Abstract
본 발명은 하나 이상의 요오다이드-흡착 금속 또는 이의 화합물을 함유하는 제올라이트(여기서, 제올라이트는 소수성 제올라이트이다)를 포함하는 요오드화메틸 흡착제에 관한 것이다. 흡착제의 용도 및 요오드화메틸의 흡착 방법이 또한 명시되어 있다.
Description
본 발명은 요오드화메틸 흡착제, 이의 용도 및 요오드화메틸의 흡착 방법에 관한 것이다.
원자력 발전소에서는 방사성 물질과 접촉하는 모든 성분들이 이른바 "원자력 섬(nuclear island)"에 함유된다. 이는 1차 회로, 범람 원지(flood basin) 및 코어 캐처(core catcher)를 갖는 안전 용기(내부 격납)를 포함한다. 안전 용기의 상부에는 촉매 재조합기 및 재조합기 시스템이 예를 들면, Al2O3상 Pd와 설치될 수 있으며, 이는 수소 폭발을 방지하기 위하여, 대기중 수소의 비율을 제한하기로 되어 있는 것이다.
핵분열 원자로에서는 정상 작동 동안, 그러나 특히 실패의 경우, 우라늄의 고체 붕괴 동위원소, 또는 우라늄 핵분열로부터 발생하는 딸 동위원소(daughter isotope) 및 중성자 포획으로 인한 보다 높은 동위원소 이외에, 기체상 방사성 화합물이 또한 발생하는데, 이는 결코 환경으로 방출되지 않아야 한다. 수소 이외에, 이들중 가장 중요한 것은, 방사성 요오드 및 요오드화메틸이다.

핵분열 생성물인 세슘 및 요오드로부터, 요오드화세슘이 또한 연료봉에서 생성되며, 이는 연료봉에 보유되지 않는 경우, 원자로 섬프(reactor sump)에서 회수된다. 방사선분해로 인하여 또는 핫 스팟(예: 수소 재조합기에서의 핫 스팟)에서, 요오드 원소가 원자로 섬프 중의 요오드화세슘으로부터 형성되고, 정상 작동에서도 이의 휘발성으로 인하여 원자로 섬프로부터 빠져나갈 수 있다. 원자로 환경으로부터의 유기 물질(예: 염료)과의 이의 반응성으로 인하여, 유리 요오드가 그 다음 반응하여 요오드화메틸을 형성할 수 있다. 이러한 휘발성 방사성 물질은 원자로 쉘 내부의 기체 스톡에 축적되어 이로부터 흡착되어야 한다. 형성된 다수의 화합물은 또한 에어로졸 결합되어 존재하고 실패의 경우 방출된다.
형성된 방사성 요오드 동위원소 대부분은 짧은 반감기를 갖고, 따라서, 실패의 경우 높은 방사능 활성으로 인하여, 생명에 매우 상당히 위험이 된다. 요오드는 갑상선에서 흡수되고, 고농도에서는 갑상선암을 발생시킨다. 특히 반감기가 8일인 요오드 131(iodine 131)이 여기서 언급될 수 있다.
그러므로, 원자로를 설치 또는 안전한 작동에서의 개조를 위하여, 또는 폐쇄시 또는 해체 동안 또는 그 이후 원자로의 안전성을 보장하기 위하여, 고습도하에서도 안정한 방사성 요오드화메틸 흡착제가 요구된다.
새로운 지식 및 안전성 조건을 기반으로 하여, 유기 요오드화메틸의 보존은 이제 도전이 되었으며, 이는 또한 2011년의 후쿠시마 사건으로부터 배운 교훈이기도 하다. 이제까지는 기술적인 해결책이 전혀 없었다. 그러나, 다양한 접근법이 추진되어 왔다. 요오드 원소의 침착용 흡착 물질, 예를 들면, 은으로 담지된(loaded) 산화알루미늄이 공지되어 있다. 그러나, 억제로 인하여, 이는 수증기하에서는 매우 유용하지는 않다.
