Abstract

PURPOSE: To cast a specular surface cast ingot of uniform structure by supplying molten metal from the top end of a mold for continuous casting of cast ingot wherein the temp. of the inside wall of the outlet is maintained at above the solidification end temp. of a cast alloy, and taking out the cast ingot continuously from the other end under stirring.
CONSTITUTION: A mold for continuous casting of cast ingots is constituted of a hollow mold 1 provided with a heating element 2 in the bottom end and cooling pipes 3 passing cooling water in the upper part respectively. The inside wall surface of the bottom end of the mold 1 is maintained at above the solidification end temp. of the cast alloy. In such a state, the solidification of charged molten alloy 6 is started under stirring in the mold 1, by which crystals are liberated from the mold wall and in the lower part 7, half-melt-like gruel is formed by the crystals and the molten metal. This half molten ingot is lowered continuously from the bottom end of the mold 1 by means of a water-cooled ingot dummy bar 8, and is cooled to solidify by water sprays 9, whereby a cast ingot 10 is produced.
