 Angstroms de espesor; (e) aplicar en la capa metálica decorativa un revestimiento superior de formulación de resina substancialmente transparente; y (f) curar el revestimiento superior para proporcionar una capa substancialmente transparente que tiene un espesor aproximado de .0127 - .0508 mm (0.0005 - 0.0020 in), el depósito metálico y las capas producen un revestimiento compuesto que proporcionan una apariencia metálica decorativa al artículo y proporcionan alta resistencia a la corrosión, ataque químico y abrasión.
