Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of gas holes, etc. and produce the casting of easy cutting of gate portions by pouring molten metal into the cavity in the state where the effective sectional area of a gate is large and letting the molten metal in the cavity solidify in the state where the effective sectional area of the gate is reduced.
CONSTITUTION: A variable gate member 12 is put in a retreat position and with a gate 11 being fully open, a pouring plunger 9 is advanced at low speed and molten metal is injected into a cavity 7 through cross gate 11 and gate 11. After the molten metal has been filled in the cavity 7, the plunger 9 is advanced under pressure to press the molten metal in the cavity 7. Immediate before the solidification of the molten metal of the gate 11 portion completes, a variable gate member 12 is advanced to reduce the effective area of the gate 11.
