Abstract

Molten steel in a tundish is adjusted to have super-heat DELTA T of 30-70 DEG C before introduction into a mould. The cast piece withdrawn from the mould by rollers is rolled near the leading end of the crater at a reduction rate of 0.5-2.0 mm/m to decrease centre segregation, and reduce internal defects and to improve upward flow of inclusions. <IMAGE>
