Abstract
PURPOSE:To change the width of billet without stopping drawing of the billet by burying front and rear billet connecting joint in the molten steel in a casting mold and setting a molten receiving metal after moving of the short piece of the casting mold at the exchanging of tundish in continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:At the time of exchanging tundish upon ending of pouring of molten steel 4 into a casting mold 1 for continuous casting, a front and rear billet connecting joint 6 is placed on the top end of the molten steel 4 and a portion there of is buried in the molten steel 4. Next, the long piece of the casting mold 1 is opened and the short piece 1a is moved to a desired width. Further a molten steel receiving metal 7 is set on the billet buried with the joint 6. This metal is constituted by L-type chill portions at both ends and connecting bars 10. Refractory sealing materials 9 are provided to the L-type chill portions to shield the spacing from the casting mold 1. In order to prevent leakage of the molten steel from the spacing between the metal 7 and the shell 5 of the billet before the width change, a steel-leakage-preventing iron plate 13 is mounted and its spscing is made to a length 1.005 to 1.01 times the billet width before changing.
