Description
[1]けん化度が65モル%を超え88モル%未満であるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)、無機酸化物(B)及び溶媒(C)を含有する、水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[2]ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)の20℃における4質量%水溶液の粘度が2.5mPa・sを超え150mPa・s未満である、前記[1]に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[3]ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)と無機酸化物(B)の質量比(A)/(B)が10/90〜90/10である、前記[1]又は[2]に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[4]無機酸化物(B)が酸化アルミニウム又は酸化ケイ素を含む、前記[1]〜[3]のいずれかの水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[5]溶媒(C)の沸点が25℃以上250℃未満である、前記[1]〜[4]のいずれかの水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[6]銅元素及び/又は亜鉛元素の含有量が10ppm未満である、前記[1]〜[5]のいずれかの水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[7]水生生物忌避用塗料組成物が複合体(X)を含有し、複合体(X)がビニルアルコール系重合体(A)と無機酸化物(B)とを含有する、前記[1]〜[6]のいずれかの水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
[8]けん化度が65モル%を超え88モル%未満であるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)及び無機酸化物(B)を含有する複合体(X)を有する、水生生物忌避塗膜。
本明細書において、水生生物に対する忌避効果とは、単に水生生物を寄せ付けないという効果だけでなく、水生生物忌避用塗料組成物が水中で徐々に溶出するため、塗料組成物が塗布された水中構造物に対する水生生物の付着を抑制できる効果も含む。
本発明に用いられるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)としては、けん化度が塗料組成物の調製面、分散安定性及び塗布後の性能の面から、65モル%を超え88モル%未満であることが重要であり、無機酸化物(B)と複合体(X)を形成した際に、より長期に亘る徐放性が得られる点から、65モル%を超え85モル%以下が好ましく、65モル%を超え83モル%以下がより好ましい。けん化度が65モル%以下の場合、ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)の水溶性が低すぎて塗料の調製が困難となる場合があり、また水生生物忌避効果が発揮できない等の問題が生じる場合がある。88モル%以上の場合、塗料とした際の分散安定性が低下し、沈殿を生じたり、水生生物忌避効果が発揮できない場合がある。
本発明に用いられる無機酸化物(B)としては、例えば、酸化マグネシウム、酸化カルシウム、酸化バリウム、酸化リン、酸化ホウ素、酸化アルミニウム(アルミナ)及び酸化ケイ素等の粒子が挙げられる。これらのうち、性能面から、酸化アルミニウム又は酸化ケイ素を含むものが好ましく、酸化ケイ素としては、二酸化ケイ素(シリカ)が好ましい。シリカとしては、例えば、非晶質性シリカ(乾式シリカ、湿式シリカ)等が挙げられる。無機酸化物(B)の形状は、例えば、非球状、球状等の形状が挙げられる。非球状の無機酸化物(B)としては、例えば、非球状シリカが挙げられる。非球状シリカは、ケイ酸をゲル化させた三次元形状のコロイド状シリカで、非晶質性であり、且つ、多孔質性の非球状シリカである。非球状シリカは、走査型電子顕微鏡を用いて観察した場合、多孔質シリカであること及び三次元の立体的形状であることが観察でき、平板上ではなく、且つ、球状ではない。
本発明の塗料組成物は、従来より水生生物忌避成分として用いられてきた銅化合物、亜鉛化合物等を実質的に含有しないことが好ましい。すなわち、本発明の塗料組成物に含まれる銅元素及び/又は亜鉛元素の含有量は、環境に対する影響面から、各微少量不純物として含まれる程度であることが好ましく、塗料組成物全体に対して、10ppm未満であることがより好ましく、5ppm未満であることがさらに好ましく、3ppm未満であることが特に好ましい。前記ppmは、質量ppmを意味する。
