Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、焼結したゾルゲルのアルファアルミナの結晶
から主として構成された、結合した研磨製品、例えば、
研削といしおよびセグメントに関する。
ゾルゲル、およびとくに種添加したゾルゲルアルミナ研
磨材は、数年前の導入以来、被覆および結合した研磨材
の用途の広い分野において他の主な研磨材を越えた実質
的な利点を実証した。このような研磨材は、一般に、変
化する量の添加剤、例えば、MgOまたは2rO□をま
た含有することができる、水和アルミナゲルを乾燥およ
び焼結することによって作られる。乾燥した材料を焼結
の前または後に破砕して、所望の大きさの範囲の、不規
則なブロック状の多結晶質研磨グリッドを得る。
グリッドは後に結合または被覆した研磨製品、例えば、
研削といしまたはセグメントまたはベルトまたはディス
ク中に組み込むことができる。
米国特許第4.314.827号(Leitheise
rら)は、直径が5〜10ミクロン程度である不規則な
「スノーフレーク(snowf 1ake) Jの形状
のアルフッA1203結晶を焼結したグリッドが含有す
るような方法で作られた研磨グリッドを開示している。
「スノーフレーク」のアームの間および隣接する「スノ
ーフレーク」の間の空間は、他の相、例えば、微細な結
晶質のアルミナマグネシアスピネルにより満たされてい
る。

Claims (14)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 1. 焼結したゾルゲルアルミナに基づくフィラメント
    の形状の研磨材およびその結合材から構成され、前記フ
    ィラメントの形状の研磨材は実質的に均一な断面、約1
    .0より大きい平均のアスペクト比、および少なくとも
    16GPaの硬度を有し、かつ2ミクロンより大きくな
    い大きさを有する焼結したアルファアルミナの結晶から
    主として構成されていることを特徴とする、結合した研
    磨製品。
  2. 2. 前記焼結した研磨材は種添加ゾルゲル法によるフ
    ィラメントの形状の研磨材である、上記第1項記載の結
    合した研磨製品。
  3. 3. 前記焼結したフィラメントの形状のアルミナに基
    づく研磨材は、理論密度の少なくとも95%の密度を有
    し、そしてジルコニア、チタニア、マグネシア、ハフニ
    ア、セリア、スピネル、ムライト、二酸化マグネシウム
    、これらの酸化物の前駆体、およびそれの混合物から成
    る群より選択される酸化物の1〜50重量%を含む、上
    記第2項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  4. 4. 前記焼結したフィラメントの形状のアルミナに基
    づく研磨材は1.5〜25のアスペクト比、0.001
    mm〜2mmのアスペクト比を有し、そして前記アルフ
    ァアルミナの結晶は約1ミクロンより小さい大きさを有
    する、上記第2項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  5. 5. 前記アルファアルミナの結晶は約0.4ミクロン
    より小さい大きさを有する、上記第4項記載の結合した
    研磨製品。
  6. 6. 前記粒子は少なくとも18GPaの硬度を有し、
    そして1ミクロン以下の大きさを有するアルファアルミ
    ナの結晶子の少なくとも95重量%から構成されている
    、上記第1項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  7. 7. 前記粒子はガラス状成分を実質的に含まず、そし
    て少なくとも8,000kg/cm^2の破壊強さを有
    する、上記第1項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  8. 8. 前記フィラメントの形状のアルミナに基づく研磨
    材はより長い寸法において湾曲している、上記第1項記
    載の結合した研磨製品。
  9. 9. 前記フィラメントの形状のアルミナに基づく研磨
    材はそのより長い寸法においてより合わされている、上
    記第1項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  10. 10. 前記結合した研磨製品は3〜39容量%の結合
    材、30〜56容量%の研磨材、および5〜67容量%
    の孔から成り、そして前記結合材はガラス化結合材であ
    る、上記第1項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  11. 11. 前記結合した研磨製品は5〜76容量%の結合
    材、24〜62容量%の研磨材、および0〜71容量%
    の孔から成り、そして前記結合材はレジノイド結合材で
    ある、上記第1項記載の結合した研磨製品。
  12. 12. 前記研磨製品は、前記焼結したフィラメントの
    形状のアルミナに基づく研磨材に加えて、融解アルミナ
    、同時融解アルミナ−ジルコニア、非繊維の形状の焼結
    アルミナ、非繊維の形状の焼結アルミナ−ジルコニア、
    炭化ケイ素、立方体の窒化ホウ素、ダイヤモンド、フリ
    ント、ガーネット、バブルアルミナ、バブルアルミナ−
    ジルコニア、およびそれらの混合物から成る群より選択
    される第2研磨材の1〜90容量%を含む、上記第1項
    記載の結合した研磨製品。
  13. 13. 前記レジノイド結合材は、フェノール−ホルム
    アルデヒド、エポキシ、ポリウレタン、ポリエステル、
    セラック、ゴム、ポリイミド、ポリベンズイミダゾール
    、フェノキシ、およびそれらの混合物から成る群より選
    択されるものである、上記第11項記載の結合した研磨
    製品。
  14. 14. 前記製品は研削といしである、上記第1項記載
    の結合した研磨製品。