이제까지는 요오드화메틸을 침착시키기 위한 작동 가능한 기술적으로 정교한 수단은 없었다. 은 함유 흡착 물질이 요오드화메틸의 흡착에 적합하다는 것이 공지되어 있다. 형성된 요오드화은은 융점이 약 600℃이고 비점이 약 1500℃이므로, 통상의 조건하에서는 대체로 안정하다. 그러나, 공지된 흡착 물질의 경우, 높은 수증기 농도하에서는 물이 흡착제의 다공성 구조에 혼입되어 요오드화메틸의 흡착을 억제하는 것이 가능하다. 이러한 억제를 방지하기 위한 실행 가능한 수단으로 유기 실란 화합물에 의한 외부 흡착제 표면의 실란화가 있다. 이러한 방법은 고가이고 심각한 기술적 문제를 나타낸다. 실란 층은 약 180℃부터 분해되어, 상당한 열을 발생시킨다. 이는, 이 온도로부터 시작하여 추가의 요오드화메틸 흡착이 발생할 수 없고, 게다가, 존재할 수 있는 어떠한 수소도 고도의 발열 조건으로 인하여 점화될 가능성이 있어서, 원치 않는 부수적인 폭발 현상에 이를 수 있음을 의미한다.
그러므로, 본 발명의 목적은 위에서 언급한 단점을 피하고, 또한, 높은 안정성 및 높은 요오다이드 흡착능을 특징으로 하는 흡착 물질을 제공하는 것이었다.
당해 목적은 청구항 1에 따르는 요오드화메틸 흡착제, 청구항 12에 따르는 이의 용도 및 청구항 14에 따르는 요오드화메틸의 흡착 방법에 의하여 달성되었다.
한 양태에서, 하나 이상의 요오다이드 흡착 금속 또는 이의 화합물을 함유하는 제올라이트(여기서, 제올라이트는 소수성 제올라이트이다)를 포함하는, 요오드화메틸 흡착제가 명시된다.
또 다른 양태는 요오드화메틸, 방사성 요오드화메틸, 요오드 및/또는 방사성 요오드의 흡착을 위한, 하나 이상의 요오다이드-흡착 금속(iodide-adsorbing metal) 또는 이의 화합물을 함유하는 제올라이트(여기서, 제올라이트는 소수성 제올라이트이다)를 포함하는 요오드화메틸 흡착제의 용도에 관한 것이다.
추가의 양태에 따라, 요오드화메틸의 흡착 방법에서, 요오드화메틸은 하나 이상의 요오다이드-흡착 금속 또는 이의 화합물을 함유하는 제올라이트(여기서, 제올라이트는 소수성 제올라이트이다)를 포함하는 흡착제와 접촉시킨다.
놀랍게도, 당해 양태의 흡착제는 매우 소수성이고, 높은 요오다이드 흡착능을 나타내며, 광범위한 수증기 농도 및 온도에 걸쳐 이러한 특성에 대하여 안정하다. 게다가, 존재할 수 있는 어떠한 수소의 발열 점화 위험이, 소수성 특성 및 발열 조건하에 탈착 가능한 실란 층의 부재로 인하여 명백하게 감소된다.

본원에 기재되고 상호 배타적이지 않는 양태의 모든 특징은 서로 결합될 수 있다. 한 양태의 요소는 추가의 언급 없이 다른 양태에 사용될 수 있다. 본 발명의 양태를 다음의 예에 의하여 이제 보다 상세히 설명하며, 이로써 본 발명의 양태를 제한하려는 것은 아니다.
다음의 양태의 설명에서, 요오드화메틸 흡착제는 간단히 흡착제라고 한다. 다음의 설명 이외에, 용어 제올라이트 및 제올라이트 물질은 동의어로 사용된다. 용어 "금속 또는 이의 화합물"은 금속의 전구체 또는 금속의 전구체의 화합물로서 이해하거나 이러한 전구체를 포함할 수 있다. 또한 금속은 이온 형태로 존재할 수 있다. 추가로, 용어 "촉진제"는 촉진제의 전구체, 촉진제의 화합물 또는 촉진제의 전구체의 화합물로서 이해하거나 이러한 전구체를 포함할 수 있다.

