Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a bottom metal for continuous casting which cools a cast ingot from its bottom part as well and considerably decrease the generation of cracks by having a cavity provided with an inlet and an outlet for coolant in the inside and cooling a molten metal accepting part in the upper part by the coolant passing in said cavity.
CONSTITUTION: This bottom metal for continuous casting is provided with a molten metal accepting part 34 in the upper part and a cavity 35 provided with a coolant inlet 32 and a coolant outlet 33 in the inside. The coolant supplied through the inlet 32 into the cavity 35 forcibly cools the part 34 in the upper part of the bottom metal from the inside and is discharged from the outlet 33. Water is best suited as said coolant. In continuous casting of Al, multiplex casting is usually practised, and a bottom metal 41 having plural pieces of molten metal accepting parts 45 at the top surface is used. In this case, it is advantageous to use the bottom plate 4 having the multiple parts 45 on the top surface and a cavity 42 commonly used by these.
