Abstract

PURPOSE:To form Zn-Al alloy layers with high adhesion on an iron plate by hot dipping without using a flux by dipping the plate in a molten Zn-Al alloy contg. a little Mg and applying ultrasonic vibration to the plate surfaces in the perpendicular direction. CONSTITUTION:An iron plate is dipped in a molten alloy consisting of 10-95% Zn, 5-90% Al and 0.5-2% Mg, and ultrasonic vibration is applied to the plate surfaces in the perpendicular direction by means of ultrasonic vibrating plates. Oxide on the plate surfaces is reduced with strongly reducing Mg contained in the molten alloy to stick Zn-Al alloy layers by hot dipping. The ultrasonic vibration intensifies the deoxidation reducing power of Mg, and the iron plate surfaces are cleaned and activated by radiation pressure due to the vibration, so the alloy layers with superior adhesion are formed without requiring a flux.
