Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain casting having less porosity, by performing degassing while a molten metal is charged into a mold or ingot case within a vacuum vessel and by applying pressure with gas at the time of solidification of the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A well is arranged in a vacuum vessel and a molten metal is charged into the well. Immediately after the charging, the pressure is reduced and the plug of the well is removed, and the molten metal is charged into a mold or an ingot case. When this cast is completed, the vacuum pump is stopped and the casting is solidified while pressure is applied to the casting, by injecting air or inert gas into the vacuum vessel. In this way, a large amount of gas absorbed in the molten metal is discharged, and, moreover, the discharging of gas is stopped by the pressure at the time of solidification of the molten metal. Thus, castings having less porposity such as pinhole are obtained.