한 양태에서, 하나 이상의 요오다이드-흡착 금속 또는 이의 화합물을 함유하는 제올라이트(여기서, 제올라이트는 소수성 제올라이트이다)를 포함하는, 요오드화메틸 흡착제가 명시된다. 요오다이드-흡착 금속은 양태에서 또한 요오드를 흡착시키는 금속이다. 흡착제는 또한 예를 들면, 99%를 초과하는 흡착률로, 요오드 원소를 흡착할 수 있다.
요오다이드-흡착 금속은 예를 들면, 은(Ag), 이트륨, 세륨, 마그네슘, 나트륨, 주석 및 납으로부터 선택될 수 있다. 양태에서, 당해 요오다이드-흡착 금속 중 몇 개가 사용되는 것도 가능하다. 추가로, 요오다이드-흡착 금속중 하나 이상이 이의 양이온성 형태에 함유될 수 있다. 은이 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로서 바람직하게 사용된다. 은이 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로서 사용되는 경우, 비점이 1500℃인, 생성된 요오드화은의 증기압은 매우 낮아서, 방사성 요오드가 흡착제에 확실히 결합된다.
노심 융해(nuclear meltdown) 동안 약 1200℃ 초과의 온도에 이르는 경우, 방사성 요오드는 양태의 흡착제로부터 방출되는 것이 아니라, 제올라이트의 열역학적으로 보다 안정한 구조(홍연석 또는 석영)로의 변환으로 인하여, 진정한 의미에서 유리화되어, 용융될 때까지 석영 또는 홍연석에 각각 약 1700℃의 온도까지, 확실히 저장된다.
위에서 설명한 바와 같이, 양태의 요오드화메틸 흡착제는 소수성이고, 또한 놀랍게도, 현저한 요오다이드 흡착 능력을 나타낸다. 양태에서, 이는 99%를 초과하는 요오다이드 침착을 유도할 수 있다. 추가로, 요오드화메틸 흡착제는 광범위한 수증기 농도 및 온도에 걸쳐 이들 특성 면에서 안정하다. 특히 소수도, 즉 발수도는 고온에서도 안정하다. 추가로, 존재할 수 있는 어떠한 수소의 발열성 점화 위험은 소수성 특성에 의하여 명백히 감소된다. 이러한 효과는 예를 들면, 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로 담지되지 않거나 도핑되지 않은, 생성에 사용된 제올라이트가 자체로 소수성인 경우, 즉 높은 "고유" 소수도를 갖는 경우 관찰된다. 일부 예에서, 제올라이트 및/또는 흡착제의 소수도는 또한 1000℃를 초과하는 제올라이트 구조의 파괴까지의 고온에서 보유될 수도 있다.
추가로, 양태에 사용된 제올라이트의 소수성 특성 때문에, 예를 들면, 유기규소 화합물로 피복하는 공정 또는 기타의 수단이 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로 담지된(loaded) 제올라이트 또는 흡착제를 소수성으로 만드는 데 필요하지 않다. 그 결과, 흡착제의 재생이 가열에 의하여 가능하게 된다. 제올라이트의 소수성 특성은 본 발명의 양태에서 고온에 의하여 부정적으로 영향받지 않는다. 더욱이, 생성된 분해 생성물의 양은 소수성 피막을 갖는 흡착제와 비교하여 명백히 감소된다.
본 발명과 관련하여, 제올라이트 또는 제올라이트 물질이란, 국제 광물학 협회의 정의(D.S. Coombs et al., Can. Mineralogist, 35, 1997, 1571)에 따라, 상호 연결된 사면체의 골격을 특징으로 하는 구조를 갖는 결정성 물질을 의미한다. 각각의 사면체는 하나의 중심 원자를 둘러싼 4개의 산소원자로 이루어지며, 여기서 골격은 통상적으로 물 분자 및 교환될 수 있는 골격외 양이온에 의하여 점유되는 채널 및 케이지 형태의 개방 공동을 함유한다. 물질의 채널은 게스트 화합물로의 접근을 허용하기에 충분히 크다. 수화 물질의 경우, 약 400℃ 미만의 온도에서 통상적으로 탈수가 발생하고, 대부분의 경우 가역적이다.