本発明の趣旨を損なわない範囲で、塗料の安定性向上、pH調整等の面から、界面活性剤、pH調整剤、可塑剤、顔料等を添加しても差し支えない。これらは、1種を単独で使用してもよく、2種以上を併用してもよい。さらに、これらの添加剤を添加しても、添加後の塗料組成物及び水生生物忌避塗膜において、銅元素及び/又は亜鉛元素は、実質的に含有しないことが好ましく、銅元素及び/又は亜鉛元素を含有する場合であっても、環境に対する影響面から、上述した数値範囲内であることがより好ましい。
本発明の塗料組成物の水中構造物への塗布方法に制限はない。スプレー等を用いて噴霧しても、ハケ等を用いての塗布でも構わない。
けん化度80モル%、4%粘度(20℃における4質量%水溶液の粘度)が32mPa・sであるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)5部を室温下、蒸留水95部に加え完全に溶解するまで攪拌し5%ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)水溶液を得た。得られた水溶液に無機酸化物(B)として非球状シリカ(商品名:サイリシア350;平均粒子径3.9μm、富士シリシア化学株式会社製)7.5部を加え室温下10分攪拌し分散させた。得られた分散液を110℃の乾燥機に入れ乾固させた。得られた乾固物を粒子径1000μm以下に粉砕することでビニルアルコール系重合体(A)及び無機酸化物(B)を含有する複合体(X−1)を得た。
上記のようにして得られた複合体(X−1)を水中にて攪拌した。攪拌開始から150rpmで攪拌を継続し、表1に示される各日数の時点において、複合体(X−1)を取り出し、取り出した複合体(X−1)について、以下の方法で水への溶出率を評価した。
複合体(X−1)5gを蒸留水45gに20℃で攪拌分散させ、任意の時間攪拌を継続した後、遠心分離により固体部分と液体部分に分離し、液体部分を乾固させることで、複合体中から蒸留水に溶出したビニルアルコール系重合体(A)の割合を次式により算出した。結果を表1に示す。徐々に溶出率が増加し、水中での攪拌開始から200日後の溶出率は46%であった。
溶出率(%)=(遠心分離後の液体部分に含まれる固形分(g)/複合体(X)に含まれるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)の質量(g))×100
ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)及び無機酸化物(B)の種類、並びに使用量を変えたこと以外は複合体(X−1)と同様にして複合体(X−2)〜(X−11)を得た。複合体(X−10)はビニルアルコール系重合体(A)としてけん化度50モル%のものを用いたがけん化度が低すぎたためか水に溶解せず、粘度を測定することはできなかった。表1から、ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)単独では、けん化度が高すぎると、皮膜にした場合に分子間の水素結合量が多くなったり、結晶性が高いために、ある程度けん化度が低い場合の方が水に溶出しやすいはずである。しかしながら、無機酸化物(B)と複合体(X)を形成することにより、けん化度がある程度低い方が、けん化度が高いものと比較して水への溶出率が低下するという、驚くべき結果を得た。
得られた複合体(X−1)を10部、溶媒(C)として酢酸ブチル100部を用いて常温攪拌下分散させ塗料組成物1を得た。得られた塗料組成物1を船底に塗布し、常温にて溶媒を揮発させ、岡山県玉野港の海水中に浸漬した。浸漬から200日後の水生生物の付着状況を確認したが、付着はほぼ見られなかった。
複合体(X)を溶媒(C)に分散させた塗料組成物は、放置することによっていずれ沈殿を生じ、層分離する。分散安定性は、得られた塗料組成物を常温下で製造直後から10分放置した際に分散質の層と溶媒の層に分離するかを目視確認して評価した。評価基準は以下のようにした。
A:ほぼ層分離なし
B:層の境目が分散液全体の液面高さに対して5割以上8割以下の高さに見受けられる。
C:層の境目が分散液全体の液面高さに対して5割未満の高さに見受けられる。
塗料組成物の分散安定性が悪いことは、塗料として塗布した際のムラに影響し、水生生物の忌避効果に悪影響を与える。
塗料組成物を塗布した船底部分の水生生物の付着具合の200日後の目視による評価基準を以下に示す。
A:付着がほぼ見られない(塗布面の3割未満)
B:塗布面の3割以上5割の面積に付着が見られる
C:塗布面の5割以上8割未満の面積に付着が見られる
D:塗布面のほぼ全ての面積に付着が見られる(塗布面の8割以上)
複合体(X)の種類又は溶媒(C)の種類を変えたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、水生生物忌避用塗料組成物を作製し、評価した。結果を表2に示す。
複合体(X−8)を使用したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして評価したが、無機酸化物(B)が含まれていないため、塗料組成物の分散安定性が低く、水生生物の付着も多かった。なお、複合体(X−8)の水への溶出試験結果(表1)でも溶出が早すぎ、水生生物忌避用塗料組成物として耐久性が低すぎる結果となった。
