Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform smooth casting and produce an ingot of superior surface characteristics by pouring molten metal while electro-heating the intermediate refrectory material joined betwen a tundish nozzle and a mold. CONSTITUTION:In producing an ingot by using a continuous casting apparatus for ingot of a horizontal drawing direction consisting in successively coupling a tundish nozzle 7, an intermediate refractory material 3 and a mold 8, the molten steel 5 in the tundish is poured from the nozzle 7 into the mold 8 wile the intermediate refractory material 3 is being electro-heated, whereby even under such adverse conditions where the rate of heating the molten metal has decreased, the breakout is prevented and stable casting is continued, thus the ingot of superior surface characteristics is produced.