양태에서 사용될 수 있는 제올라이트 물질은 예를 들면, 실리케이트, 규산알루미늄, 규소 알루미늄 포스페이트, 금속 알루미늄 포스포실리케이트, 갈륨 알루미늄 실리케이트, 보로알루미늄 실리케이트 또는 티타늄 실리코알루미노포스페이트(TAPSO)일 수 있고, 여기서 규산알루미늄 제올라이트라고도 하는, 규산알루미늄이 특히 바람직하다. 양태에서 사용된 제올라이트는 추가로, 고비율의 SiO2를 특징으로 할 수 있으며, 이는 예를 들면, 85중량%, 바람직하게는 98중량%를 초과한다.
용어 "규산알루미늄"이란, 국제 광물학 협회의 정의(D.S. Coombs et al., Can. 흡착제의 추가의 양태에서, 제올라이트는 규산알루미늄이고/이거나, 94중량% 초과, 바람직하게는 98중량% 초과의 SiO2 비율을 갖는다. SiO2 비율이 94중량% 초과, 바람직하게는 98중량% 초과인 규산알루미늄 제올라이트가 사용되는 양태가 바람직하다. SiO2/Al2O3 계수의 함수로서 대략적인 SiO2 비율은 다음과 같다:
본 발명의 양태에서 사용된 제올라이트는 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로 가중되지 않은 상태에서도 5 초과, 바람직하게는 20 초과, 추가로 바람직하게는 30 초과, 보다더 바람직하게는 50 초과, 특히 100 초과의 SiO2/Al2O3 비를 갖는다. 놀랍게도, 이렇게 높은 SiO2/Al2O3 비만으로 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로 담지되지 않고/또는 요오다이드-흡착 금속으로 담지된(loaded) 제올라이트, 뿐만 아니라 전체 흡착제의 충분히 소수성인 특성이 발생된다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 일부 양태에 따라, 사용된 제올라이트의 SiO2/Al2O3 비는 100 초과 또는 140 초과, 예를 들면, 100 내지 250 또는 130 내지 170의 범위에 있다.

측정 방법
ICP를 사용한 원소 분석:
ICP-AES(유도적으로 커플링된 플라즈마 원자 방출 분광기)를 원소 조성 또는 SiO2/Al2O3 비를 확인하기 위하여 ICP 스펙트로 모듈라/아코스(Spectro Modula/Arcos) 장치로 수행하였다. 다음 화학물이 사용되었다: 황산 98% p.a., 불산 37% p.a., 염산 37% p.a. 샘플을 미분시켰다.
Si 및 Al에 대하여, 100㎖ 플라스틱 비커에서 샘플 100mg을 중량 측정하고, 황산 1㎖ 및 불산 4㎖를 가하였다. 투명한 용액이 생성될 때까지 85℃에서 5분 동안 수욕에서 가용화를 수행하였다. 그 다음, 템퍼링, 충전 및 진탕을 수행하였다. 모든 원소를 ICP 뿐만 아니라, 상응하는 표준을 사용하여 측정하였다. Si를 다음 설정으로 측정하였다: 파장 288, 158nm. Al을 다음 설정으로 측정하였다: 파장: 396, 152nm.

BET 표면적:
이는 DIN 66131에 따르는 BET 방법에 따라 측정하고; BET 방법의 공개는 또한 문헌[참조: J. Am. Chem. 전체 기공 용적을 BJH(Barrett, Joyner 및 Halenda에 따르는 공정)에 따르는 질소 수착에 의한 중간다공성 고체의 비표면적 및 기공-크기 분포의 측정법인, DIN 66134에 따라 측정하였다. 미세기공 및 중기공/대기공의 비율은 ASTM D-4365-85에 따르는 이른바 t-플롯 방법에 의하여 측정한다.
실시예 및 비교 실시예
150의 높은 SiO2/Al2O3 계수로 인하여 매우 소수성인, 시판중인 BEA 제올라이트(제조원: Sud-Chemie AG)(H-BEA-150)를 직경이 3mm인 구형으로 성형하였다. 10중량% 양의 SiO2를 결합제로서 사용하였다.
