Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the exfoliation of an Al clad steel plate at the joining faces due to the production of an intermetallic compound at the joining faces by specifying the C and N contents of the steel plate as the core material and coating the surfaces of the plate with molten Al-Si by hot dipping. CONSTITUTION:In the manufacture of an Al clad steel plate having 0.0050- 0.200% N content and <=0.02% C content is used as the core material 1. This plate is dipped in a molten Al-Si alloy contg. 1-15% Si to form Al-Si alloy layers 2 by hot dipping. After cleaning the surfaces, Al or Al alloy plates 3 are pressure- welded by rolling to manufacture the Al clad steel plate. Since free N is contained in the steel plate as the core material, and the plate has such a low C content, no intermetallic compound is produced between the core material 1 and each of the Al- Si layers 2, and divided Fe-Al-Si alloy layers 4 are formed to prevent the exfoliation of the core material 1 and the clad materials 2, 3.
