【産業上の利用分野】本発明は光コネクタに関するもの
である。

安価な量産性などが問題とされることが多かった。しか
し、本発明者が光ファイバコードの伝送特性の向上につ
き種々研究しているうち、光コネクタと光ファイバコー
ドとの接続部の曲がりによる伝送損失の問題にぶつかっ
た。

れる場合、光ファイバコードが自重などで垂れ下がり、
これを保守点検時などに動かすとその荷重で光コネクタ
と光ファイバコードとの接続部に急角度の曲げが生じ、
そのため光ファイバに側圧が加わり伝送損失が増大す
る。本発明者はこのような問題点に着目し、種々試験し
て問題点の分析を行なった。以下これを図面にもとづい
て説明する。

はブーツ7によって被覆されている。このブーツ7は、
前記プラグ3を包囲するかしめリング4と光ファイバコ
ード2との接続部6を保護するものである。

ード2との接続部6を保護するものである。
【0007】このブーツ7の材質として従来ゴムまたは
弾性を有するプラスチックが使用されており、かつ一体
成形されている。ブーツ7の断面形状は図に示すとおり
であり、その前部7aの厚みは約0.55mm程度と薄
く、後部7bはこれよりも肉厚に形成されているととも
に、後部に向かって肉薄となるようテーパが付形されて
いる。このようにブーツ7の前部7aと後部7bに肉厚
の差があるのは、かしめリング4の外径と光ファイバコ
ード2の外径に差があること、およびかしめリング4は
硬い金属で形成されているため、前部7aは比較的肉薄
であってもかまわないことによる。

中する。そのため、光ファイバコード2の下向きの荷重
が約0.3kg以上の荷重範囲では急激な曲がりの防止
作用を全くなさず、したがって、光ファイバコード2が
前述の根元部7cで側圧を受けて伝送損失が増大する。

ファイバコード2に3.0kgfの中荷重と、0.3k
gfの低荷重を加えて、合計6種類の試験を行なった。

示すように光損失増加が変る。図6より、従来のゴム製
ブーツより約2倍硬い中硬度のブーツが最良であるが、
難点として、低荷重(=約0.3kgf)での光損失増
加が僅かにみられる。しかし、さらにブーツ材質を約2
倍硬くすると、より以上に光損失が増えるので、結果と
して、従来品の硬度より1.5〜3.0倍硬くするのが
よいことが確認された。

【発明の効果】以上説明したように、本発明に係る光コ
ネクタによると、プラグ及びこれに接続する光ファイバ
コードを被覆する部材を高硬度の材料からなる第1の部
材と、中硬度の材料からなる第2の部材を組合わせて構
成し、しかも各部材の硬さを最適な硬度に選択し、ブー
ツ後端部にフラット部を設けて構成したので、光ファイ
バコードに高荷重または低荷重のいずれの荷重が加わっ
た場合でも、光ファイバコードとプラグとの接続部に急
角度の曲がりが生せず、伝送損失増を抑えることができ
るという実用上の効果がある。
ネクタによると、プラグ及びこれに接続する光ファイバ
コードを被覆する部材を高硬度の材料からなる第1の部
材と、中硬度の材料からなる第2の部材を組合わせて構
成し、しかも各部材の硬さを最適な硬度に選択し、ブー
ツ後端部にフラット部を設けて構成したので、光ファイ
バコードに高荷重または低荷重のいずれの荷重が加わっ
た場合でも、光ファイバコードとプラグとの接続部に急
角度の曲がりが生せず、伝送損失増を抑えることができ
るという実用上の効果がある。

Claims (4)
- 【請求項1】 光ファイバコードに接続したプラグおよ
びプラグを包囲するかしめリングと、光ファイバコード
をブーツで被覆してなる光コネクタにおいて、 前記ブーツを高硬度の材料からなる第1の部材と、前記
第1の部材の後部に結合し、中硬度の材料からなる第2
の部材の組合わせにより構成し、前記ファイバコードと
かしめリングの接続部は前記第1の部材内に位置してな
る構成を特徴とする光コネクタ。 - 【請求項2】 前記第2の部材は、ロックウエル硬度約
R45の硬さを有するとともに、後部を先細に形成し、
その先端にフラット部を有する請求項1記載の光コネク
タ。 - 【請求項3】 フラット部の長さが4.0mm以上であ
る請求項2記載の光コネクタ。 - 【請求項4】 第1の部材は第2の部材よりも約1.5
倍以上の硬度を有する請求項2または請求項3記載の光
コネクタ。
