Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the thin-walled casting free from cavities by subsequently freezing molten metal from its bottom toward its upper part by the use of the specific induction heating device provided around the casting chamber.
CONSTITUTION: An induction heating device 5 divided to partially current-suppliable plural areas is disposed around the casting chamber which forms thin-walled long-length castings such as pipes. Molten metal is poured through sprue 6 into the casting chamber having beforehand been electroheated. Upon completion of the pouring, the current supply is stopped subsequently from the bottom toward the upper part. This causes the molten metal to freeze subsequently from the bottom, thereby forming the homogeneous casting free from any cavities in the inside.