이렇게 수득한 성형체를 초기 습윤 방법에 따라 질산은으로 함침시키고, 12중량%의 은 원소 함량으로 설정하였다(흡착제 A).
흡착제 A를 초기 습윤 방법에 따라 상이한 양의 질산납으로 추가로 도핑시켰다(Pb 1중량% = 흡착제 B; Pb 3중량% = 흡착제 C; Pb 6중량% = 흡착제 D; Pb 12중량% = 흡착제 E).
비교 실시예는 실시예와 동일한 크기를 갖는 구로 형성되고, 초기 습윤 방법에 따라 각각의 니트레이트를 사용하여 12중량% 은으로 도핑되거나(흡착제 F) 12% 은 및 12% 납으로 도핑된(흡착제 G), 1.5의 계수를 갖는 13× 제올라이트(제조원: Sud-Chemie AG)였다.
또한, 12중량% Ag를 갖는 실시예와 동일한 크기의 산화알루미늄 구의 형태이고 프로필 트리에톡시실란(Dynasylan® PTEO, 제조원: EVONIK)으로 실란화된, 통상적인 흡착제가 추가의 비교 실시예로서 시험되었다(흡착제 H).
실시예 및 비교 실시예의 관류 흡착제(flow-through adsorber) 상에서의 요오드화 메틸 보유율 및 수소 형성/방출을 측정하였다.
요오드화메틸의 보유율은 가열 가능한 관류 장치(throughflow apparatus)에서 측정하였다. 관류는 100ℓ/h로 설정하였다. 시험 기체로서, 요오드화메틸 200ppmv를 표 1에 명시된 각각의 공기-수증기 혼합물에 가하였다. 각각의 측정을 위하여, 검사되는 물질 5g을 장치로 혼입시켰다. 초기 및 최종 요오드화메틸 농도를 FID에 의하여 측정하였다. 5분의 관류 기간 후 초기 농도에 대한 최종 농도의 비는 보유 값으로서 이용된다.
수소 형성/방출은 다시 관류 장치에서 측정하였다. 여기서, 장치를 실온에서 100ℓ/h 수증기 포화 기체(H2O 3.2용적%)의 관류로 처리하였다. 장치는 유입구 및 배출구에서 각각 온도계가 달린 2개의 단편으로 이루어진다. 제1 단편은 검사되는 각각의 샘플 5.0g을 함유하였다. 제2 단편은 백금으로 도핑된 산화 촉매를 함유하였고, 이는 형성된 수소를 재산화시켜 물을 형성한다. 제2 단편에서 유입구 및 배출구 사이의 온도차로서 측정될 수 있는, 이렇게 방출된 반응열은, 시험 기체에 존재하는 실온에서 산화될 수 있는 추가의 성분이 없으므로, 형성된 수소의 양에 대한 척도로서 이용된다. 1K 온도 상승은 대략 H2 0.014용적%의 형성에 상응한다.
그 다음, 측정된 요오드화메틸 보유 값 및 형성된 수소량을, 다음 표 1 및 2로부터 알 수 있는 바와 같이, 비교 실시예와 비교하였다.

표 1로부터, 상이한 온도 및 기습 또는 대기중 수증기 농도에서의 실시예는 99%를 초과하는 CH3I 보유율을 나타내는 반면, 비교 실시예는 99% 미만의 CH3I 보유율을 유도함을 알 수 있다. 실시예의 요오다이드 흡착능은 따라서 비교 실시예보다 명백히 우수하다.
표 2는 모든 실시예 및 비교 실시예가 단지 소량의 또는 측정할 수 없는 수소 방출을 발생시킴을 추가로 나타낸다.
실시예 및 상응하는 흡착제에 사용된 은 함유 BEA-150 제올라이트는 또한 1000℃ 초과 까지의 소수도의 고온 내성을 특징으로 한다. 이는 실란화에 의한 소수성 특성이 제공되었으나, 이의 실란 층은 이미 180℃에서 열 분해성인, 비교 실시예 H와 비교하여 특히 그러하다.
