Abstract

PURPOSE: To cut cross gates safely with a simple device by beforehand mounting a movable heat-resistant block in rise bricks and moving the heat-resistant block to block the molten metal after casting of the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A heat-resistant block 6 which is made movable in runner pipe by means of a hydraulic cylinder 2, spacer 4 and rod 5 is beforehand equipped to the end of rise bricks 10. Next, casting is performed and immediate after the completion of the casting, the hydraulic cylinder 2 is operated to move the heat- resistant block 6 up to the position of the broken line and block the molten metal 14 in the casting mold 16 and the molten metal 13 in the rise brickes 10 thereby perfectly separating these. The heat-resistant block 6 is made by winding carbon tapes 7 to a block made of graphite to prevent the leakage of molten metal from the clearance between the rise bricks 10 and heat-resistant block 6 and reduce the moving resistance of the heat-resistant block 6.