複合体(X−9)を使用したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして評価したが、ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)のけん化度が高すぎるため、塗料組成物の分散安定性が低く、沈殿を生じやすい結果となり、水生生物の付着も多かった。なお、複合体(X−9)の水への溶出試験結果(表1)でも溶出が早すぎ、水生生物忌避用塗料組成物として耐久性が低すぎる結果となった。
複合体(X−10)を使用したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして評価したが、ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)のけん化度が低すぎるため、塗料組成物の分散安定性が低く、水生生物の付着も多かった。なお、複合体の形成時にビニルアルコール系重合体(A)が水に溶解していなかったため、複合体の形成自体うまく成されていない模様であった。
複合体(X−11)を使用したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして評価したが、ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)のけん化度が高すぎるため、塗料組成物の分散安定性が低く、水生生物の付着も多かった。なお、複合体(X−11)の水への溶出試験結果(表1)でも実施例と比較すると溶出が早く、水生生物忌避用塗料組成物として耐久性が低い結果となった。
Claims (8)
- けん化度が65モル%を超え88モル%未満であるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)、無機酸化物(B)及び溶媒(C)を含有し、
無機酸化物(B)が、酸化マグネシウム、酸化カルシウム、酸化バリウム、酸化リン、酸化ホウ素、酸化アルミニウム(アルミナ)、及び酸化ケイ素からなる群から少なくとも1種であり、
無機酸化物(B)の平均粒子径が、0.10〜100μmであり、
溶媒(C)が、グリセリン、トルエン、キシレン、エチルベンゼン、シクロペンタン、オクタン、ヘプタン、シクロヘキサン、ホワイトスピリット、ジオキサン、テトラヒドロフラン、エチレングリコールモノメチルエーテル、エチレングリコールモノエチルエーテル、エチレングリコールモノブチルエーテル、エチレングリコールジブチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコールモノメチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコールモノエチルエーテル、酢酸ブチル、酢酸プロピル、酢酸ベンジル、エチレングリコールモノメチルエーテルアセテート、エチレングリコールモノエチルエーテルアセテート、エチルイソブチルケトン、メチルイソブチルケトン、n−ブタノール、及びプロピルアルコールからなる群から少なくとも1種である、
水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。 - ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)の20℃における4質量%水溶液粘度が2.5mPa・sを超え150mPa・s未満である、請求項1に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
- ビニルアルコール系重合体(A)と無機酸化物(B)の質量比(A)/(B)が10/90〜90/10である、請求項1又は2に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
- 無機酸化物(B)が酸化アルミニウム又は酸化ケイ素を含む、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
- 溶媒(C)の沸点が25℃以上250℃未満である、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
- 銅元素及び/又は亜鉛元素の含有量が10ppm未満である、請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
- 水生生物忌避用塗料組成物が複合体(X)を含有し、複合体(X)がビニルアルコール系重合体(A)と無機酸化物(B)とを含有する、請求項1〜6のいずれか1項に記載の水生生物忌避用塗料組成物。
- けん化度が65モル%を超え88モル%未満であるビニルアルコール系重合体(A)及び無機酸化物(B)を含有する複合体(X)を有し、
無機酸化物(B)が、酸化マグネシウム、酸化カルシウム、酸化バリウム、酸化リン、酸化ホウ素、酸化アルミニウム(アルミナ)、及び酸化ケイ素からなる群から少なくとも1種であり、
無機酸化物(B)の平均粒子径が、0.10〜100μmである、水生生物忌避塗膜。
