Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the cooling rate of a mold and prevent the deterioration of molding sand by causing breakage in the sprue of the casting mold in the air cooling line of a mold conveyor before knock-out, and disengaging and removing said sprue from the casting mold.
CONSTITUTION: A sand mold 3 having no molding flasks molded by a molding machine 2 is conveyed by a mold conveyor 5, is poured with molten metal by tilting of a ladle 6 in a pouring line and is shifted to air cooling by an air cooling line 8. A casting sprue removing device is beforehand moved and fixed by way of a pulse motor 10 to the predetermined position where the cast molten metal assumes a predetermined half-frozen state, whereby the sprue 30 is removed. Namely, when the pouring sprue 30 stops, an elevator 17 operates to cause a rod head 20 to descend and also causes a cutter 23 to descend, then a cutter 29 in an open state abuts on the sand mold 3 and penetrates in the small diameter part depth of the sprue 30. Thence, an air cylinder 28 for cutting operates and the cutter 29 closes to break the sprue 30. The sprue is then grasped by the cutter 29 and is moved upward and removed.