Claims (15)
- 하나 이상의 요오다이드-흡착 금속 또는 이의 화합물을 함유하는 제올라이트를 포함하는 요오드화메틸 흡착제로서, 제올라이트가 소수성 제올라이트인 흡착제.
- 제1항에 있어서,
제올라이트가 본질적으로 소수성인 제올라이트이고/이거나; 요오다이드-흡착 금속이 또한 요오드-흡착 금속인 흡착제. - 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서,
제올라이트가 미세다공성이고/이거나; 요오다이드-흡착 금속이 은, 이트륨, 세륨, 마그네슘, 나트륨, 주석 및 납으로부터 선택되는 흡착제. - 제1항 내지 제3항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서,
제올라이트 또는 흡착제의 미세기공의 비율이, 제올라이트 또는 흡착제의 총 기공 용적에 대하여, 70% 초과, 바람직하게는 80% 초과이고/이거나; 요오다이드-흡착 금속이 실질적으로 제올라이트의 기공에 위치하는 흡착제. - 제1항 내지 제4항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서, 제올라이트가 규산알루미늄이고/이거나; 제올라이트의 SiO2/Al2O3 비가 10 초과, 바람직하게는 30 초과, 보다더 바람직하게는 100 초과이고/이거나; 제올라이트의 SiO2 비율이 94중량% 초과, 바람직하게는 98중량% 초과인 흡착제.
- 제1항 내지 제5항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서,
제올라이트가 AFI, AEL, BEA, CHA, EUO, FAU, FER, KFI, LTL, MAZ, MOR, MEL, MTW, OFF, TON 및 MFI로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택되는 흡착제. - 제1항 내지 제6항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서, 하나 이상의 촉진제가 요오다이드-흡착 금속에 의한 수 분해를 감소시키기 위하여 함유되는 흡착제.
- 제1항 내지 제7항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서,
촉진제가 납을 포함하고/하거나; 제올라이트 또는 흡착제 중의 요오다이드-흡착 금속의 함량이 0.1 내지 50중량%, 보다 바람직하게는 5 내지 30중량%, 가장 바람직하게는 10 내지 20중량%이고/이거나; 제올라이트 또는 흡착제 중의 촉진제 또는 납의 합량이 1 내지 30중량%, 보다 바람직하게는 5 내지 30중량%, 추가로 바람직하게는 10 내지 20중량%, 가장 바람직하게는 3 내지 6중량%인 흡착제. - 제1항 내지 제8항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서,
제올라이트 또는 흡착제의 BET 표면적이 10 내지 1000㎡/g, 바람직하게는 300 내지 900㎡/g, 특히 바람직하게는 500 내지 700㎡/g이고/이거나, 제올라이트 또는 흡착제의 전체 기공 용적이 100㎣/g을 초과하는 흡착제. - 제1항 내지 제9항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서,
흡착제는 벌크 물질로서 형성되고/되거나; 제올라이트 또는 제올라이트를 함유하는 워시코트가 적용되는 지지물을 포함하는 흡착제. - 제10항에 있어서, 압출물, 성형체 또는 제올라이트로 피복된 입자로서 형성되고/되거나; 흡착제 및/또는 지지물이 봉소 형태 또는 판상 형태로 형성되는 흡착제.
- 요오드화메틸, 방사성 요오드화메틸, 요오드 및/또는 방사성 요오드의 흡착을 위한 제1항 내지 제11항 중의 어느 한 항에 따르는 요오드화메틸 흡착제의 용도.
- 제12항에 있어서,
흡착제가 원자력 발전소, 재처리 공장 또는 연료 원소 보관 시설에 또는 그 부근에 사용되고/되거나; 흡착제가 수소 재조합 촉매와 함께 사용되는 용도. - 요오드화메틸이 제1항 내지 제11항 중의 어느 한 항에 따르는 흡착제와 접촉되는, 요오드화메틸의 흡착 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서,
요오드화메틸이 방사성이고/이거나; 요오드 및/또는 방사성 요오드가 흡착제에 의하여 추가로 흡착되는 방법.
